Maize (Zea mays L ) is the most important food crops in the world beside rice and wheat. Weeds are one factor cause decrease productivity of maize. The objectives of this research were to know of dose combination atrazine and mesotrione herbicide to control the weed in maize field and how was the atrazine and mesotrione effect to maize. The research was conducted in Natar, South Lampung and Weeds Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung, from December 2014 to April 2015. The experiment was arranged in Completely Randomized Block Design (CRBD) with six treatments and four replications. The treatments are combination atrazine and mesotrion herbicide rates at 500+50; 750+75; 1000+100; 1250+125; and 1500+150 g ha-1, mechanical weeding, and control. Homogenity of variance was tested by Bartlett test and additivitty tested by Tukey's test, the comparison of mean were tested by Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at 5% level. The result showed that (1) Atrazine and mesotrione herbicide at 500+50 until 1500+150 g ha-could suppress total, sedges, Cyperus rotundus and Celosia argenthea weed at 3 Weeks After Treatment (WAT), whereas at 6 WAT couldn't suppress weeds. (2) Atrazine and mesotrione herbicide at 500+50 until 1500+150 g ha-could suppress broadleaves, Richardia Brasiliensis and Commelina benghalensis weeds until 6 WAT. (3) Atrazine and mesotrione herbicide at 500+50 until 1500+150 g ha-couldn't suppress grasses and Rottboellia exaltata weed until 6 WAT (4) Atrazine and mesotrione herbicide does not affect the growth and production of maize

“The problem with all those teachers Is that they are completely numb”: representations of teachers and education in recent Dutch novels

Get PDF
Research shows that teachers and education are often represented negatively or stereotypically in popular and literary culture, both in the Dutch language area and in Anglophone contexts. Regarding contemporary Dutch literature, though, research on educational representations has until now focussed on small corpora of novels that explicitly deal with education. In this article, we explore the representations of teachers and education in a much larger and broader corpus: the 170 submissions to the bulk list of the prestigious Dutch Libris Literatuurprijs of 2013. We provide a Keyword in Context Analysis of 292 educational representations in this corpus and offer a demographic analysis of the 71 teachers who inhabit the novels under analysis. In doing so, we show that educational representations and teacher characters are relatively common in contemporary Dutch language novels. Our analysis also reveals that literary representations of teachers are predominantly negative in nature, especially regarding their behaviour towards students, their external presentation, and their pedagogical skills. Representations of education in general tend to be even more negative. In that sense, literary representations of education appear to converge with the negative public appeal of the educational sector in the contemporary Low Countries.Modern and Contemporary Studie

Tissintite, (Ca,Na,□)AlSi_2O_6: A Shock-Induced Clinopyroxene in the Tissint Meteorite

Get PDF
During a nanomineralogy investigation of the Tissint Martian meteorite, we discovered the new shock-induced mineral tissintite, (Ca,Na,□)AlSi_2O_6, which is named after Tissint, Morocco, where the host meteorite fell. This phase provides new insights into shock conditions and impact processes on Mars. Here, we emphasize the origin of tissintite (IMA 2013-027) and demonstrate how nanomineralogy can play an important role in meteorite and Mars rock research

Indonesia has entered Revolution 4.0 where technology has become the basis of human life. Slowly but sure, Indonesia is entering the Society 5.0 Era characterized by (1) freedom; (2) customization; (3) scrutiny; (4) integrity; (5) entertainment; (6) speed; and (7) innovation. Society 5.0 offers a human-centered society that makes a balance between economic progress and solving social problems through a highly connected system between the virtual and real world. According to the Japanese prime minister, Shinzo Abe, explained in the World Economic Forum (WEF) that the Society 5.0 is no longer about capital, but data that connects and mobilizes all fields such as education and health that must fill the gap in society. At this time, we will propose the role of education in the Era of Society 5.0, especially related to chemistry learning that facilitates the need for self-esteem. Human needs are the same, such as basic needs, described as the hierarchy of needs by Maslow's Theory. The need for self-esteem is one of the needs of human psychology that must be fulfilled, especially for students to face the challenges of the Era of Society 5.0 to enrich chemistry learning as a need for a more meaningful life. The participants are 34 Grade X students from Natural Science Class 2 of Public High School (SMA NEGERI) 18 Jakarta. The data are pretest by Likert Scale Questionnaire, and posttest by a simple chemistry learning module with topic acid-base equilibrium. Keywords: Society 5.0; need for self-esteem; chemistry.Indonesia has entered Revolution 4.0 where technology has become the basis of human life. The Impact of Global Warming and Anoxia on Marine Benthic Community Dynamics: an Example from the Toarcian (Early Jurassic)

Get PDF
The Pliensbachian-Toarcian (Early Jurassic) fossil record is an archive of natural data of benthic community response to global warming and marine long-term hypoxia and anoxia. In the early Toarcian mean temperatures increased by the same order of magnitude as that predicted for the near future; laminated, organic-rich, black shales were deposited in many shallow water epicontinental basins; and a biotic crisis occurred in the marine realm, with the extinction of approximately 5% of families and 26% of genera. High-resolution quantitative abundance data of benthic invertebrates were collected from the Cleveland Basin (North Yorkshire, UK), and analysed with multivariate statistical methods to detect how the fauna responded to environmental changes during the early Toarcian. Twelve biofacies were identified. Their changes through time closely resemble the pattern of faunal degradation and recovery observed in modern habitats affected by anoxia. All four successional stages of community structure recorded in modern studies are recognised in the fossil data (i.e. Stage III: climax; II: transitional; I: pioneer; 0: highly disturbed). Two main faunal turnover events occurred: (i) at the onset of anoxia, with the extinction of most benthic species and the survival of a few adapted to thrive in low-oxygen conditions (Stages I to 0) and (ii) in the recovery, when newly evolved species colonized the re-oxygenated soft sediments and the path of recovery did not retrace of pattern of ecological degradation (Stages I to II). The ordination of samples coupled with sedimentological and palaeotemperature proxy data indicate that the onset of anoxia and the extinction horizon coincide with both a rise in temperature and sea level. Our study of how faunal associations co-vary with long and short term sea level and temperature changes has implications for predicting the long-term effects of “dead zones” in modern oceans
