An NGO-Implemented Community-Clinic Health Worker Approach to Providing Long-Term Care for Hypertension in a Remote Region of Southern India.
Poor blood pressure control results in tremendous morbidity and mortality in India where the leading cause of death among adults is from coronary heart disease. Despite having little formal education, community health workers (CHWs) are integral to successful public health interventions in India and other low- and middle-income countries that have a shortage of trained health professionals. Training CHWs to screen for and manage chronic hypertension, with support from trained clinicians, offers an excellent opportunity for effecting systemwide change in hypertension-related burden of disease. In this article, we describe the development of a program that trained CHWs between 2014 and 2015 in the tribal region of the Sittilingi Valley in southern India, to identify hypertensive patients in the community, refer them for diagnosis and initial management in a physician-staffed clinic, and provide them with sustained lifestyle interventions and medications over multiple visits. We found that after 2 years, the CHWs had screened 7,176 people over age 18 for hypertension, 1,184 (16.5%) of whom were screened as hypertensive. Of the 1,184 patients screened as hypertensive, 898 (75.8%) had achieved blood pressure control, defined as a systolic blood pressure less than 140 and a diastolic blood pressure less than 90 sustained over 3 consecutive visits. While all of the 24 trained CHWs reported confidence in checking blood pressure with a manual blood pressure cuff, 4 of the 24 CHWs reported occasional difficulty documenting blood pressure values because they were unable to write numbers properly. They compensated by asking other CHWs or members of their community to help with documentation. Our experience and findings suggest that a CHW blood pressure screening system linked to a central clinic can be a promising avenue for improving hypertension control rates in low- and middle-income countries
Edge detection on DICOM image using triangular norms in Type-2 fuzzy
In image processing, edge detection is an important venture. Fuzzy logic plays a vital role in image processing to deal with lacking in quality of an image or imprecise in nature. This present study contributes an authentic method of fuzzy edge detection through image segmentation. Gradient of the image is done by triangular norms to extract the information. Triangular norms (T norms) and triangular conorms (T conorms) are specialized in dealing uncertainty. Therefore triangular norms are chosen with minimum and maximum operators for the purpose of morphological operations. Also, mathematical properties of aggregation operator to represent the role of morphological operations using Triangular Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Yager Weighted Geometric (TIT2FYWG) and Triangular Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Yager Weighted Arithmetic (TIT2FYWA) operators are derived. These properties represent the components of image processing. Here Edge detection is done for DICOM image by converting into 2D gray scale image, using Type-2 fuzzy MATLAB and which is the novelty of this work
Electric and magnetic polarizabilities of hexagonal Ln2CuTiO6 (Ln=Y, Dy, Ho, Er and Yb)
We investigated the rare-earth transition metal oxide series, Ln2CuTiO6
(Ln=Y, Dy, Ho, Er and Yb), crystallizing in the hexagonal structure with
non-centrosymmetric P63cm space group for possible occurrences of multiferroic
properties. Our results show that while these compounds, except Ln=Y, exhibit a
low temperature antiferromagnetic transition due to the ordering of the
rare-earth moments, the expected ferroelectric transition is frustrated by the
large size difference between Cu and Ti at the B-site. Interestingly, this
leads these compounds to attain a rare and unique combination of desirable
paraelectric properties with high dielectric constants, low losses and weak
temperature and frequency dependencies. First-principles calculations establish
these exceptional properties result from a combination of two effects. A
significant difference in the MO5 polyhedral sizes for M = Cu and M = Ti
suppress the expected co-operative tilt pattern of these polyhedra, required
for the ferroelectric transition, leading to relatively large values of the
dielectric constant for every compound investigated in this series.
Additionally, it is shown that the majority contribution to the dielectric
constant arises from intermediate-frequency polar vibrational modes, making it
relatively stable against any temperature variation. Changes in the temperature
stability of the dielectric constant amongst different members of this series
are shown to arise from changes in relative contributions from soft polar

Evaluation of the accuracy, precision and validity of hydrophylic vinyl polysiloxane impression material for bite mark analysis
The present study was undertaken to assess the accuracy, precision and validity of hydrophilic Vinyl Poly Siloxane [VPS] impression material for bite mark documentation and analysis. Medium body VPS impressions of maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth among thirty subjects
were taken and dental stone casts prepared. Hollow volume overlays were made and
metric analysis was done using advanced imaging software like Adobe Photoshop - 9 and Image J. These values were compared to the measurements taken from bite mark impressions of the same 30 individuals on wax wafers using light body VPS material. The mean differences in the parameters measured by the different techniques were compared using Intra Class Correlation
Coefficients [ICCC]. Additionally validity parameters such as sensitivity, specificity,
positive and negative predictive value were computed
GALEX FUV Observations of Comet C/2004 Q2 (Machholz): The Ionization Lifetime of Carbon
We present a measurement of the lifetime of ground state atomic carbon,
C(^3P), against ionization processes in interplanetary space and compare it to
the lifetime expected from the dominant physical processes likely to occur in
this medium. Our measurement is based on analysis of a far ultraviolet (FUV)
image of comet C/2004 Q2 (Machholz) recorded by the Galaxy Evolution Explorer
(GALEX) on 2005 March 1. The bright CI 1561 A and 1657 A multiplets dominate
the GALEX FUV band. We used the image to create high S/N radial profiles that
extended beyond one million km from the comet nucleus. Our measurements yielded
a total carbon lifetime of 7.1 -- 9.6 x 10^5 s (scaled to 1 AU). Which compares
favorably to calculations assuming solar photoionization, solar wind proton
change exchange and solar wind electron impact ionization are the dominant
processes occurring in this medium and that comet Machholz was embedded in the
slow solar wind. The shape of the CI profiles inside 3x10^5 km suggests that
either the CO lifetime is shorter than previously thought and/or a
shorter-lived carbon-bearing parent molecule, such as CH_4 is providing the

Far-Ultraviolet Dust Albedo Measurements in the Upper Scorpius Cloud Using the SPINR Sounding Rocket Experiment
The Spectrograph for Photometric Imaging with Numeric Reconstruction (SPINR)
sounding rocket experiment was launched on 2000 August 4 to record
far-ultraviolet (912-1450 A) spectral and spatial information for the giant
reflection nebula in the Upper Scorpius region. The data were divided into
three arbitrary bandpasses (912-1029 A, 1030-1200 A, and 1235-1450 A) for which
stellar and nebular flux levels were derived. These flux measurements were used
to constrain a radiative transfer model and to determine the dust albedo for
the Upper Scorpius region. The resulting albedos were 0.28+/-0.07 for the
912-1029 A bandpass, 0.33+/-0.07 for the 1030-1200 A bandpass, and 0.77+/-0.13
for the 1235-1450 A bandpass
Two-photon calcium imaging during fictive navigation in virtual environments
A full understanding of nervous system function requires recording from large populations of neurons during naturalistic behaviors. Here we enable paralyzed larval zebrafish to fictively navigate two-dimensional virtual environments while we record optically from many neurons with two-photon imaging. Electrical recordings from motor nerves in the tail are decoded into intended forward swims and turns, which are used to update a virtual environment displayed underneath the fish. Several behavioral features—such as turning responses to whole-field motion and dark avoidance—are well-replicated in this virtual setting. We readily observed neuronal populations in the hindbrain with laterally selective responses that correlated with right or left optomotor behavior. We also observed neurons in the habenula, pallium, and midbrain with response properties specific to environmental features. Beyond single-cell correlations, the classification of network activity in such virtual settings promises to reveal principles of brainwide neural dynamics during behavior
Soup to tree: the phylogeny of beetles inferred by mitochondrial metagenomics of a Bornean rainforest sample
In spite of the growth of molecular ecology, systematics and next-generation sequencing, the discovery and analysis of diversity is not currently integrated with building the tree-of-life. Tropical arthropod ecologists are well placed to accelerate this process if all specimens obtained via masstrapping, many of which will be new species, could be incorporated routinely in phylogeny reconstruction. Here we test a shotgun sequencing approach, whereby mitochondrial genomes are assembled from complex ecological mixtures via mitochondrial metagenomics, and demonstrate how the approach overcomes many of the taxonomic impediments to the study of biodiversity. DNA from
~500 beetle specimens, originating from a single rainforest canopy fogging sample from Borneo, was pooled and shotgun sequenced, followed by de novo assembly of complete and partial mitogenomes for 175 species. The phylogenetic tree obtained from this local sample was highly similar to that from
existing mitogenomes selected for global coverage of major lineages of Coleoptera. When all sequences were combined, only minor topological changes are induced against this reference set, indicating an increasingly stable estimate of coleopteran phylogeny, whilst the ecological sample
expands the tip-level representation of several lineages. Robust trees generated from ecological samples now enable an evolutionary framework for ecology. Meanwhile, the inclusion of
uncharacterized samples in the tree-of-life rapidly expands taxon and biogeographic representation of lineages without morphological identification. Mitogenomes from shotgun sequencing of unsorted environmental samples and their associated metadata, placed robustly into the phylogenetic tree, constitute novel DNA ‘superbarcodes’ for testing hypotheses regarding global patterns of diversity
Bubbling and bistability in two parameter discrete systems
We present a graphical analysis of the mechanisms underlying the occurrences
of bubbling sequences and bistability regions in the bifurcation scenario of a
special class of one dimensional two parameter maps. The main result of the
analysis is that whether it is bubbling or bistability is decided by the sign
