Averaged Singular Integral Estimation as a Bias Reduction Technique

    Get PDF
This paper proposes an averaged version of singular integral estimators, whose bias achieves higher rates of convergence under smoothing assumptions. We derive exact bias bounds, without imposing smoothing assumptions, which are a basis for deriving the rates of convergence under differentiability assumptions.Publicad

Global rates of convergence for the bias of singular integral estimators and their shifted versions

    Get PDF
This paper provides global rates of convergence for the bias of singular integral estimators of a probability density function under weak conditions, which avoid differentiability. It is also shown that, under smoothing conditions, shifting the singular integral estimators provides a bias reduction technique

On universal unbiasedness of delta estimators

    Get PDF
This paper considers delta estimators of a Radon-Nicodym derivative of a probability function with respect to a measure. Sufficient conditions for asymptotic unbiasedness and global rates of convergence, which can be improved by imposing differentiability conditions on the estimated curves, are provided. A bias reduction technique is proposed, and the application of the results to regression estimation is discussed. The sufficient conditions for asymptotic unbiasedness are checked for some broad classes of nonparametric estimators

Circumnuclear structure and kinematics in the active galaxy NGC 6951

A study is presented of the central structure and kinematics of the galaxy NGC 6951, by means of broad band B'IJK images and high resolution high dispersion longslit spectroscopy, together with archival HST WFPC2 V and NICMOS2 J and H images. We find that there is evidence of two modes of star formation, in bursts and continuously. The equivalent width of the CaII triplet absorption lines show that, in the metal rich central region, the continuum is dominated by a population of red supergiants. The gaseous and stellar kinematics along three slit position angles, suggest the existence of a hierarchy of disks within disks, whose dynamics are decoupled at the two ILRs, that we find at 180 pc and at 1100 pc. This is supported by the structure seen in the high resolution HST images. The nucleus is spatially resolved within a radius of 1.5 arcsec, just inside the innermost ILR. Outside the iILR, the stellar CaT velocity profile is resolved into two components, associated with the bar and the disk. Several results indicate that this is a dynamically old system. It is thus possible that a nuclear bar has existed in NGC 6951 that drove the gas towards the nucleus, as in the bars within bars scenario, but that this bar has already dissolved by the gas accumulated within the circumnuclear region. We discuss the possibility that the kinematical component inside the iILR could be due to a nuclear outflow produced by the combined effects of SN and SN remnants, or to a nuclear disk, as in the disk within disk scenario that we propose for the fueling of the AGN in NGC 6951.Comment: 14 pages, 16 figures. The liturgy of the Opening of the Mouth represented in the tomb of Djehuty (TT 11) is relatively well preserved. It is placed, as is customary, in the corridor leading to the inner chapel. The present paper is a preliminary report, drawing attention to the fact that here we have a very complete copy of this funerary ritual, and probably one of the oldest preserved, therefore signifying a very important contribution to the better understanding of the whole ceremony

However, this relationship remains unclear in young euthyroid adults. The present work examines the associations of circulating thyroid hormones (THs) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) concentrations with body composition and cardiometabolic risk factors in young euthyroid adults. A total of 106 sedentary, euthyroid adults (72 women; 22 ± 2 years old) participated in this cross-sectional study. THs and TSH serum concentrations were determined in fasting conditions (6 h). Body composition (fat mass (FM), lean mass (LM), and visceral adipose tissue (VAT)) was determined by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, anthropometric parameters (weight, height, and waist circumference) were measured, and neck adipose tissue mass was quantified through computed tomography (CT) scanning. Cardiometabolic risk factors including fasting glucose and lipid metabolism markers, hepatic phosphatase and transaminases, and blood pressure were also assessed. Free triiodothyronine (FT3) concentration was positively associated with body mass index, LM, VAT, and waist circumference (all P ≤ 0.038). FT3 was also associated with glucose, insulin, HOMA-IR, fatty liver index, and blood pressure (all P < 0.024). All the associations were attenuated when adjusting for sex. In contrast, we found no associations of TSH or free thyroxine with any body composition parameter or cardiometabolic risk factors. In conclusion, FT3 is associated with central adiposity and cardiometabolic risk factors including insulin resistance, fatty liver index, and mean, systolic and diastolic blood pressure in young euthyroid adults. Digital filter implementation over FPGA platform with LINUX OS

AbstractThe embedded processors on FPGA's are a good tool to specific propose works. In this work we present how the FPGA is used to apply a Sobel filter to a set of images, also the step needed to set-up the entire system is described. An embedded processor, with a Linux distribution implemented is used to run a special compilation of C filter program, the filter is compared with the results obtained with a PC running the same filter, in the embedded system all the process runs in the FPGA and the exit file can be accessed by ftp or http server embedded into the Linux system
