Anisotropic Hubble expansion of large scale structures
We investigate the dynamics of an homogenous distribution of galaxies moving
under the cosmological expansion through Euler-Poisson equations system. The
solutions are interpreted with the aim of understanding the cosmic velocity
fields in the Local Super Cluster, and in particular the presence of a bulk
flow. Among several solutions, we shows a planar kinematics with constant

Structure and Sequence of the Sex Determining Locus in Two Wild Populations of Nile Tilapia
In domesticated strains of the Nile tilapia, phenotypic sex has been linked to genetic variants on linkage groups 1, 20 and 23. This diversity of sex-loci might reflect a naturally polymorphic sex determination system in Nile tilapia, or it might be an artefact arising from the process of domestication. Here, we searched for sex-determiners in wild populations from Kpandu, Lake Volta (Ghana-West Africa), and from Lake Koka (Ethiopia-East Africa) that have not been subjected to any genetic manipulation. We analysed lab-reared families using double-digest Restriction Associated DNA sequencing (ddRAD) and analysed wild-caught males and females with pooled whole-genome sequencing (WGS). Strong sex-linked signals were found on LG23 in both populations, and sex-linked signals with LG3 were observed in Kpandu samples. WGS uncovered blocks of high sequence coverage, suggesting the presence of B chromosomes. We confirmed the existence of a tandem amh duplication in LG23 in both populations and determined its breakpoints between the oaz1 and dot1l genes. We found two common deletions of ~5 kb in males and confirmed the presence of both amhY and amh∆Y genes. Males from Lake Koka lack both the previously reported 234 bp deletion and the 5 bp frameshift-insertion that creates a premature stop codon in amh∆Y
Background Light in Potential Sites for the ANTARES Undersea Neutrino Telescope
The ANTARES collaboration has performed a series of {\em in situ}
measurements to study the background light for a planned undersea neutrino
telescope. Such background can be caused by K decays or by biological
activity. We report on measurements at two sites in the Mediterranean Sea at
depths of 2400~m and 2700~m, respectively. Three photomultiplier tubes were
used to measure single counting rates and coincidence rates for pairs of tubes
at various distances. The background rate is seen to consist of three
components: a constant rate due to K decays, a continuum rate that
varies on a time scale of several hours simultaneously over distances up to at
least 40~m, and random bursts a few seconds long that are only correlated in
time over distances of the order of a meter. A trigger requiring coincidences
between nearby photomultiplier tubes should reduce the trigger rate for a
neutrino telescope to a manageable level with only a small loss in efficiency.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in Astroparticle

The Spectrum of Acute Cerebrovascular Disease in Patients with COVID-19
Copyright: © 2022 by the authors. (1) Background: COVID-19 infection is responsible for the ongoing pandemic and acute cerebrovascular disease (CVD) has been observed in COVID-19 patients. (2) Methods: We conducted a retrospective, observational study of hospitalized adult patients admitted to our hospital with SARS-CoV-2 and acute cerebrovascular disease. All clinical data were reviewed including epidemiology, clinical features, laboratory data, neuroradiological findings, hospital management and course from 32 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 management with acute cerebrovascular disease. (3) Results: Acute CVD with COVID-19 was associated with higher NIH stroke scale on discharge compared to non-COVID-19 CVDs. Seizures complicated the hospital course in 16% of COVID-19 patients with CVD. The majority of the acute CVDs were ischemic (81%) in nature followed by hemorrhagic (22%). Acute CVD with COVID-19 resulted in average hospital stays greater than twice that of the control group (13 days in COVID-19, 5 days in control). Acute CVD with COVID-19 patients had worse clinical outcomes with 31% patient deaths and 6% discharged to hospice. In the control group, 6% of patients died. (4) Conclusions: Acute CVD associated with COVID-19 tends to be more complicated with unique and adverse clinical phenotype, longer hospital admissions, and worse clinical outcomes.Royal Society Wolfson Fellowshi
Sedimentation and Fouling of Optical Surfaces at the ANTARES Site
ANTARES is a project leading towards the construction and deployment of a
neutrino telescope in the deep Mediterranean Sea. The telescope will use an
array of photomultiplier tubes to detect the Cherenkov light emitted by muons
resulting from the interaction with matter of high energy neutrinos. In the
vicinity of the deployment site the ANTARES collaboration has performed a
series of in-situ measurements to study the change in light transmission
through glass surfaces during immersions of several months. The average loss of
light transmission is estimated to be only ~2% at the equator of a glass sphere
one year after deployment. It decreases with increasing zenith angle, and tends
to saturate with time. The transmission loss, therefore, is expected to remain
small for the several year lifetime of the ANTARES detector whose optical
modules are oriented downwards. The measurements were complemented by the
analysis of the ^{210}Pb activity profile in sediment cores and the study of
biofouling on glass plates. Despite a significant sedimentation rate at the
site, in the 0.02 - 0.05 cm.yr^{-1} range, the sediments adhere loosely to the
glass surfaces and can be washed off by water currents. Further, fouling by
deposits of light-absorbing particulates is only significant for surfaces
