    [Resumen] La Tesis doctoral tiene por objeto el análisis del contrato de gestión naval, también denominado contrato de gerencia de buques. La importancia de este contrato en el ámbito marítimo se ve reflejada en el derecho de los formularios, de tal forma que existe en el mercado un acuerdo tipo, denominado Ship Management agreement, que ha sido tomado como referencia por la nueva Ley de Navegación Marítima, el cual ha sido analizado en el trabajo de investigación. En este estudio se han analizado el concepto, los elementos y características principales de este contrato para determinar su naturaleza y régimen jurídico aplicable y asimismo se ha procedido al análisis de las figuras contractuales afines para determinar su posible encaje en cada uno de ellas

    Differential expression of versican isoforms is a component of the human melanoma cell differentiation process

    AbstractVersican is a large chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan produced by human melanoma cell lines and malignant melanocytic lesions. In the present work, we have analyzed the expression of versican spliced variants V0, V1, V2 and V3 in human melanoma cell lines at several differentiation degrees. The isoform expression pattern depends on the degree of cell differentiation. Differentiated cell lines do not produce any of the versican isoforms as analyzed by Western blot, Northern blot and RT-PCR. All cell lines with an early or intermediate degree of differentiation (AX3, SK-mel-37, Rider, SK-mel-1.36-1–5 and SK-mel-3.44) expressed V0 and V1 transcripts, whereas V2 and V3 expression was shown only by the undifferentiated cell lines SK-mel-1.36-1–5 and Rider. Furthermore, we have analyzed the expression of versican isoforms in SK-mel-3.44 and SK-mel-1.36-1–5 cells induced to differentiate by TPA treatment. The expression of the large V0, V1 and V2 isoforms practically disappears in differentiated cells, whereas V3 remains detectable by RT-PCR analysis

    Validation of Self-Quantification Xiaomi Band in a Clinical Sleep Unit

    [Abstract] Polysomnography (PSG) is currently the accepted gold standard for sleep studies, as it measures multiple variables that lead to a clear diagnosis of any sleep disorder. However, it has some clear drawbacks, since it can only be performed by qualified technicians, has a high cost and complexity and is very invasive. In the last years, actigraphy has been used along PSG for sleep studies. In this study, we intend to assess the capability of the new Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 to be used as an actigraphy tool. Sleep measures from PSG and Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 recorded in the same night will be obtained and further analysed to assess their concordance. For this analysis, we perform a paired sample t-test to compare the different measures, Bland–Altman plots to evaluate the level of agreement between the Mi Band and PSG and Epoch by Epoch analysis to study the ability of the Mi Band to correctly identify PSG-defined sleep stages.     Above-ground biomass estimation of arable crops using UAV-based SfM photogrammetry

This study proposes a methodology for estimating herbaceous crop biomass using conventional optical cameras and structure from motion (SfM) photogrammetry. The proposed method is based on the determination of volumes according to the difference between a digital terrain model (DTM) and digital surface model (DSM) of vegetative cover. A density factor was calibrated based on a subset of destructive random samples to relate the volume and biomass and efficiently quantify the total AGB. In all cases, RMSE Z values less than 0.23 m were obtained for the DTMDSM coupling. Biomass field data confirmed the goodness of fit of the yieldbiomass estimation (R2=0,88 and 1,12 kg/ha) mainly in plots with uniform vegetation coverage.     Plant survival monitoring with UAVs and multispectral data in difficult access afforested areas

Previous survival analyses have been based on the direct observation of each individual plant in the field, which entails considerable effort and costs. This study provides a low-cost method to discriminate between live and dead plants in afforestations that can efficiently replace traditional field inspections through the use of UAVs equipped with RGB and NIR sensors. The method combines the use of a conventional camera with an identical camera modified to record the NIR channel. Survival analysis was performed with digital image processing techniques based on calculated indices associated with plant vigour and PCA-based decorrelation. The method yielded results with high global accuracy rates (~96.2%) with a minimum percentage of doubtful plants, even in young plantations (seedlings < 30 cm tall).     Clinical Heterogeneity of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Associated With Variants in TBX4

    Background: The knowledge of hereditary predisposition has changed our understanding of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. Genetic testing has been widely extended and the application of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension specific gene panels has allowed its inclusion in the diagnostic workup and increase the diagnostic ratio compared to the traditional sequencing techniques. This is particularly important in the differential diagnosis between Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and Pulmonary Venoocclusive Disease. Methods: Since November 2011, genetic testing is offered to all patients with idiopathic, hereditable and associated forms of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension or Pulmonary Venoocclusive Disease included in the Spanish Registry of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. Herein, we present the clinical phenotype and prognosis of all Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension patients with disease-associated variants in TBX4. Results: Out of 579 adults and 45 children, we found in eight patients from seven families, disease-causing associated variants in TBX4. All adult patients had a moderate-severe reduction in diffusion capacity. However, we observed a wide spectrum of clinical presentations, including Pulmonary Venoocclusive Disease suspicion, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary vascular abnormalities and congenital heart disease. Conclusions: Genetic testing is now essential for a correct diagnosis work-up in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. TBX4-associated Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension has marked clinical heterogeneity.     Dissecting the Shared Genetic Architecture of Suicide Attempt, Psychiatric Disorders, and Known Risk Factors

    Background Suicide is a leading cause of death worldwide, and nonfatal suicide attempts, which occur far more frequently, are a major source of disability and social and economic burden. Both have substantial genetic etiology, which is partially shared and partially distinct from that of related psychiatric disorders. Methods We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 29,782 suicide attempt (SA) cases and 519,961 controls in the International Suicide Genetics Consortium (ISGC). The GWAS of SA was conditioned on psychiatric disorders using GWAS summary statistics via multitrait-based conditional and joint analysis, to remove genetic effects on SA mediated by psychiatric disorders. We investigated the shared and divergent genetic architectures of SA, psychiatric disorders, and other known risk factors. Results Two loci reached genome-wide significance for SA: the major histocompatibility complex and an intergenic locus on chromosome 7, the latter of which remained associated with SA after conditioning on psychiatric disorders and replicated in an independent cohort from the Million Veteran Program. This locus has been implicated in risk-taking behavior, smoking, and insomnia. SA showed strong genetic correlation with psychiatric disorders, particularly major depression, and also with smoking, pain, risk-taking behavior, sleep disturbances, lower educational attainment, reproductive traits, lower socioeconomic status, and poorer general health. After conditioning on psychiatric disorders, the genetic correlations between SA and psychiatric disorders decreased, whereas those with nonpsychiatric traits remained largely unchanged. Conclusions Our results identify a risk locus that contributes more strongly to SA than other phenotypes and suggest a shared underlying biology between SA and known risk factors that is not mediated by psychiatric disorders.Peer reviewe

    Mechanistic and Biomarker Studies to Demonstrate Immune Tolerance in Multiple Sclerosis

    The induction of specific immunological tolerance represents an important therapeutic goal for multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune diseases. Sound knowledge of the target antigens, the underlying pathomechanisms of the disease and the presumed mechanisms of action of the respective tolerance-inducing approach are essential for successful translation. Furthermore, suitable tools and assays to evaluate the induction of immune tolerance are key aspects for the development of such treatments. However, investigation of the mechanisms of action underlying tolerance induction poses several challenges. The optimization of sensitive, robust methods which allow the assessment of low frequency autoreactive T cells and the long-term reduction or change of their responses, the detection of regulatory cell populations and their immune mediators, as well as the validation of specific biomarkers indicating reduction of inflammation and damage, are needed to develop tolerance-inducing approaches successfully to patients.
