    Get PDF
Abstracts: Using a sample of 10 low x-ray luminosity galaxy clusters (Nilo Castellón et al. 2013B), we studied the properties of 146 galaxies classified as members in a redshift range of 0.185 4). Contrary to these results, for late-type galaxies we found smaller C values for the lower redshift clusters. These results could be associated to the morphological evolution of galaxies, as proposed by different authors (Poggianti et al. 2009, Dressler et al. 2009) for rich clusters.Fil: Alonso, María Victoria. Indexación: ScieloAbstract: This paper describes the osteological features in the context of the structural complexes they build as a way of avoiding their separation from the morphofunctional wholes to which they belong. The posterior zone of the neurocranium is compact, and the splanchnocranium is laminar with very little cartilaginous tissue sustaining robust oral jaws. The pharyngobranchial apparatus is short anteroposteriorly and expanded laterally. The hyoid bar is small, about as long as its branchiostegal rays. The spatial relationship of the paired and unpaired fins to the vertebral column was highly constant in the specimens examined of Helcogrammoides chilensis from the Central zone of Chile. The absence of a neural spine in the first two vertebrae, a highly fused caudal complex, the urohyal with well developed lateral processes, and presence of a pelvic spine, are osteological features that contribute to the diagnosis of Helcogrammoides.

Low X-Ray Luminosity Galaxy Clusters. II. Optical properties and morphological content at 0.18 < z < 0.70

This is the second of a series of papers on low X-ray luminosity galaxy clusters, in which we present the rr^\prime, gg^\prime and ii^\prime photometry obtained with GMOS-IMAGE at Gemini North and South telescopes for seven systems in the redshift range of 0.18 to 0.70. Optical magnitudes, colours and morphological parameters, namely, concentration index, ellipticity and visual morphological classification, are also given. At lower redshifts, the presence of a well-defined red cluster sequence extending by more than 4 magnitudes showed that these intermediate-mass clusters had reached a relaxed stage. This was confirmed by the small fraction of blue galaxy members observed in the central regions of \sim 0.75 Mpc. In contrast, galaxy clusters at higher redshifts had a less important red cluster sequence. We also found that the galaxy radial density profiles in these clusters were well fitted by a single power law. At 0.18 << z << 0.70, we observed an increasing fraction of blue galaxies and a decreasing fraction of lenticulars, with the early-type fraction remaining almost constant. Overall, the results of these intermediate-mass clusters are in agreement with those for high mass clusters.Comment: 16 pages, 13 figures, 5 tables. Accepted for publication in MNRA

NTMC2T5.1 is involved in chloroplast clustering around nucleus in Nicotiana benthamiana.

Plants have developed mechanisms to protect themselves from pathogens and resist their attacks. Among these, clustering of chloroplasts around the nuclear envelope is a phenomenon that has been proposed as a general response to the perception of pathogens, such as viruses and bacteria [1]. Additionally, it has been hypothesized that chloroplast clustering could serve as an efficient way of transferring signals —such as lipids and reactive oxygen species— between these two organelles in order to induce changes in the expression of pathogen defence-related genes. Synaptotagmin-like mitochondrial-lipid-binding (SMP) domain proteins are evolutionarily conserved in eukaryotes and participate in the formation of membrane contact sites between organelles. In particular, their SMP domains allow the lipid transport between the membranes of different organelles [2]. Our group is focus on studying NTMC2T5 proteins, a group of SMP proteins, with two homologs in Arabidopsis thaliana. By transiently overexpressing AtNTMC2T5.1 and some truncated versions in Nicotiana benthamiana leaf cells, and using confocal microscopy, we have determined the subcellular localization of the encoded protein. This protein is anchored to the chloroplast outer envelope and interacts with the membranes of other organelles, like the ER and the nuclear envelope membrane [3]. Additionally, we have detected that overexpression of NTMC2T5 proteins causes a significant chloroplast clustering around nucleus, that it was not observed when overexpressing other proteins. Thus, we have estimated the contribution of its functional domains in the clustering. Our results suggest that the C-terminal hydrophobic region (HR) of AtNTMC2T5.1 is essential for this process. Moreover, our Arabidopsis ntmc2t5.1/t5.2 knock down plants showed slower growth when treated with flagelin22 and reduced chloroplast clustering when treated with H2O2.Universidad de Málaga. An index from sap flow records to schedule irrigation in super-high density olive orchards

    Get PDF
Regulated deficit irrigation (RDI), recommended for super-high density (SHD) olive orchards, requires a precise control of irrigation. Water must be supplied on the phenological stages when the plant is most sensitive to water stress, but irrigation promotes plant vigour, and excessive growth hampers management in SHD orchards. A reliable water stress indicator is needed, therefore, for the proper management of RDI. Here we present an evaluation of the performance of DEp, an index previously reported by Cuevas et al. (2012). The index is derived from sap flow measurements in RDI trees and in fully irrigated trees used as a reference. We evaluated the index during the irrigation seasons of 2011 and 2012, in an ‘Arbequina’ olive orchard with 1667 trees ha-1 close to Seville, southwest Spain. The index showed a potential for scheduling RDI strategies, although its reliability decreased on periods of fluctuating atmospheric demand. The required data analyses and data interpretation make the DEp index suitable for well-trained users only.España: Ministry of Science and innovation AGL2009-11310/AGRJunta de andalucía AGR-6456-201

A soft Take off in the direction of "Bologna"

In the 2009-10 year ten new degrees have begun to be taught at the UPM (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), which is the first group of degrees that this University will offer within the framework of the EHEA (European Higher Education Area). One of these is the Building Engineering Degree, which was implemented in September 2009 in the EUATM (Escuela de Arquitectura Técnica de Madrid). It is heir to the former 'Arquitecto Técnico' degree that will become extinct as the new degree is successively implemented. This paper unveils the strategy that the EUATM management staff has designed and is developing, so that the complex process that involves the incorporation of our School into the model of 'Bologna', takes place smoothly and with guaranteed succes
