El estilo de inserción laboral de las mujeres salvadoreñas: patriarcado, división sexual del trabajo y discriminación

El autor considera que este artículo constituye un esfuerzo por reflexionar sobre el estilo de inserción laboral de las mujeres salvadoreñas. El autor plantea que los dos factores que condicionan tal estilo es, por un lado, la división sexual del trabajo y, por otro, el proceso de desvalorización de la fuerza de trabajo femenina. Estos factores son vistos a partir de tres indicadores: tasa de desempleo, participación laboral de las mujeres y brechas salariales

Efficient graph-based genetic programming representation with multiple outputs

In this work, we explore and study the implication of having more than one output on a genetic programming (GP) graph-representation. This approach, called multiple interactive outputs in a single tree (MIOST), is based on two ideas. First, we defined an approach, called interactivity within an individual (IWI), which is based on a graph-GP representation. Second, we add to the individuals created with the IWI approach multiple outputs in their structures and as a result of this, we have MIOST. As a first step, we analyze the effects of IWI by using only mutations and analyze its implications (i.e., presence of neutrality). Then, we continue testing the effectiveness of IWI by allowing mutations and the standard GP crossover in the evolutionary process. Finally, we tested the effectiveness of MIOST by using mutations and crossover and conducted extensive empirical results on different evolvable problems of different complexity taken from the literature. The results reported in this paper indicate that the proposed approach has a better overall performance in terms of consistency reaching feasible solutions

Tendencias co-integradoras entre los mercados de capital de los países miembros de NAFTA

Las recientes políticas de liberalización económica y financiera han incrementado la internacionalización de los mercados emergentes. Una atrevida estrategia implementada por México constituye el Tratado de Libre Comercio de los Países de Norte América (TLCAN, NAFTA por sus siglas en inglés). Además de incrementos en el comercio y en las inversiones, este tratado debería haber fortalecido los vínculos entre le mercados accionarios de Canadá, Estados Unidos y México. El presente estudio analiza la “primera generation” de integración entre dichos mercados aplicando la técnica de cointegración de Johansen. También examina la integración entre los mercados del NAFTA y el mercado de capitales mundial. La evidencia empírica sugiere un proceso de integración cambiante en el tiempo entre los mercados accionarios de los socios del NAFTA. La integración de los mercados de capital del NAFTA con el mercado de capitales mundial evidencia una segmentación moderada y también cambiante en el tiempo.____________________________________________Recent economic and financial liberalization policies have increased the internationalization of emerging markets. A daring strategy undertaken by Mexico constituted the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA); in addition to increased trade and investments, it should have led to stronger links among the equity markets from Canada, United States and Mexico. Experimental designs for controlling the correlation of estimators in two parameter models

The state of the art related to parameter correlation in two-parameter models has been reviewed in this paper. The apparent contradictions between the different authors regarding the ability of D--optimality to simultaneously reduce the correlation and the area of the confidence ellipse in two-parameter models were analyzed. Two main approaches were found: 1) those who consider that the optimality criteria simultaneously control the precision and correlation of the parameter estimators; and 2) those that consider a combination of criteria to achieve the same objective. An analytical criterion combining in its structure both the optimality of the precision of the estimators of the parameters and the reduction of the correlation between their estimators is provided. The criterion was tested both in a simple linear regression model, considering all possible design spaces, and in a non-linear model with strong correlation of the estimators of the parameters (Michaelis--Menten) to show its performance. This criterion showed a superior behavior to all the strategies and criteria to control at the same time the precision and the correlation.Comment: 30 pages, 8 figures, 5 table

PAMP-triggered immunity against Pseudomonas syringae involves microRNA-mediated regulation of several uncharacterized R genes

Two main types of noncoding small RNA molecules have been found in plants: microRNAs (miRNAs) and small interfering RNAs (siRNAs). They differ in their biogenesis and mode of action, but share similar sizes (20-24 nt). Their precursors are processed by Dicer-Like RNase III (dcl) proteins present in Arabidopsis thaliana, and in their mature form can act as negative regulators of gene expression, being involved in a vast array of plant processes, including plant development, genomic integrity or response to stress. Small-RNA mediated regulation can occurs at transcriptional level (TGS) or at post-transcriptional level (PTGS). In recent years, the role of gene silencing in the regulation of expression of genes related to plant defence responses against bacterial pathogens is becoming clearer. Comparisons carried out in our lab between the expression profiles of different mutants affected in gene silencing, and plants challenged with Pseudomonas syringae pathovar tomato DC3000, led us to identify a set of uncharacterized R genes, belonging to the TIR-NBS-LRR gene family, differentially expressed in these conditions. Through the use of bioinformatics tools, we found a miRNA* of 22 nt putatively responsible for down-regulating expression of these R genes through the generation of siRNAs. We have also found that the corresponding pri-miRNA is down-regulated after PAMP-perception in a SA-dependent manner. We also demonstrate that plants with altered levels of miRNA* (knockdown lines or overexpression lines) exhibit altered PTI-associated phenotypes, suggesting a role for this miRNA* in this defence response against bacteria.
