    Get PDF
This paper deals with the set of devices to mention death attested in the extant funerary epigramms by Anyte from Tegea. The analysis phocuses on (i) formal procedures to mention death; (ii) the implied content of the mentions (when relevant); and (iii) the imagery of death; the evolution of each factor from early epigramms (both literary and inscriptional) up to Anyte' s time is considered. The analysis makes it possible (i) to put forward a typology both of the procedure of the reference and of the images used, stating the relevant parameters; (ii) to state some of the principles underlying the attested devices of reference to death; (iii) to highlight the stylistic relevance of these devices, both generally, and in Anyte's extant work; (iv) to achieve a panoramic view of the evolution of the genre

The main purpose of this report is to explain how a wind turbine works. The objetives of it are: make a simulation with ANSYS of a flow through a wind turbine; the simulation have to be with ice on the blades and without ice; and to analize of the results of the simulation.Ingeniería Técnica IndustrialIndustria Ingeniaritza Tekniko

Hypercube algorithms on mesh connected multicomputers

A new methodology named CALMANT (CC-cube Algorithms on Meshes and Tori) for mapping a type of algorithm that we call CC-cube algorithm onto multicomputers with hypercube, mesh, or torus interconnection topology is proposed. This methodology is suitable when the initial problem can be expressed as a set of processes that communicate through a hypercube topology (a CC-cube algorithm). There are many important algorithms that fit into the CC-cube type. CALMANT is based on three different techniques: (a) the standard embedding to assign the processes of the algorithm to the nodes of the mesh multicomputer; (b) the communication pipelining technique to increase the level of communication parallelism inherent in the CC-cube algorithms; and (c) optimal message-scheduling algorithms proposed in this work in order to avoid conflicts and minimizing in this way the communication time. Although CALMANT is proposed for multicomputers with different interconnection network topologies, the paper only focuses on the particular case of meshes.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

A study of the communication cost of the FFT on torus multicomputers

    Get PDF
The computation of a one-dimensional FFT on a c-dimensional torus multicomputer is analyzed. Different approaches are proposed which differ in the way they use the interconnection network. The first approach is based on the multidimensional index mapping technique for the FFT computation. The second approach starts from a hypercube algorithm and then embeds the hypercube onto the torus. The third approach reduces the communication cost of the hypercube algorithm by pipelining the communication operations. A novel methodology to pipeline the communication operations on a torus is proposed. Analytical models are presented to compare the different approaches. This comparison study shows that the best approach depends on the number of dimensions of the torus and the communication start-up and transfer times. The analytical models allow us to select the most efficient approach for the available machine.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Bioprocessing of Brewers’ Spent Grain Enhances Its Antioxidant Activity: Characterization of Phenolic Compounds and Bioactive Peptides

This research was developed under the project "FUNBREW Biotransformation of brewers' spent grain: increased functionality for novel food applications" funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program under grant agreement No. 727473 (ERANet SUSFOOD2).Brewers’ spent grain (BSG) is the major by-product of the brewing industry which remain largely unutilized despite its nutritional quality. In this study, the effects of fermentation on BSG antioxidant potential were analyzed. A biotechnological protocol including the use of xylanase followed by fermentation with Lactiplantibacillus plantarum (Lactobacillus plantarum) PU1, PRO17, and H46 was used. Bioprocessed BSG exhibited enhanced antioxidant potential, characterized by high radical scavenging activity, long-term inhibition of linoleic acid oxidation and protective effect toward oxidative stress on human keratinocytes NCTC 2544. Immunolabelling and confocal laser microscopy showed that xylanase caused an extensive cell wall arabinoxylan disruption, contributing to the release of bound phenols molecules, thus available to further conversion through lactic acid bacteria metabolism. To clarify the role of fermentation on the antioxidant BSG potential, phenols were selectively extracted and characterized through HPLC-MS techniques. Novel antioxidant peptides were purified and identified in the most active bioprocessed BSG.European Union (EU) 72747

    Get PDF
This paper tries to analyse the evolution of funerary epigram, considering the specific ways of apparition of two of its structural elements (the deceased, and the offerer) in the epigrams devoted to animals by Anyte from Tegea. Along the discussion some specific issues concerning these epigrams are to be dealt with, particularly the problem about their inscriptionality. The analysis focusses on the degree of variation in Anyte's funerary epigrams with regard to the traditional epitaph (both inscriptional and literary), and the degree of variation in Anyte's (and her contemporaries') epigrams devoted to animals with regard to funerary epigrams devoted to human beings. No disponible

[EN] The project Converse memory: a subjective view from artistic practice, first analyzes the notion of autobiography as a political position and as a tool to rethink our own subjective experience in contemporary art. It reflects on the concept of memory as the capacity of a person to recall the past, related to identity and language, and subsequently used to approach the study of the representation of human disease and decline. In parallel, based on these conceptual axes, the work of various contemporary artists who work from their life experience, their intimate and / or family environments, is analyzed in order to rework and deal with these issues. Finally, the process of study, reflection and practice that has been carried out during the Master in Artistic Production is tackled, in which Alzheimer's disease has been taken as a case of study to deepen on concepts such as auto-‐biography, illness, identity, memory and narrative, from the plastic and audiovisual media.[ES] El proyecto Conversar la memoria: una mirada subjetiva desde la práctica artística analiza en primer lugar, la noción de autobiografía como posicionamiento político y como herramienta para repensar la propia experiencia subjetiva dentro del arte contemporáneo.
