FSR 0190: Another old distant Galactic cluster
We are conducting a large programme to classify newly discovered Milky Way star cluster candidates from Froebrich et al. Here we present near-infrared follow-up observations of FSR0190 (α = 20h05m31s.3, δ = 33°34â?²09â?², J2000). The cluster is situated close to the Galactic plane (l = 70°7302, b = +0°9498). It shows a circular shape, and a relatively large number of core helium burning stars - which clearly distinguishes the cluster from the rich field - but no centrally condensed star density profile. We derive an age of more than 7 Gyr, a Galactocentric distance of 10.5 kpc, a distance of 10 kpc from the Sun, and an extinction of AK = 0.8 mag. The estimated mass is at least of the order of 105 Mâ??, and the absolute brightness is MV â?¤ -4.7 mag; both are rather typical properties for Palomar-type globular clusters. © 2007 The Authors. Rocketdyne's advanced coal slurry pumping program
The Rocketdyne Division of Rockwell International Corporation is conducting a program for the engineering, fabrication, and testing of an experimental/prototype high-capacity, high-pressure centrifugal slurry feed pump for coal liquefaction purposes. The abrasion problems in a centrifugal slurry pump are primarily due to the manner in which the hard, solid particles contained in the slurry are transported through the hydraulic flow passages within the pump. The abrasive particles can create scraping, grinding, cutting, and sandblasting effects on the various exposed parts of the pump. These critical areas involving abrasion and impact erosion wear problems in a centrifugal pump are being addressed by Rocketdyne. The mechanisms of abrasion and erosion are being studied through hydrodynamic analysis, materials evaluation, and advanced design concepts

The Effects of Private Self-Consciousness and Perspective Taking on Satisfaction in Close Relationships.
131 heterosexual student couples, aged 17–32 yrs, 30 of whom were married or engaged answered questions concerning themselves and their relationships. It was predicted that individual differences in private self-consciousness would be positively related to relationship satisfaction because of the greater self-disclosure resulting from that heightened self-attention. It was further predicted that individual differences in perspective taking would foster relationship satisfaction, independent of any influence of self-disclosure. Both expectations were confirmed. Scores on the private self-consciousness scale were predictive of reported self-disclosure, and self-disclosure was predictive of satisfaction in the relationship. Once the influence of self-disclosure was removed, no effect of self-consciousness on satisfaction remained. In contrast, after disclosure was controlled, perspective-taking scores were significantly related to satisfaction and were in fact unrelated to disclosure at all. Findings indicate that 2 personality characteristics having to do with habitual attention to behavioral tendencies, emotions, and motivations significantly enhance the quality of close heterosexual relationships in different ways
Chiral approach to antikaon s- and p-wave interactions in dense nuclear matter
The properties of the antikaons in nuclear matter are investigated from a
chiral unitary approach which incorporates the s- and p-waves of the interaction. To obtain the in-medium meson-baryon amplitudes we include,
in a self-consistent way, Pauli blocking effects, meson self-energies corrected
by nuclear short-range correlations and baryon binding potentials. We pay
special attention to investigating the validity of the on-shell factorization,
showing that it cannot be applied in the evaluation of the in-medium
corrections to the p-wave amplitudes. In nuclear matter at saturation energy,
the and develop an attractive potential of about -30 MeV,
while the pole remains at the free space value although its width
gets sensibly increased to about 80 MeV. The antikaon also develops a moderate
attraction that does not support the existence of very deep and narrow bound
states, confirming the findings of previous self-consistent calculations.Comment: 29 pages, 12 figures, published in Physical Review

ASCA observations of massive medium-distant clusters of galaxies. II
We have selected seven medium-distant clusters of galaxies (z ~ 0.1 - 0.3)
for multi-wavelength observations with the goal of investigating their
dynamical state. Following Paper I (Pierre et al. 1999) which reported the ASCA
results about two of them, we present here the analysis of the ASCA
observations of the other five clusters; RXJ1023.8-2715 (A3444),
RXJ1031.6-2607, RXJ1050.5-0236 (A1111), RXJ1203.2-2131(A1451), and
RXJ1314.5-2517. Except for RXJ1031.6, whose X-ray emission turned out to be
dominated by an AGN, the ASCA spectra are well fitted by a one-temperature thin
thermal plasma model. We compare the temperature-luminosity relation of our
clusters with that of nearby ones (z<0.1). Two clusters, RXJ1050.5 and
RXJ1023.8, show larger luminosities than the bulk of clusters at similar
temperatures, which suggests the presence of a cooling flow. The temperature
vs. iron-abundance relationship of our sample is consistent with that of nearby

The basic K nuclear cluster K- pp and its enhanced formation in the p + p -> K+ + X reaction
We have studied the structure of K- pp nuclear cluster comprehensively by
solving this three-body system exactly in a variational method starting from
the Ansatz that the Lambda(1405) resonance (Lambda*) is a K-p bound state. We
have found that our original prediction for the presence of K-pp as a compact
bound system with M = 2322 GeV/c), leads to
unusually large self-trapping of Lambda* by the participating proton, since the
Lambda*-p system exists as a compact doorway state propagating to K- pp
