Treball Final de Màster Universitari en Professor/a d'Educació Secundària Obligatòria i Batxillerat, Formació Professional i Ensenyaments d'Idiomes. Codi SAP229.
Premelting-Induced Smoothening of the Ice-Vapor Interface
We perform computer simulations of the quasiliquid layer of ice formed at the
ice-vapor interface close to the ice Ih-liquid-vapor triple point of water. Our
study shows that the two distinct surfaces bounding the film behave at small
wavelengths as atomically rough and independent ice-water and water-vapor
interfaces. For long wavelengths, however, the two surfaces couple, large scale
parallel fluctuations are inhibited, and the ice-vapor interface becomes
smooth. Our results could help explain the complex morphology of ice
crystallites.Comment: postprint plus supplemental material with details on simulation and

Preconditions for the Wealth of Nations over Time: A Note
Military might and political elites’ commercial mindset are two important preconditions that explain nations’ economic income differences. The combination of elites’ economic risk appetite and its bargain power at the national and international arenas sustained by its own military might lead to the array of economic outcomes achieved by nations over time. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed argument fits historical evidence but has not been properly developed by the previous literature
Crystallization and gelation in colloidal systems with short-ranged attractive interactions
We systematically study the relationship between equilibrium and
non-equilibrium phase diagrams of a system of short-ranged attractive colloids.
Using Monte Carlo and Brownian dynamics simulations we find a window of
enhanced crystallization that is limited at high interaction strength by a
slowing down of the dynamics and at low interaction strength by the high
nucleation barrier. We find that the crystallization is enhanced by the
metastable gas-liquid binodal by means of a two-stage crystallization process.
First, the formation of a dense liquid is observed and second the crystal
nucleates within the dense fluid. In addition, we find at low colloid packing
fractions a fluid of clusters, and at higher colloid packing fractions a
percolating network due to an arrested gas-liquid phase separation that we
identify with gelation. We find that this arrest is due to crystallization at
low interaction energy and it is caused by a slowing down of the dynamics at
high interaction strength. Likewise, we observe that the clusters which are
formed at low colloid packing fractions are crystalline at low interaction
energy, but glassy at high interaction energy. The clusters coalesce upon
encounter.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure

Application-layer Performance Analysis of PRIME in Smart Metering Networks
This paper assesses the performance of actual PRIME v1.3.6 and PRIME v1.4 systems when used for Smart Metering applications. The analysis is performed at the application level using the DLMS/COSEM stack. Hence, it considers performance indicators that are of practical interest for distribution system operators, such as the availability and the average time needed to read the energy load profile of all the meters.
To this end, two test networks with 112 smart meters have been deployed in the laboratory (to ensure the stability of the network). In one of them all the Service Nodes communicate directly with the Base Node, while there exist up to 5 switching levels in the other tested network.
First, the PRIME v1.3.6 system is evaluated, stressing the significant performance gain that can be obtained by implementing some MAC layer strategies, which are compatible with the specification but not specifically defined on it. Then, the improvement offered by the PRIME v1.4 system is assessed.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
