Human rights education in higher education : an analysis of the social commitment of the public university under the perspective of the production and dissemination of knowledge

A partir deste cenário, tratados internacionais e documentos nacionais passaram a ser ratificados pelo Estado brasileiro de forma a positivar os direitos humanos. No entanto, ainda que estes sejam garantidos tanto no âmbito interno quanto externo, os direitos humanos não ganharam existência real para grande número de pessoas, assim como não são de conhecimento geral da população. É no bojo deste debate que a Educação em Direitos Humanos (EDH) fundamenta-se através da transmissão de valores e conhecimentos para a transformação e o cultivo de uma cultura pautada nos direitos humanos. Dessa forma, a presente pesquisa objetiva identificar e analisar a produção e disseminação de conhecimentos acerca da Educação em Direitos Humanos na Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp) através dos Projetos de Pesquisa e Práticas Extensionistas desenvolvidas no período de 2006 a 2017. Para tanto, pretendeu-se aprofundar o debate acerca do compromisso social da universidade pública como potencializadora de uma cultura em Direitos Humanos, bem como compreender o processo histórico que perpassa a EDH no Brasil e na América Latina. A presente pesquisa possui caráter exploratório e uma abordagem quali-quantitativa, sendo desenvolvida através de pesquisas bibliográficas, pesquisa documental e aplicação de questionários. Como resultados, verificou-se que a Universidade estudada, apresenta produções e práticas extensionistas relativas aos direitos humanos e à EDH, estando mais presentes no âmbito das Ciências Humanas e Ciências Sociais Aplicadas. Assim, segundo os estudos realizados, verificou-se que não há o reconhecimento da EDH enquanto conteúdo transversal às diversas áreas do conhecimento. Para além disso, desafios e entraves se colocam à frente da educação em direitos humanos, demandando políticas institucionais de apoio à realização dessas atividadesAbstract: The discussion about human rights gained force from the recognition of violations committed during World War II. From this scenario, international treaties and national documents were signed by the Brazilian State in order to promote human rights. However, although these are guaranteed both internally and externally, human rights have not gained real existence for large numbers of people, not being known by the population. It is in the heart of this debate that Human Rights Education (HRE) which is based on the transmission of values and knowledge for the transformation and cultivation of a culture based on human rights. Thus, the present research aims to identify and analyze the production and dissemination of knowledge about Human Rights Education at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) through the Research Projects and Extension Practices developed from 2006 to 2017. For this purpose, to deepen the debate about the social commitment of the public university as a potential of a culture in Human Rights, as well as to understand the historical process that runs through the HRE in Brazil and Latin America. The present research has an exploratory character and a qualitative-quantitative approach, were being developed through bibliographical research, documentary research and application of questionnaires. As results, it was verified that the University studied presents extensions and practices related to human rights and HRE, being present in the scope of Human Sciences and Applied Social Sciences. Thus, according to the studies carried out, it was verified that there is no recognition of EDH as a content that is transversal to the different areas of knowledge. Velho reflects on the achievements of the national and Latin American community in the field of CTS, as well as how it influences public policymaking. It also deals with the relationship between this community and international networks. A EDUCAÇÃO EM DIREITOS HUMANOS DIANTE DA ASCENSÃO DO “NOVO FASCISMO”

Este artigo busca apresentar fundamentos teóricos acerca da importância atribuída à Educação em Direitos Humanos (EDH) à luz das ondas conservadoras e fascistas que permeiam a democracia moderna. Metodologicamente, o trabalho foi desenvolvido através de uma revisão bibliográfica da literatura científica sobre a temática dos direitos humanos fundamentais e da “nova onda fascista”, bem como da análise de documentos oficiais do Governo Federal que tratam especificamente sobre a EDH, buscando compreender como o ensino superior, mais precisamente a universidade pública, se insere dentro desta temática. Visualiza-se que, apesar desta prática educativa constituir-se enquanto alternativa local para o enfrentamento do “novo fascismo”, a incorporação desta deve ser fomentada com vistas à uma transformação cultural pautada nos princípios relativos aos direitos humanos fundamentais. É claro que, para que sua incorporação seja concretizada, é necessário considerar alguns desafios, os quais são apresentados no decorrer deste artigo

The importance of ISO management system standards in a scenario of profound changes caused by the Covid-19 pandemic to Brazilian companies

Goal: The aim of this viewpoint is characterized by emphasizing the importance of the management standards of the International Organization for Standardization as an information base for improvements to Brazilian managers in a scenario of profound changes caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Design / Methodology / Approach: Initially, a brief bibliographic research was carried out to base some information presented in the text. Later, the authors of this viewpoint discussed their ideas and established the reflections presented here, many of them based on their experiences and the Brazilian context. Finally, the final considerations were established. Results: The main reflections are directed in the sense that most Brazilian companies have felt harshly the consequences of the economic crisis resulting from the pandemic of Covid-19 and, in some way, they need to rethink some of their administrative practices. In this scenario of profound organizational changes, we believe that the management standards of the International Organization for Standardization can be characterized as an important knowledge base, since they present information of high credibility, widely debated by experts and that are easily accessible to Brazilian managers in different themes. Limitations of the investigation: Since it is a viewpoint, part of the information presented here are the perceptions and considerations of the authors. Practical implications: This viewpoint shows that the standards of the International Organization for Standardization can be used as an important tool for management systems focused on innovation and employee skills management. Originality / Value: We hope with this viewpoint to advocate for ISO management standards as important instruments of continuous improvement in a scenario of many organizational changes for Brazilian companies

Transporte público e mobilidade urbana: Determinantes do preço da tarifa de transporte público urbano por ônibus - um estudo do caso de Limeira/SP

Este estudo buscou analisar a questão da mobilidade urbana, a partir dos determinantes do preço da tarifa de transporte público urbano (TPU) por ônibus, tendo como estudo de caso o município de Limeira/SP. Metodologicamente, foram realizadas revisão bibliográfica e pesquisa documental do tema proposto. Como resultados, verificou-se que, no caso brasileiro, a prestação do serviço de TPU por ônibus ocorre de forma indireta, por meio de concessão para a iniciativa privada. No modelo de financiamento do sistema, o usuário pagante costuma arcar com o valor de uma tarifa que é acrescida pelo ônus dos usuários não pagantes. A metodologia para o cálculo do preço da tarifa varia entre os municípios, dado que não há regulamentação para o uso de um modelo padrão. Dessa forma, foram levantadas as metodologias mais recorrentes na literatura, com especial atenção à metodologia de cálculo do Grupo de Estudos para Integração da Política de Transportes (GEIPOT), devido a sua utilização no município de Limeira/SP. Os determinantes do preço da tarifa de TPU por ônibus identificados foram: custos operacionais, subsídios extra-tarifários, gratuidades e benefícios aos usuários, vale-transporte, fatores estruturais, além de conflitos políticos e de interesse

Difficulties met by Unicamp students in the transition to remote learning

This paper conducts an exploratory analysis of data collected from a survey with Brazilian students at Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp) about the difficulties observed in the transition from in-person to remote learning due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We conducted bibliographic research and applied exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to responses from 1,776 students. Our goal was to obtain a model that explains most of the variance in the data. Upon analyzing the EFA results, two groups of difficulties stood out: those related to course planning and those related to access and the provision of adequate infrastructure for remote learning. These findings can contribute to higher education institutions’ institutional plans. Importantly, we are not inferring a prevalence of difficulties, but rather emphasizing that university stakeholders should actively analyze and explore these challenges

Using data science for sustainable development in higher education

Despite the abundance of studies focused on how higher education institutions (HEIs) are implementing sustainable development (SD) in their educational programmes, there is a paucity of interdisciplinary studies exploring the role of technology, such as data science, in an SD context. Further research is thus needed to identify how SD is being deployed in higher education (HE), generating positive externalities for society and the environment. This study aims to address this research gap by exploring various ways in which data science may support university efforts towards SD. The methodology relied on a bibliometric analysis to understand and visualise the connections between data science and SD in HE, as well as reporting on selected case studies showing how data science may be deployed for creating SD impact in HE and in the community. The results from the bibliometric analysis unveil five research strands driving this field, and the case studies exemplify them. This study can be considered innovative since it follows previous research on artificial intelligence and SD. Moreover, the combination of bibliometric analysis and case studies provides an overview of trends, which may be useful to researchers and decision-makers who wish to explore the use of data science for SD in HEIs. Finally, the findings highlight how data science can be used in HEIs, combined with a framework developed to support further research into SD in HE

Design Thinking for Sustainable Development: a bibliometric analysis and case study research

This paper describes the role of Design Thinking (DT) in the context of sustainable development (SD), based on a perceived research need to identify the features which may characterise its deployment, and identify ways via which it may be optimised, especially in the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). The main goal of this study is to examine the connection between DT and SD and showcase examples of what has been done to deploy it, using real-case situations. From a methodological perspective, the paper deploys a set of two methods: bibliometric analysis and case studies. Among other findings, the paper shows that DT can be used to help implement the UN SDGs by providing an approach that emphasises human-centred design. This includes identifying problems, creating user-friendly solutions, and testing them in order to ensure that they are effective. Also, by using DT, companies, organisations, and governments can create low-cost, high-impact, and sustainable solutions to help achieve SDGs such as SDG8, SDG9, SDG12, and SDG13, among others. Overall, DT provides a framework for combining creative and analytical reasoning, specific mindsets, and diverse hands-on tools and techniques to improve critical thinking abilities towards sustainability challenges. The novelty of the paper relies on the fact that the combined use of the two methods allowed the identification of some useful features of DT, which may facilitate its deployment in sustainability contexts. This may assist future studies since it provides a theoretical basis for the field

Governance in the implementation of the UN sustainable development goals in higher education : global trends

Governance is a key component for implementing sustainable development (SD) initiatives in university teaching, research, and projects. This line of thinking also applies to implementing the United Nations (UN) sustainable development goals (SDGs). Despite the role of governance in guiding processes related to the SDGs, few studies have examined these relations in an integrative manner in higher education. To bridge this knowledge gap, this study assesses the connections between governance and implementing the SDGs at higher education institutions (HEIs). Specifically, it relies on two main methods. The first is a bibliometric analysis, where the literature on the topic has been analyzed. The second method uses case studies from a sample of universities. The combined dual approach has identified the extent to which governance issues influence how these organizations perceive and handle the SDGs. The study provides valuable recommendations that may assist HEIs in implementing the SDGs with a due emphasis on governance.peer-reviewe
