Lagrangian 3-torus fibrations

We prove that Mark Gross' topological Calabi-Yau compactifications can be made into symplectic compactifications. To prove this we develop a method to construct singular Lagrangian 3-torus fibrations over certain a priori given integral affine manifolds with singularities, which we call simple. This produces pairs of compact symplectic 6-manifolds homeomorphic to mirror pairs of Calabi-Yau 3-folds together with Lagrangian fibrations whose underlying integral affine structures are dual

Sulfur-enhanced thermoluminescence of γ-radiated zirconia

Sulfur-modified zirconia with various S contents have been characterized and analyzed for potential applications in dosimetry. The thermoluminescent signal induced by gamma radiation in pure zirconia and sulfated zirconia in the tetragonal phase has been considered. Experimental results show that the thermoluminescent glow peak depends on both the crystalline structure and sulfate concentration and that the response is linear for an ample range of irradiation.Зразки модифікованої сірого двоокису цирконію з різним вмістом сірки охарактеризовано і проаналізовано з точки зору потенційного застосування в дозиметрії. Розглянуто термолюмінісцентний сигнал, викликаний гамма-випромінюванням в чистому і сульфатованому двоокису цирконію в тетрагональної фазі. Експериментальні результати показують, що пік термолюмінісцентного світіння залежить як від кристалічної структури, так і від концентрації сульфату. Ця характеристика лінійна для великого діапазону опромінення.Образцы модифицированной серой двуокиси циркония с различным содержанием серы охарактеризованы и проанализированы с точки зрения потенциального применения в дозиметрии. Naranjas criollas en Colombia.

Se citan y describen las mejores variedades de naranjas criollas existentes en el país, igualmente figuran algunas consideraciones con respecto a su cultivo. Se tomaron registros individuales en 4 plantas de cada una de las especies descritas de la colección del Centro de Investigaciones Palmira (Valle del Cauca) e injertadas en patrones de limón rugoso, los datos se tomaron desde el transplante al huerto en 1957 hasta 1966. La naranja Salerma (Nativa 59) es una selección de la finca que lleva el mismo nombre, en el Municipio de Palmira, e introducida en 1934 al Centro de Investigaciones, se le ha considerado como una variedad sobresaliente para condiciones del Valle del Cauca tanto por su producción como por la calidad del jugo. La variedad Lerma fué introducida en 1955, se le considera como una de las mejores variedades, gran productora de buena calidad del fruto y muy resistente al transporte. La García Valencia (Nativa 73) es una naranja de producción tardía y libre de enfermedades virosas reconocibles, es un clon nucelar de Valencia. La naranja Palmira Ruby procede de un cruzamiento entre la Ruby y la Salerma. La variedad Galicia (Nativa 204) presenta muy poca semilla y se recomienda para el consumo como fruta fresca. La naranja Valle Washington (Valle del Cauca) se obtuvo de un cruzamiento entre las variedades Washington y Salerma, es una mutación de la Washington pero con características más sobresalientes. SYZ mirror symmetry for hypertoric varieties

We construct a Lagrangian torus fibration on a smooth hypertoric variety and a corresponding SYZ mirror variety using $T$-duality and generating functions of open Gromov-Witten invariants. Postpartum sterilization choices made by HIV-infected women.

OBJECTIVE: To assess if HIV-infected women made different choices for postpartum sterilization after implementation of the Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trials Group protocol 076 (November 1, 1994) compared to before implementation. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective cohort study in which medical records were reviewed to obtain demographic, obstetric and HIV-related data from January 1993 through December 2002. HIV-infected women who completed a pregnancy by birth or abortion were divided into two comparison groups: "Pre-076" and "Post-076". The primary outcome was sterilization by postpartum tubal ligation.Results. Forty-two women (74%) in the Pre-076 group chose sterilization compared to 139 of 310 women (45%) in the Post-076 group (unadjusted OR 3.44, 95% CI 1.83, 6.47). Seventy-one percent of women younger than 21 years of age in the Pre-076 Group chose sterilization compared with only 35% of women younger than 21 years in the Post-076 group (p = 0.0136). Similarly, 78% of primiparous women chose sterilization after their first pregnancy in the Pre-076 group, compared to 14% in the Post-076 group (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Since the implementation of PACTG 076 protocol in November 1994, fewer HIV-infected women chose postpartum sterilization. The typical woman who now chooses postpartum sterilization is less likely to be young or primiparous than those who chose sterilization before PACTG Protocol 076 implementation
