    It has been shown that the criticism of Pauli as well as of Susskind and Glogover may be avoided if the standard quantum-mechanical mathematical model has been suitably extended. There is not more any reason for Einstein's citicism, either, if in addition to some new results concerning Bell's inequalities and Belifante's argument are taken into account. The ensemble interpretation of quantum mechanics (or the hidden-variable theory) should be preferred, which is also supported by the already published results of experiments with three polarizers. Greater space in the text has been devoted also to the discussion of epistemological problems and some philosophical consequences.Comment: 12 page

    Multi MeV protons, deuterons and carbon ions produced by the PALS laser system

    Multi MeV ions and fusion neutrons were generated by focused radiation of the 3 TW Prague Asterix Laser System (PALS). The use of 8 μm Al foil as XUV filter positioned in front of an ion collector allowed measuring currents of 4-MeV protons emitted behind a thin target in the forward direction. The proton energy of 4 MeV generated by a PALS laser irradiance Iλ2~5×1016 W cm-2 μm2 on target is nominally reachable for picosecond lasers when they deliver the intensity Iλ2~3×1018 W cm-2 μm2. The enhanced maximum proton energy is favoured by a non-linear interaction of the laser beam with the pre-generated plasma. Nonlinear processes also cause enhancement in the yield of fusion neutrons per focused laser energy from the CD2 plasma. The obtained results show that an equivalent neutron yield was reached by ps- and sub-ps laser beams for Iλ2~1019 W cm-2 μm2. The hampering influence of the electromagnetic pulse generated within the interaction chamber on diagnostics signals was eliminated

    Semiconductor Detectors for Observation of Multi-MeV Protons and Ions Produced by Lasers

    The application of time-of-flight Faraday cups and SiC detectors for the measurement of currents of fast ions emitted by laser-produced plasmas is reported. Presented analysis of signals of ion detectors reflects the design and construction of the detector used. A similarity relation between output signals of ion collectors and semiconductor detectors is established. Optimization of the diagnostic system is discussed with respect to the emission time of electromagnetic pulses interfering with signals induced by the fastest ions accelerated up to velocities of 107 m/s.     Neutron activation of 69^{69}Ga and 71^{71}Ga at kBT≈25 keV

    Background: About 50% of heavy elements are produced by the slow neutron capture process (s process) in stars. The element gallium is mostly produced during the weak s process in massive stars. Purpose: Our activation at kB_{B}T≈25 keV is the first experiment in a series of activation and time-of-flight measurements on 69^{69}Ga and 71^{71}Ga relevant for astrophysics. Methods: We activated 69^{69}Ga and 71^{71}Ga with a neutron distribution that corresponds to a quasistellar distribution with kB_{B}T=25 keV at the Joint Research Centre (JRC), Geel, Belgium. Protons were provided by an electrostatic Van de Graaff accelerator to produce neutrons via the reaction 7^{7}Li(p,n). The produced activity was measured via the γ emission by the decaying product nuclei by high-purity germanium detectors. Results: We provide spectrum-averaged cross sections (SACS) and ratios of the cross sections σGa_{Ga}Au_{Au} for the neutron spectrum of the activation. We obtain values of σ69Ga,SACS_{69Ga,SACS}=(186±12) mb and σ71GA,SACS_{71GA,SACS} = (112±7) mb, and cross section ratios of σ69Ga_{69Ga}Au_{Au}=0.29±0.02 and σ71Ga_{71Ga}Au_{Au} = 0.17±0.01. Conclusions: Our data disagree with the available evaluated data provided by KADoNiS v0.3, our cross-section ratio is about 20% higher for 69^{69}Ga and about 20% lower for 71^{71}Ga

    Meson and di-electron production with HADES

    The HADES experiment, installed at GSI, Darmstadt, measures di-electron production in A+A, p/pi+N and p/pi+A collisions. Here, the pi0 and eta Dalitz decays have been reconstructed in the exclusive p+p reaction at 2.2 GeV to form a reference cocktail for long-lived di-electron sources. In the C+C reaction at 1 and 2 GeV/u, these long-lived sources have been subtracted from the measured inclusive e+e- yield to exhibit the signal from the early phase of the collision.     Production of Sigma{\pm}pi?pK+ in p+p reactions at 3.5 GeV beam energy

    We study the production of Sigma^+-pi^+-pK^+ particle quartets in p+p reactions at 3.5 GeV kinetic beam energy. The data were taken with the HADES experiment at GSI. This report evaluates the contribution of resonances like Lambda(1405$, Sigma(1385)^0, Lambda(1520), Delta(1232), N^* and K^*0 to the Sigma^+- pi^-+ p K+ final state. The resulting simulation model is compared to the experimental data in several angular distributions and it shows itself as suitable to evaluate the acceptance corrections properly.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure

    An upper limit on hypertriton production in collisions of Ar(1.76 AGeV)+KCl

    A high-statistic data sample of Ar(1.76 AGeV)+KCl events recorded with HADES is used to search for a hypertriton signal. An upper production limit per centrality-triggered event of 1.041.04 x 10310^{-3} on the 3σ3\sigma level is derived. Comparing this value with the number of successfully reconstructed Λ\Lambda hyperons allows to determine an upper limit on the ratio NΛ3H/NΛN_{_{\Lambda}^3H}/N_{\Lambda}, which is confronted with statistical and coalescence-type model calculations

    Study of dielectron production in C+C collisions at 1 AGeV

    The emission of e+e- pairs from C+C collisions at an incident energy of 1 GeV per nucleon has been investigated. The measured production probabilities, spanning from the pi0-Dalitz to the rho/omega! invariant-mass region, display a strong excess above the cocktail of standard hadronic sources. The bombarding-energy dependence of this excess is found to scale like pion production, rather than like eta production. The data are in good agreement with results obtained in the former DLS experiment.Comment: submitted to Physics Letters
