Locus of control effect in the purchase and recommendation decision of co-created labeled products
This study aims to understand the relationship between consumers’ locus of control (how people perceive the causes of the events that occur in their life) and their willingness to buy and recommend co-created products (developed in partnership between consumers and companies). We tested two products from different categories, a mobile phone as a complex product and a hamburger as low complexity product. The results show that internals (people who believe that what happens in life comes from their own effort) are more likely to buy and recommend co-created products than externals (people who believe that luck and destiny traces life). Results also show that the relationship may be influenced by product characteristics, namely product complexity. Findings help managers to better target products through marketing and communication strategies in order to reach customers according to their locus of control profile.

Implementation of a Passive Acoustic Barrier for Surveillance
Dias, A. R., Santos, N. P., & Lobo, V. (2023). Implementation of a Passive Acoustic Barrier for Surveillance. In OCEANS 2023 - Limerick (pp. 1-6). IEEE Computer Society. https://doi.org/10.1109/OCEANSLimerick52467.2023.10244682With the end of the cold war, the interest in underwater warfare decreased dramatically. However, recent developments have brought underwater warfare back to center stage. Anti-submarine warfare is always one of the major concerns of a navy since it is difficult to detect an enemy submarine in the vast ocean. Conjugating the recent developments in unmanned vehicles and active and passive acoustic surveillance, we can perform better data fusion and increase our knowledge about the events occurring in our waters. The processed data originating from acoustic surveillance can potentially be an essential source of naval intelligence. An acoustic barrier can perform this detection with success. Still, these systems require highly qualified personnel to operate, present a costly infrastructure, and are hard to implement and maintain. Data fusion from multiple sources, and even from low-cost sensors with noisy measures, are a promising solution, especially if resource optimization is a priority. The implementation described in this paper is intended to be proof of concept of a low-cost implementation in shallow waters that can be easily expanded and evolved to different scenarios. The preliminary results obtained confirm that this is a viable solution.authorsversionpublishe
brand love.
exceção do fortalecimento. Os contributos são afetados pela
informação, entretenimento, identidade pessoal, remuneração e
brand love.
This dissertation presents as main objective to understand what

study. The Use and Gratifications theory, a communication theory, and
the COBRA Framework, a framework that relates consumer
engagement with brands. The aim is to understand whether what
leads consumers to choose one social network over another
impacts consumers' engagement with brands, in this case football
clubs, on social media.
From the Use and Gratifications theory resulted the independent
variables, information, entertainment, personal identity,
integration and social interaction, empowerment, remuneration and
brand love. From the COBRA Framework emerged the dependent
variables consumption, contributions and creation.
This study was carried out through the answers given by football fans,
through a questionnaire that was provided to people in the
dissertation author's circle of contacts. A total of 140 answers
were obtained, however, after two filtering questions, only 92
people were considered valid, this being the sample of the
population understudy.
The results obtained show that consumption is positively affected by
all the independent variables, except for empowerment. The
contributions are affected by information, entertainment,
personal identity, remuneration and brand love. Creation is
positively affected by information, integration and social
interaction and brand love.
This study allows football clubs to understand how they should

Preparation of the orgamomodified cellulose acetate membranes for adsorption of the ions Cu(II), Cd(II), Mn(II) AND Ni(II)
Cellulose acetate polymeric membranes had been prepared by a procedure of two steps, combining the method of phase inversion and the technique of hydrolysis-deposition. The first step was the preparation of the membrane, and together was organomodified with tetraethylortosilicate and 3-aminopropyltrietoxysilane. Parameters that exert influence in the complexation of the metallic ion, as pH, time of complexation, metal concentration, had been studied in laboratory using tests of metal removal. The membranes had presented resistance mechanics and reactivity to cations, being able to be an alternative for the removal, daily pay-concentration or in the study of the lability of metals complexed
Zigzag graphene nanoribbon edge reconstruction with stone-wales defects
In this paper, we study zigzag graphene nanoribbons with edges reconstructed with Stone-Wales defects, by
means of an empirical (first-neighbor) tight-binding method, with parameters determined by ab initio calculations
of very narrow ribbons. We explore the characteristics of the electronic band structure with a focus on the nature
of edge states. Edge reconstruction allows the appearance of a new type of edge states. They are dispersive,
with nonzero amplitudes in both sublattices; furthermore, the amplitudes have two components that decrease
with different decay lengths with the distance from the edge; at the Dirac points one of these lengths diverges,
whereas the other remains finite, of the order of the lattice parameter. We trace this curious effect to the doubling
of the unit cell along the edge, brought about by the edge reconstruction. In the presence of a magnetic field, the
zero-energy Landau level is no longer degenerate with edge states as in the case of the pristine zigzag ribbon.Fundacao para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) SFRH/BD/44456/2008.FEDER - Programa Operacional Factores de Competitividade - COMPET

Target costing: Model proposal for a small construction business
The implementation of a cost control system in construction companies contributes to reducing resource losses in the production process and increasing business productivity and profitability, especially when it comes to small business, which normally do not have a planning system and efficient control. Therefore, this article aims to propose a target costing model for a small construction business, concerning the efficient evaluation of its costs for the maximization of profits in proposals to provide services to public entities. A case study is used, in which data collection occurred through a questionnaire, observations of the process of preparing financial proposals, other unstructured questions, and documentary search, whose approach includes descriptive and qualitative research. The survey results revealed that the enterprise has a cost control system, but is technologically backward. Besides, the enterprise already intuitively used the concepts of target cost in preparing budgets. After evaluating the costs, a target costing model was suggested for the enterprise to use as a parameter in the bidding processes, however, it was not implemented due to the current unfavorable conditions
