Topology of Spaces of Valuations and Geometry of Singularities
Given an algebraic variety X defined over an algebraically closed field, we study the space RZ(X,x) consisting of all the valuations of the function field of X which are centered in a closed point x of X. We concentrate on its homeomorphism type. We prove that, when x is a regular point, this homeomorphism type only depends on the dimension of X. If x is a singular point of a normal surface, we show that it only depends on the dual graph of a good resolution of (X,x) up to some precise equivalence. This is done by studying the relation between RZ(X,x) and the normalized non-Archimedean link of x in X coming from the point of view of Berkovich geometry. We prove that their behavior is the same
An LP-Based Approach for Goal Recognition as Planning
Goal recognition aims to recognize the set of candidate goals that are
compatible with the observed behavior of an agent. In this paper, we develop a
method based on the operator-counting framework that efficiently computes
solutions that satisfy the observations and uses the information generated to
solve goal recognition tasks. Our method reasons explicitly about both partial
and noisy observations: estimating uncertainty for the former, and satisfying
observations given the unreliability of the sensor for the latter. We evaluate
our approach empirically over a large data set, analyzing its components on how
each can impact the quality of the solutions. In general, our approach is
superior to previous methods in terms of agreement ratio, accuracy, and spread.
Finally, our approach paves the way for new research on combinatorial

On the distribution of an effective channel estimator for multi-cell massive MIMO
Accurate channel estimation is of utmost importance for massive MIMO systems to provide significant improvements in spectral and energy efficiency. In this work, we present a study on the distribution of a simple but yet effective and practical channel estimator for multi-cell massive MIMO systems suffering from pilot-contamination. The proposed channel estimator performs well under moderate to aggressive pilot contamination scenarios without previous knowledge of the inter-cell large-scale channel coefficients and noise power, asymptotically approximating the performance of the linear MMSE estimator as the number of antennas increases. We prove that the distribution of the proposed channel estimator can be accurately approximated by the circularly-symmetric complex normal distribution, when the number of antennas, M, deployed at the base station is greater than 10
