    THE EFFECT OF STUDENT MOBILITY ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

    Student mobility and its relationship to academic success have been researched since World War II with varied findings (Goebel, 1978). Establishing the relationship between mobility and achievement is difficult due to the fact that mobility is related to many factors. Mobility has been found to be prevalent among students who traditionally demonstrate achievement gaps (specifically students of low-income status) (Long, 1992; Smith, Fien & Paine, 2008). Mobility’s relationship to achievement is complex. Led by a single definition of mobility, admittance to more than one school in the given district over the period of one academic year, this research study sought to determine the effect of mobility on academic achievement. Specifically, the research focused on mobility’s effect on students classified as low-income and the effect of school mobility level on academic achievement of its students. This study used a quantitative design; student records were obtained for mobility data, and criterion referenced test scores in mathematics and language arts were utilized to measure academic achievement. Findings revealed that mobile students performed below non-mobile students, low-income status affected mobile students negatively, and mobility level of the school attended had a negative effect on the academic achievement of its students

    PEMBUATAN PUPUK ORGANIK CAIR DARI LIMBAH CAIR KELAPA SAWIT MENGGUNAKAN PROSES FERMENTASI DENGAN PENAMBAHAN ABU TANDAN KOSONG DAN FIBER

    Pupuk organik cair adalah pupuk yang berasal dari hewan atau tumbuhan yang difermentasi dan bentuk produknya berupa cairan. Pupuk organik cair mengandung unsur hara makro seperti, fosfor, nitrogen, kalium, karbon dan unsur hara mikro lainnya yang dibutuhkan oleh tanaman serta dapat memperbaiki unsur hara dalam tanah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menganalisa kualitas unsur hara makro dalam pupuk organik cair dari limbah cair pabrik kelapa sawit dengan penambahan abu tandan kosong dan fiber. Pembuatan pupuk organik cair ini dilakukan melalui proses fermentasi. Dalam hal ini digunakan bioaktivator Effective Microorganisme (EM4) dan penggunaan tiga variasi bahan untuk mengetahui kualitas unsur hara makro yang terbaik untuk pupuk organik cair. Variasi bahan yang ditambahkan ke dalam 1 liter limbah cair pabrik kelapa sawit berupa EM4, abu tandan kosong, dan fiber yaitu 40 ml : 50 gr : 10 gr, 50 ml : 100 gr : 15 gr dan 60 ml : 150 gr : 20 gr. Kemudian difermentasikan selama 7, 10 dan 13 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kandungan N, P, K dan C yang terbaik pada pupuk organik cair ini adalah pada waktu fermentasi 13 hari dengan variasi bahan 60 ml : 150 gr : 20 gr yaitu untuk nitrogen (N) 0,78%, phospor (P2O5) 0,65%, kalium (K2O) 0,35% dan karbon (COrganik) 10,2 %.Kata kunci: Pupuk Organik Cair, Limbah Cair Pabrik Kelapa Sawit, Nitrogen, Fosfor, Kalium dan Karbo

    MAKING BRIQUETTES FROM WASTE OF COCONUT SHELL AND PEANUT SHELL

    Aims: This study aimed to increase the utilization of biomass-derived from the waste of coconut and peanut shells by making them as briquettes, as an alternative to fuel. The scarcity of petroleum because of its increasingly limited existence encourages all parties to take part in the development and discovery of new alternative energies. This is expected to overcome one of the most important of the many problems facing this country. The method used in this research is to start with a literature study of materials from various sources about the benefits and manufacturing of briquettes from biomass waste as an alternative energy source to be further tested for quality.  This involves a heat test, water content test, ash content test and determination of the flying matter. Results: The test results showed that natural gas emissions were below threshold, namely 0-30 ppm CO, 0-3.6 ppm H2S, and undetectable NOx. After evaluation, the results showed that with the addition of 30% of the biomass, the ignition time was reduced and the remaining unburned briquettes or bottom ash was reduced by 68.68%. Conclusion, significance, and impact of study: The results help the community and the parties involved related to appropriate bio briquettes technology. It also eventually becomes one of the solutions to assist the government in solving problems related to alternative fuels to petroleum

    Background of this research is the importance of study on the Madden Julian Oscillation, the dominant oscillation in the equator area. MJO cycle showed by cloud cluster growing in the Indian Ocean then moved to the east and form a cycle with a range of 40-50 days and the coverage area from 10N-10S. Method that used to predict RMM is Box-Jenkins based on ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average) statistical analysis. The data used RMM daily data period 1 Maret 1979–1 Maret 2009 (30 years). RMM1 and RMM2 is an index for monitoring MJO. This is based on two empirical orthogonal functions (EOFs) from the combined average zonal 850hPa wind, 200hPa zonal wind, and satellite-observed Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR) data. The results in form of the Power Spectral Density (PSD) graph Real Time Multivariate MJO (RMM) and long wave radiation (OLR = Outgoing Longwave Radiation) at the position 100° BT, 120° BT, and 140°BT that show the wave pattern (spectrum pattern) and clearly shows the oscillation periods. There is a close relation between RMM1 with OLR at the position 100oBT that characterized the PSD value about 45 day. Through Box-Jenkins method, the prediction model that close to time series data of RMM1 and RMM2 is ARIMA (2,1,2), that mean the forecasts of RMM data for the future depending on one time previously and the error one time before. Prediction model for Zt = Zt = 1,681 Zt-1 – 0,722 Zt-2 - 0,02 at-1 - 0,05 at-2.. Prediction model for RMM2 is Zt = 1,714 Zt-1 – 0,764 Zt-2 - 0,109 at-1 - 0,05 at-2.. The flood case in Jakarta January-February 1996 and 2002 are one of real evidence that made the MJO prediction important. MJO with active phase dominant cover almost the entire Indonesia west area at that moment

    This research aims to analyze different interest of student’s entrepreneurship in which the learning uses role playing examples and non-examples methods. The method used was unreal experiment by giving treatment in two different classes, one class used role playing method and others used examples non examples method by paying attention to parents’ job background.  The design used was 2 x 2 and the analysis of data used variant factorial design with two lines. The results of the research shows that hypothesis-1, 2,5, and 7, that all have entrepreneur interest while hypothesis 3 has no interaction between learning method with parents’ job background, and the hypothesis of the 4th and the 6th that there was no entrepreneur interest on students.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perbedaan minat berwirausaha siswa yang pembelajarannya menggunakan role playing dan metode examples non examples. Metode yang digunakan yaitu eksperimen semu dengan memberikan perlakuan pada dua kelas yang berbeda, satu kelas menggunakan pembelajaran role playing dan satu kelas lainnya menggunakan examples non examples dengan memperhatikan latar belakang pekerjaan orang tua.  Rancangan yang digunakan yaitu 2 x 2 dan analisis data menggunakan varian dua jalur dengan desain faktorial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis ke-1,2,5, dan 7 semua ada perbedaan minat berwirausaha sedangkan hipotesis ke-3 tidak ada interaksi antara metode pembelajaran dengan latar belakang pekerjaan orang tua, dan hipotesis ke-4 dan ke-6 bahwa tidak ada perbedaan minat berwirausaha siswa.Kata kunci:      pembelajaran role playing, pembelajaran examples non examples, latar belakang pekerjaan orang tua, minat berwirausah
