    Evaluation of the accuracy, precision and validity of hydrophylic vinyl polysiloxane impression material for bite mark analysis

    The present study was undertaken to assess the accuracy, precision and validity of hydrophilic Vinyl Poly Siloxane [VPS] impression material for bite mark documentation and analysis. Medium body VPS impressions of maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth among thirty subjects were taken and dental stone casts prepared. Hollow volume overlays were made and metric analysis was done using advanced imaging software like Adobe Photoshop - 9 and Image J. These values were compared to the measurements taken from bite mark impressions of the same 30 individuals on wax wafers using light body VPS material. The mean differences in the parameters measured by the different techniques were compared using Intra Class Correlation Coefficients [ICCC]. Additionally validity parameters such as sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value were computed

    Measurement of the Neutron Radius of 208Pb Through Parity-Violation in Electron Scattering

    We report the first measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry A_PV in the elastic scattering of polarized electrons from 208Pb. A_PV is sensitive to the radius of the neutron distribution (Rn). The result A_PV = 0.656 \pm 0.060 (stat) \pm 0.014 (syst) ppm corresponds to a difference between the radii of the neutron and proton distributions Rn - Rp = 0.33 +0.16 -0.18 fm and provides the first electroweak observation of the neutron skin which is expected in a heavy, neutron-rich nucleus.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figur

    Study on Information need and Seeking Behavior of the Health Science Students of an Indian Deemed University

    Objective: The objective of this study was to find out the study habit of health science students by using library of SIKSHA ‘O’ ANUSANDHAN University, Bhubaneswar. Methods: All the information are collected form students of four health science institutions of this University (N=420). All data were analyzed with the help of SPSS 20 software. Results: This study found the use of e-resources for information retrieval by the students regularly or daily through internet /e-library which is higher than other retrieval process. Text, reference books and e-journals are also cited frequently by the students. Conclusions: Though popular, ordinal rankings cannot adequately describe the multidimensional nature of health science students’ attitude on seeking information. This study provides statistics that can be used in conjunction with other sound methodologies to provide a more authentic view on this matter. The large variance of the collected data suggests that refining seeking behavior by discipline, peer groups, or journal information may provide a more precise assessment

    The reaction dynamics of the 16O(e,e'p) cross section at high missing energies

    We measured the cross section and response functions (R_L, R_T, and R_LT) for the 16O(e,e'p) reaction in quasielastic kinematics for missing energies 25 <= E_miss <= 120 MeV at various missing momenta P_miss <= 340 MeV/c. For 25 < E_miss < 50 MeV and P_miss \approx 60 MeV/c, the reaction is dominated by single-nucleon knockout from the 1s1/2-state. At larger P_miss, the single-particle aspects are increasingly masked by more complicated processes. For E_miss > 60 MeV and P_miss > 200 MeV/c, the cross section is relatively constant. Calculations which include contributions from pion exchange currents, isobar currents and short-range correlations account for the shape and the transversity but only for half of the magnitude of the measured cross section.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Phys Rev Lett, formatting error fixe

    A Ring Shaped Embedded Young Stellar (Proto)Cluster

    We present sub-arcsec (FWHM ~ 0.5") J, H, K and L' images of a young stellar cluster associated with a candidate massive protostar IRAS22134+5834. The observations reveal a centrally symmetric, flattened cluster enclosing a central dark region. The central dark region is possibly a cavity within the flattened cluster. It is surrounded by a ring composed of 5 bright stars and the candidate massive protostar IRAS22134+5834. We construct JHKL' color-color and HK color-magnitude diagrams to identify the young stellar objects and estimate their spectral types. All the bright stars in the ring are found to have intrinsic infrared excess emission and are likely to be early to late B type stars. We estimate an average foreground extinction to the cluster of A_v \~ 5mag and individual extinctions to the bright stars in the range A_v ~ 20-40mag indicating possible cocoons surrounding each massive star. This ring of bright stars is devoid of any HII region. It is surrounded by an embedded cluster making this an example of a (proto)cluster that is in one of the dynamically least relaxed states. These observations are consistent with the recent non-axisymmetric calculations of Li & Nakamura, who present a star formation scenario in which a magnetically subcritical cloud fragments into multiple magnetically supercritical cores, leading to the formation of small stellar groups.Comment: 13 pages in preprint format, 3 figures, 1 tabl

    Virtual Compton Scattering and the Generalized Polarizabilities of the Proton at Q^2=0.92 and 1.76 GeV^2

    Virtual Compton Scattering (VCS) on the proton has been studied at Jefferson Lab using the exclusive photon electroproduction reaction (e p --> e p gamma). This paper gives a detailed account of the analysis which has led to the determination of the structure functions P_LL-P_TT/epsilon and P_LT, and the electric and magnetic generalized polarizabilities (GPs) alpha_E(Q^2) and beta_M(Q^2) at values of the four-momentum transfer squared Q^2= 0.92 and 1.76 GeV^2. These data, together with the results of VCS experiments at lower momenta, help building a coherent picture of the electric and magnetic GPs of the proton over the full measured Q^2-range, and point to their non-trivial behavior.Comment: version 2: modified according to PRC Editor's and Referee's recommendations.
