Der subversive Schelm : Bertolt Brechts "Schwejk im Zweiten Weltkrieg"

Das Exil in Zeiten des Faschismus macht notwendig erfinderisch. Bertolt Brechts Exilwerk ist geprägt durch Strategien und Techniken der Identitätssicherung durch Satire, Witz, Gewitztheit. Die subversive Kraft des Schelmischen, wie es im Werk Bachtins theoretisch produktiv gemacht wurde, zeigt sich in nahezu allen Texten Brechts aus jenen Jahren. Sein Stück "Schwejk im Zweiten Weltkrieg", Resultat einer langjährigen Auseinandersetzung mit Hašeks Werk, lässt wie in einem Brennspiegel erkennen, wie Brecht literarische Tradition aktualisiert und als Erfolg versprechende Form des literarischen Widerstands einsetzt. Identität wird hier durch die Ambivalenz des Schelmischen gesichert, ohne dabei permanente Gefährdung dieser Identität zu verschweigen

Das Nibelungenlied gilt inoffiziell als das Nationalepos des Deutschen Volkes. Kein Wunder also das der Nibelungenstoff bereits mehrmals als Vorlage für einen Film herhalten musste. Aber auch in der Kunst und Kultur haben die Nibelungen Einzug gehalten. Man findet sie überall, in Bühnenstücken, Musicals, Opern, Comicbüchern und dergleichen. Die Nibelungen sind ein interessantes, aber auch komplexes Thema. Der erste Nibelungenfilm der hier analysiert wird stammte von dem, Regisseur Fritz Lang und wurde im ersten Viertel des vorigen Jahrhunderts produziert.Seine Ehefrau Thea von Harbou schrieb das Drehbuch wobei sie sich sehr freizügig am nordischen Sagenkreis der Nibelungen bediente. Langs Produktion ist „deutschnational“ geprägt denn nach der Niederlage im Ersten Weltkrieg sollte die technisch äußerst aufwendige Produktion dem bürgerlichen Deutschland wieder einen Hauch von „gesunden Patriotismus“ vermitteln. In den sechziger Jahren war es der Regisseur Harald Reinl der ein Remake der Nibelungen in Angriff nahm. Produziert wurde der Film von Artur Brauner und seinem CCC Studio.Reinl – ein Schüler von Leni Riefenstahl – hält sich im Großen und Ganzen mehr an das Bühnenstück von Hebbel als an das mittelhochdeutsche Nibelungenlied, dennoch ist er es, der sich am ehesten an die Originalvorlage hält.Ulrich Edel ist der dritte Regisseur der eine Verfilmung wagte. Bei Edel zählt allem Anschein nach zählt nach nur Faktor Unterhaltung und eine actionreiche Umsetzung. Er steifte zwar etwas an der Wagner’schen Oper, doch das ist auch schon alles was der Film mit dem Nibelungenlied gemein hat

A cosmopolitan temptation

For some, the transnationalization of political action and communicative space in the European Union heralds an emergent cosmopolitan order. Need that be so? There are supranational institutions in the EU as well as transnational political and cultural spaces and cross-border communicative flows. However, the Union's member states remain key controllers of citizenship rights and purveyors of collective identities. And for many purposes they still maintain strongly bounded national public spheres. Because the EU's overall character as a polity remains unresolved, this has consequences for the organization of communicative spaces. Synthesis and Characterization of Ceramide-Containing Liposomes as Membrane Models for Different T Cell Subpopulations

A fine balance of regulatory (Treg) and conventional CD4+ T cells (Tconv) is required to prevent harmful immune responses, while at the same time ensuring the development of protective immunity against pathogens. As for many cellular processes, sphingolipid metabolism also crucially modulates the Treg/Tconv balance. However, our understanding of how sphingolipid metabolism is involved in T cell biology is still evolving and a better characterization of the tools at hand is required to advance the field. Therefore, we established a reductionist liposomal membrane model system to imitate the plasma membrane of mouse Treg and Tconv with regards to their ceramide content. We found that the capacity of membranes to incorporate externally added azide-functionalized ceramide positively correlated with the ceramide content of the liposomes. Moreover, we studied the impact of the different liposomal preparations on primary mouse splenocytes in vitro. The addition of liposomes to resting, but not activated, splenocytes maintained viability with liposomes containing high amounts of C16-ceramide being most efficient. Our data thus suggest that differences in ceramide post-incorporation into Treg and Tconv reflect differences in the ceramide content of cellular membranes

Interlaboratory evaluation of a digital holographic microscopy–based assay for label-free in vitro cytotoxicity testing of polymeric nanocarriers

State-of-the-art in vitro test systems for nanomaterial toxicity assessment are based on dyes and several staining steps which can be affected by nanomaterial interference. Digital holographic microscopy (DHM), an interferometry-based variant of quantitative phase imaging (QPI), facilitates reliable proliferation quantification of native cell populations and the extraction of morphological features in a fast and label- and interference-free manner by biophysical parameters. DHM therefore has been identified as versatile tool for cytotoxicity testing in biomedical nanotechnology. In a comparative study performed at two collaborating laboratories, we investigated the interlaboratory variability and performance of DHM in nanomaterial toxicity testing, utilizing complementary standard operating procedures (SOPs). Two identical custom-built off-axis DHM systems, developed for usage in biomedical laboratories, equipped with stage-top incubation chambers were applied at different locations in Europe. Temporal dry mass development, 12-h dry mass increments and morphology changes of A549 human lung epithelial cell populations upon incubation with two variants of poly(alkyl cyanoacrylate) (PACA) nanoparticles were observed in comparison to digitonin and cell culture medium controls. Digitonin as cytotoxicity control, as well as empty and cabazitaxel-loaded PACA nanocarriers, similarly impacted 12-h dry mass development and increments as well as morphology of A549 cells at both participating laboratories. The obtained DHM data reflected the cytotoxic potential of the tested nanomaterials and are in agreement with corresponding literature on biophysical and chemical assays. Our results confirm DHM as label-free cytotoxicity assay for polymeric nanocarriers as well as the repeatability and reproducibility of the technology. In summary, the evaluated DHM assay could be efficiently implemented at different locations and facilitates interlaboratory in vitro toxicity testing of nanoparticles with prospects for application in regulatory science.publishedVersio

Die aktuelle Konjunktur exzentrischen Erzählens im gegenwärtigen Kino ist längst nicht mehr bloß die Illustration einer condition postmoderne, sie verweist vielmehr auf die Hybridisierung von Erzählung und Spiel im digitalen Medienumbruch. Insbesondere im massenattraktiven Spielfilm stehen nicht mehr die selten gewordenen Identifikationsofferten im Zentrum des Interesses und die Zuschauer sorgen sich auch nicht um Interpretationshypothesen, sondern sie finden Vergnügen an Erzählrätseln und verfolgen neugierig das Spiel mit unterschiedlichen Plotvarianten oder paradoxalen Welten. In den Beiträgen dieses Bandes werden Formen dieser Hybridisierung exemplarisch aufgeschlüsselt und genealogisch nachvollzogen
