MPI-Ding reference glasses for in situ microanalysis: New reference values for element concentrations and isotope ratios
We present new analytical data of major and trace elements for the geological MPI-DING glasses KL2-G, ML3B-G, StHs6/80-G, GOR128-G, GOR132-G, BM90/21-G, T1-G, and ATHO-G. Different analytical methods were used to obtain a large spectrum of major and trace element data, in particular, EPMA, SIMS, LA-ICPMS, and isotope dilution by TIMS and ICPMS. Altogether, more than 60 qualified geochemical laboratories worldwide contributed to the analyses, allowing us to present new reference and information values and their uncertainties (at 95% confidence level) for up to 74 elements. We complied with the recommendations for the certification of geological reference materials by the International Association of Geoanalysts (IAG). The reference values were derived from the results of 16 independent techniques, including definitive (isotope dilution) and comparative bulk (e.g., INAA, ICPMS, SSMS) and microanalytical (e.g., LA-ICPMS, SIMS, EPMA) methods. Agreement between two or more independent methods and the use of definitive methods provided traceability to the fullest extent possible. We also present new and recently published data for the isotopic compositions of H, B, Li, O, Ca, Sr, Nd, Hf, and Pb. The results were mainly obtained by high-precision bulk techniques, such as TIMS and MC-ICPMS. In addition, LA-ICPMS and SIMS isotope data of B, Li, and Pb are presented

Social compatibility of telecommunication technologies: Results of the Citizen Report on ISDN
The implementation of ISDN is in some countries still accompanied by critical discussion. The necessity and the social compatibility of this technological innovation have become a controversial matter. In Germany a debate has developed from these doubts and has caused some damage to ISDN's image. On the basis of this criticism, DBP Telekom has not only pursued an intensive public relations exercise as well as a user-oriented implementation strategy but has also participated in the debate by conducting an extensive experiment. More than 500 citizens were given the opportunity to test ISDN, to inform themselves about ISDN by asking questions of critics and experts, and to assess it for four days.

Datenspuren in digitalisierten Telekommunikationsnetzen Ein Vergleich der Datenschutzregelungen in europaeischen Laendern am Fall ISDN
'The modernization of telephone networks by the digitalization of transmission- and switching technology as well as the implementation of ISDN can be regarded as trends all over Europe. By this technical progress the handling of communication data and billing procedures changes. New services for the customers like itemized billing and new characteristics in the telephone service like calling-line-identification or call forwarding require new thoughts and regulations with regard to the protection of privacy. The necessity to enact new data protection rules for the telecommunications sector applies to all countries which implement new technologies and services. For different reasons there is also the necessity to push forward a regulation on the European level. Though, an observer of the media could get the impression that only in Germany the protection of communication is threatened; the different reaction level of data- and consumer protectors in the European countries demands at least an explanation. Such explanation attempts at first fail because there is scarcely information about data protection regulations in the telecommunications sector for particular European countries. The primary concern of this study is to collect this information, to analyse it systematically and to compare it. The study contains a documentation of the state-of-the-art in European countries in the following areas: the integration of data protection into the fundamental rights or into the constitution; statements of the data protection legislation with relevance to telecommunication; the organization of data protection by Telecom-Operators or by regulatory authorities; storage of communication data in ISDN or in digital networks in general; the regulations of ISDN-Services, e.g. itemized billing and calling-line-identification. In addition to that, the study tries to determinate those factors which fix the data protection regulations in the countries and in particular for Telecom-Operators and Service Providers. Furthermore, the study tries to give a contribution to the better understanding of the relationship between technology development and regulation problems on the one hand and cultural systems of societies and norm genesis on the other hand.' Primary localization and tumor thickness as prognostic factors of survival in patients with mucosal melanoma
BACKGROUND: Data on survival with mucosal melanoma and on prognostic factors of are scarce. It is still unclear if the disease course allows for mucosal melanoma to be treated as primary cutaneous melanoma or if differences in overall survival patterns require adapted therapeutic approaches. Furthermore, this investigation is the first to present 10-year survival rates for mucosal melanomas of different anatomical localizations.
METHODOLOGY: 116 cases from Sep 10 1984 until Feb 15 2011 retrieved from the Comprehensive Cancer Center and of the Central Register of the German Dermatologic Society databases in Tübingen were included in our analysis. We recorded anatomical location and tumor thickness, and estimated overall survival at 2, 5 and 10 years and the mean overall survival time. Survival times were analyzed with the Kaplan-Meier method. The log-rank test was used to compare survival times by localizations and by T-stages.
PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: We found a median overall survival time of 80.9 months, with an overall 2-year survival of 71.7%, 5-year survival of 55.8% and 10-year survival of 38.3%. The 10-year survival rates for patients with T1, T2, T3 or T4 stage tumors were 100.0%, 77.9%, 66.3% and 10.6% respectively. 10-year survival of patients with melanomas of the vulva was 64.5% in comparison to 22.3% of patients with non-vulva mucosal melanomas.
CONCLUSION: Survival times differed significantly between patients with melanomas of the vulva compared to the rest (p = 0.0006). It also depends on T-stage at the time of diagnosis (p < 0.0001)
