Drawing Graphs within Restricted Area

We study the problem of selecting a maximum-weight subgraph of a given graph such that the subgraph can be drawn within a prescribed drawing area subject to given non-uniform vertex sizes. We develop and analyze heuristics both for the general (undirected) case and for the use case of (directed) calculation graphs which are used to analyze the typical mistakes that high school students make when transforming mathematical expressions in the process of calculating, for example, sums of fractions

Thermal profiles in pervious concrete during summer rain simulations

Pervious concrete pavement systems may have many environmental benefits including the mitigation of heat island impacts. This mitigation is a complex combination of pervious concrete‟s insulating capability and its ability to store water which may provide evaporative cooling. However, the introduction of water may also bring heat into the system, where the system is the pervious concrete pavement layer over an underground aggregate bed for retention and/or detention of stormwater. This study involved three different mix design placements in southern Brazil on a hot sunny summer day. The experiment had a control section and two test spots where controlled artificial rain events were introduced at two times during the afternoon for each of the three placement types. The „rain‟ initially brought heat from the surface into the pervious concrete layer. Subsequent evaporation cooled these interior pavement layers to levels similar to the control locations. This introduction of water into pervious concrete with very hot surface temperatures in the heat of the day is expected to be a severe condition for adding heat to the system through the flow of water. If water additions are made at different diurnal times, such as nighttime rain, they may provide similar evaporative benefits with less heat transfer into the system via the water phase, and thus even more cooling of the system. These experiments reinforce the conclusion that pervious concrete may be a cool pavement during summer conditions, even under extreme conditions when surface heated stormwater enters the system

CONCEPÇÃO DE UM MODELO DE INDICADORES DE GESTÃO DE PESSOAS: O CASO DOS INSTITUTOS FEDERAIS DE EDUCAÇÃO, CIÊNCIA E TECNOLOGIA

O presente estudo teve como objetivo geral desenvolver um modelo de Indicadores de Gestão de Pessoas para Institutos Federais. Inicialmente, foram coletados indicadores em 228 relatórios de gestão, extraídos do banco de dados do TCU, e tratados por meio de análise de conteúdo. Em seguida, formatou-se um modelo composto por nove Indicadores de Gestão de Pessoas, coletados e ponderados por ordem de preferência (aplicação prática) e respaldo teórico (análise bibliográfica). O referido modelo foi avaliado por meio de entrevistas com gestores de pessoal de três Institutos Federais. Os entrevistados consideram que quase todos os indicadores apresentados possuem aplicação prática, e que o modelo pode contribuir com a tomada de decisões gerenciais e facilitar a transparência de informações à sociedade e aos órgãos controladores

FOAD – ferramenta web para apoio à orientação acadêmica à distância

As ferramentas de Educação a Distância (EAD) deixaram de ser algo alheio a nossa realidade, para estar a cada dia mais incorporadas no cotidiano. Este artigo apresenta uma ferramenta web, que tem por objetivo principal apoiar o processo de orientação acadêmica, de modo a facilitar a comunicação entre orientador-orientando. A ferramenta pretende atingir os seguintes objetivos: (1) prover a comunicação entre o orientador (professor) e o orientando (aluno) e (2) gerenciar a informação originada a partir da comunicação entre orientador e orientando. DINÂMICA DE SISTEMAS PARA ANALISAR O IMPACTO ECONÔMICO DE UMA AGÊNCIA DE INOVAÇÃO EM UMA INSTITUIÇÃO PÚBLICA Systems dynamics to analyze the economic impact of an innovation agency in a public institution

This research presents a financial economic analysis of the Agency of Innovation and Technology Transfer (AGITTEC) of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM). With the intention of contributing to the scientific knowledge of the area, this article was built with a research problem defined in verifying how much AGITTEC needs to generate revenue so that it can be self-financed. A research protocol was systematized according to the dynamic systems method consistent with the required methodological rigor. The contribution of this research is linked to a discussion of the favorable results and benefits of the relationship between university and agency, which can extend to improve the competitiveness of companies by presenting a better development. The study served to verify that despite the revenues, There is a heavy dependence of the agency on UFSM resources, and about 90% of its costs and expenses

ANÁLISE DA VIABILIDADE ECONÔMICA DA AGÊNCIA DE INOVAÇÃO DE UMA INSTITUIÇÃO DE ENSINO SUPERIOR

Esta pesquisa apresenta uma análise econômica financeira da Agência de Inovação e Transferência de Tecnologia (AGITTEC) de uma Instituição de Ensino Superior (IES). Com a pretensão de contribuir para o conhecimento científico da área, este artigo foi construído tendo um problema de pesquisa definido emverificar quanto a AGITTEC necessita gerar de receita para que possa ser autofinanciada. Foi sistematizado um protocolo de pesquisa de acordo com o método sistemas dinâmicos condizente com o rigor metodológico exigido. A contribuição desta pesquisa se vincula a realizar uma discussão dos resultados favoráveis e benefícios da relação entre a universidade e agência, que podem se estender para melhoria da competitividade das empresas ao apresentarem um melhor desenvolvimento.O estudo serviu para verificar a que apesar das receitas, existe uma grande dependência da agência em relação aos recursos da IES, sendo cerca de 90% dos seus custos e despesas

A search for the decay modes B+/- to h+/- tau l

We present a search for the lepton flavor violating decay modes B+/- to h+/- tau l (h= K,pi; l= e,mu) using the BaBar data sample, which corresponds to 472 million BBbar pairs. The search uses events where one B meson is fully reconstructed in one of several hadronic final states. Using the momenta of the reconstructed B, h, and l candidates, we are able to fully determine the tau four-momentum. The resulting tau candidate mass is our main discriminant against combinatorial background. We see no evidence for B+/- to h+/- tau l decays and set a 90% confidence level upper limit on each branching fraction at the level of a few times 10^-5.Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures, submitted to Phys.
