Más allá de los límites: Liddell, las neurosis experimentales y el psicoanálisis

Entre 1927 y 1962, H. S. Liddell y sus colaboradores desarrollaron un extenso programa de investigación relacionado con el estudio de las neurosis experimentales en distintas especies. A partir de la década de 1940 iniciaron una serie de trabajos en torno a su prevención y fue en este último ámbito en el que lograron captar más la atención de los psicoanalistas. El grupo de Cornell centró su interés en el estudio de los primeros días de vida de los animales, analizando el papel protector de la madre durante las primeras semanas de edad. Para ello, registraron con detalle la interacción madre-cría durante el periodo inicial de la vida de ésta. La idea de fondo era contrastar una de las hipótesis más comunes acerca de la etiología de los trastornos psicológicos, la de que los daños sufridos en la infancia están entre los más graves e incapacitantes. No nos puede extrañar, por tanto, que estos estudios interesaran a los psicoanalistas porque se dirigían hacia algunos de los aspectos que ellos consideraban esenciales tanto en el desarrollo de la personalidad sana como en el surgimiento de los trastornos. Nuestro trabajo analizará este interés recíproco entre unos y otros a partir de la correspondencia que Liddell mantuvo con los psicoanalistas Leon J. Saul y René Spitz.From 1927 to 1962, H. S Liddell and his co-workers carried out an extensive research program related to the study of experimental neuroses in diQerent species. During the forties, they began a series of experiments on prevention, and this issue captured the attention of the psychoanalysts immediately. Cornell’s group focused his interest in the #rst days of life of the newborn, analyzing the protective role the mother played during her lamb’s or kid’s #rsts weeks of age. $erefore, they recorded the neonate-mother pattern of relationships in detail.$e core idea was to test one of the more ubiquitous hypotheses on the origin of psychological disturbances, namely that the most disabling and severe injuries were always found in the infancy. Obviously, these studies were of great interest to psychoanalysts since they addressed some of the factors considered as determinants in personality development and mental health. In this paper, we use archival materials, specially the correspondence between H. S. Liddell. L. J. Saul and R. Adolf Meyer, Grosvernor Atterbury y la Clínica Psiquiátrica Henry Phipps, "(…) devolviendo a la definición de hospital el significado completo de hospitalidad"

En este trabajo exploraremos la relación que para el diseño de Clínica Psiquiátrica Henry Phipps mantuvieron el psiquiatra, Adolf Meyer, y el arquitecto Grosvenor Atterbury, y como las ideas de Meyer ayudaron a Atterbury a resolver los detalles del nuevo edificio. Aunque escasamente citada en los textos de Psicología, la Clínica Phipps sigue siendo una de las instituciones más importantes para la fundación de la moderna psiquiatría y psicología clínica. Desde su inicio en 1913, gracias a la donación de millón y medio de dólares por el filántropo americano Henry Phipps, la Clínica encarnó las ideas psicobiológicas de Adolf Meyer, y en Estados Unidos, fue el primer complejo para pacientes mentales construido como parte de un hospital general, el Hospital John Hopkins. La clínica fue concebida por el arquitecto americano Grosvenor Attebury, inspirado por las ideas de Meyer. De este modo, diseñó un edificio plenamente integrado con el resto de las instalaciones del Hospital, y que permitía cumplir las tres funciones que Meyer preveía en su acercamiento psicobiológico: la investigación, la formación y la prevención. Así, la Clínica contaba con tres laboratorios, su propia biblioteca aulas y salas de conferencias y para seminarios; así como una clínica para pacientes externos. Además, Atterbury, alentado por la psicobiología de Meyer, enfatizó la importancia del entorno y de la estética en la sanación de los pacientes.In this paper, we explore the interactions between a psychiatrist, Adolf Meyer, and an architect, Grosvenor Atterbury, in the design of the Henry Phipps Psychiatric Clinic, and how the ideas of Meyer helped Atterbury to figure out the details of this new building. Although barely mentioned in the History of Psychology textbooks, Phipps Clinic still remains as one of the most important institutions for the launching of modern American psychiatry and clinical psychology. Since its inception in 1913, after the American philanthropist Henry Phipps donated one million and half dollars, Phipps Clinic embodied Adolf Meyer psychobiological ideas, and was the first inpatient facility in the States for the mental patients constructed as a part of a general hospital —the John Hopkins Hospital. This new clinic was conceived by the American architect Grosvenor Atterbury, who was inspired by Meyer’s ideas. So, Atterbury designed a building well integrated with the rest of facilities of the John Hopkins Hospital, and that permitted to accomplish the three functions that Meyer envisioned in his psychobiological approach: research, teaching and prevention. Thus, Phipps Clinic included three laboratories, library, conference hall, classrooms and seminar rooms, and an outpatient clinic as well. Do product innovation-related activities affect downsizing decisions? An organizational efficiency perspective

Firms’ innovation strategy typically involves the need to shape organizational changes within work structures and routines, even those concerning employee downsizing decisions. However, little effort has been directed toward exploring the role of firm innovation strategy as a determinant of downsizing. Drawing on organizational efficiency perspective, this study proposes a framework to examine the impact of product innovation-related activities on downsizing. The model will be tested using data from a longitudinal sample of Spanish innovative manufacturing firms. It is expected that the results show that firms developing product and process innovations are associated with downsizing decisions. Furthermore, companies that use formal protection of intellectual property through patents, utility models, trademarks and copyrights are believed to keep their personnel. The study attempt to unravel the impact of firm innovation on downsizing decisions and to offer guidance on how innovative firms might operate to control negative effects on their workforce

Diagnóstico de los servicios de alimentación frente a situaciones de emergencia de los hospitales Alemán Nicaragüense y Dr. Roberto Calderón Gutiérrez de Managua, Agosto 2015 a Enero 2016

El presente estudio es el resultado de una investigación Descriptiva de corte transversal con enfoque cualicuantitativo y con el fin de Elaborar un Diagnóstico de los Servicios de Alimentación frente a Situaciones de Emergencia de los Hospitales Alemán Nicaragüense Y Dr. Roberto Calderón Gutiérrez de la Ciudad de Managua, Agosto 2015 a Enero 2016; los objetivos del estudio se enfocan en caracterizar los aspectos generales de las Instituciones Hospitalarias, conocer el Nivel de Seguridad según su ubicación geográfica, Aplicar Índice de Seguridad según el criterio de Hospital Seguro de la OPS y describir el aspecto funcional de los Servicios de alimentación ante situaciones de desastres de los Hospitales sometidos a estudio. La investigación se llevó a cabo en los Hospitales Alemán Nicaragüense y Dr. Roberto Calderón Gutiérrez durante los meses de Agosto 2015 hasta Enero 2016. La información se obtuvo mediante entrevistas dirigidas al Director de Epidemiologia y a la Jefa del Servicio de alimentación. También se recolectó información a través de observación directa, realizada por un equipo multidisciplinario que incluyó a las responsables del estudio y profesionales de Ingeniería, con el objetivo de evaluar la parte estructural y no estructural de las Unidades de Salud incluyendo el Servicio de alimentación. Los principales hallazgos encontrados en el estudio fueron: El Hospital Dr. Roberto Calderón Gutiérrez cuenta con capacidad de 207 camas en uso. La especialidad que atienden mayormente es Medicina Interna en un 61% El Hospital Alemán Nicaragüense cuenta con una capacidad de 240 camas. La especialidad más demandada es medicina interna 26%. Las amenazas que tienen un nivel de afectación alto en el Hospital Dr. Roberto Calderón Gutiérrez son lluvias torrenciales, huracanes y sismos. En el Hospital Alemán Nicaragüense las amenazas que prevalecen son huracanes y sismos. El Índice de Seguridad de Ambos Hospitales están clasificados según el modelo matemático en la Categoría B. En cuanto a la Equivalencia en raciones y días de consumo de reserva de alimentos que existe en los Hospitales prevalece con más días el Hospital Roberto Calderón Gutiérrez

Exploring emotional responses on Twitter after the Algeciras attack on Catholic churches in 2023: Between anti-immigration discourse and sadness reactions

[EN] On 25 February, a Muslim man attacked several churches in Algeciras (Spain) and killed a sexton. After the attack, many people turned to social media, especially Twitter, to express their emotions about what had happened, send their condolences to the deceased’s family, or criticize the government, as the perpetrator was allegedly an undocumented migrant with a pending deportation order. The aim of this work is to study the emotional reactions of Twitter users who participated in conversations about the Algeciras case by applying sentiment analysis techniques. Using the academictwitteR package, more than 300,000 tweets containing the word 'Algeciras' were obtained. We then filtered out the RTs and kept 36,104 original tweets for this work. After data cleaning and tokenization, sentiment analysis was applied using the syuzhet package in R, which allowed to obtain the intensity of positive or negative sentiments and eight different emotions. The results suggest a higher prevalence of negative sentiments related to conversations about attacks, murder, or grief. The use of negative words reflects Twitter users’ emotions, which are mainly concentrated on fear, anger, and sadness. Tweets expressing these emotions also indicated signs of Islamophobia and racism towards the murderer and, by extension, other Muslim immigrants.Grant PID2021-123983OB-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by “ERDF A way of making Europe”. Solving the luxury fashion and sustainable development “oxymoron”: A cross-cultural analysis of green luxury consumption enablers and disablers

Green luxury is a promising stream in the environmental marketing and sustainable development literature. Yet, scholars are still investigating why green consumers show a positive attitude toward ethical consumption but then act inconsistently by preferring conventional products due to price or quality criteria, especially in the luxury sector. Building on Heider's balance theory, this study investigates the underlying mechanisms of green luxury consumption focusing on how consumers' psychological imbalance fosters their attitude–behavior gap. The authors used partial least squares structural equation modeling to assess the green enablers and disablers predicting consumers' purchase intention. Multigroup analysis is performed on a cross-cultural sample of 792 luxury consumers belonging to collectivistic (China) and individualistic (Italy) cultures. Moderation analysis shows how consumers' self-enhancement and self-transcendence impact the relationships between green enablers, disablers, and attitudes toward green luxury. An importance-performance map analysis is conducted to identify which aspects are most important in explaining consumers' intentions to purchase green luxury products
