Cryogenic bath-type heat exchangers for ultra-pure noble gas applications
Two cryogenic bath-type heat exchangers for ultra-pure noble gas applications were developed with particular emphasis on noble gas liquefaction in cryogenic distillation systems. The main objective was to construct heat exchangers for xenon from materials that do not emanate radon and that fulfill ultra-high vacuum standards. Therefore, only high-quality copper and stainless steel materials were used. Especially, large-area oxygen-free copper fins with high conductivity in a new design ensure efficient heat transfer. One bath-type Xe-Xe heat exchanger was designed with a diameter of 50 cm to achieve a xenon condensing capacity of at least 100 kg/h. In order to guarantee the necessary heat transfer between the two xenon reservoirs, this heat exchanger features a specially manufactured stainless steel flange with a copper plate welded inside. We first tested our concept on a dedicated bath-type heat exchanger with a reduced diameter of 30 cm using liquid nitrogen to liquefy the xenon. A model based on conservative assumptions such as film boiling on the nitrogen side and film condensation on the xenon side was developed and applied to caluclate the expected heat transfer for our design. We were able to demonstrate an adjustable xenon liquefaction rate of up to 113 kg/h limited only by our measurement procedure at a cooling efficiency of (0.98 ± 0.03) for the LN-Xe heat exchanger
Event structure semantics of (controlled) reversible CCS
CCSK is a reversible form of CCS which is causal, meaning that ac- tions can be reversed if and only if each action caused by them has already been reversed; there is no control on whether or when a computation reverses. We pro- pose an event structure semantics for CCSK. For this purpose we define a cat- egory of reversible bundle event structures, and use the causal subcategory to model CCSK. We then modify CCSK to control the reversibility with a rollback primitive, which reverses a specific action and all actions caused by it. To define the event structure semantics of rollback, we change our reversible bundle event structures by making the conflict relation asymmetric rather than symmetric, and we exploit their capacity for non-causal reversibility
Taxonomic classification of asteroids based on MOVIS near-infrared colors
We aim to provide a taxonomic classification for asteroids observed by
VISTA-VHS survey. We derive a method for assigning a compositional type to an
object based on its (Y-J), (J-Ks), and (H-Ks) colors. We present a taxonomic
classification for 18\,265 asteroids from the MOVIS catalog, using a
probabilistic method and the k-nearest neighbors algorithm. Because our
taxonomy is based only on NIR colors, several classes from Bus-DeMeo were
clustered into groups and a slightly different notation was used (i.e. the
superscript indicates that the classification was obtained based on the NIR
colors and the subscript indicates possible miss-identifications with other
types). Our results are compared with the information provided by the Sloan
Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE). The
two algorithms used in this study give a taxonomic type for all objects having
at least (Y-J) and (J-Ks) observed colors. A final classification is reported
for a set of 6\,496 asteroids based on the criteria that KNN and probabilistic
algorithms gave the same result, (Y-J) 0.118 and
(J-Ks)0.136. This set includes 144 bodies classified as ,
613 as , 197 as , 91 as , 440 as , 665
as , 233 as , 3\,315 as , and 798 as . We
report the albedo distribution for each taxonomic group and we compute new
median values for the main types. We found that V-type and A-type candidates
have identical size frequency distributions, but the V-types are five times
more common than the A-types. Several particular cases, such as the A-type
asteroid (11616) 1996 BQ2 and the S-type (3675) Kematsch, both in the Cybele

Event structures for the reversible early internal pi-calculus
The pi-calculus is a widely used process calculus, which models com-munications between processes and allows the passing of communication links.Various operational semantics of the pi-calculus have been proposed, which canbe classified according to whether transitions are unlabelled (so-called reductions)or labelled. With labelled transitions, we can distinguish early and late semantics.The early version allows a process to receive names it already knows from the en-vironment, while the late semantics and reduction semantics do not. All existingreversible versions of the pi-calculus use reduction or late semantics, despite theearly semantics of the (forward-only) pi-calculus being more widely used than thelate. We define piIH, the first reversible early pi-calculus, and give it a denotationalsemantics in terms of reversible bundle event structures. The new calculus is a re-versible form of the internal pi-calculus, which is a subset of the pi-calculus whereevery link sent by an output is private, yielding greater symmetry between inputsand outputs
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING TO HARVESTING PATATOES AND CARROTS EQUIPMENT
Potatoes and carrots are two plants of great importance in human life. The two vegetables are grown on increasingly large surfaces, which have led to the need to mechanize their planting, maintenance and harvesting technologies. In the continuation of the material, we will find some types of potato, carrot and root crops for both small surfaces and large and very large surfaces.The harvesting technologies of the two plants are similar, so for the types of potato or carrot picking machines (beet, onions, etc.) and leaves the crop on the furrow, the same type of machine can be used. The diversity of these harvesters is very high from one-row or two-row universal trailed to self-propelled harvesters specialized in harvesting a particular crop, which, through a single pass, can do all of the following: dislocation the harvesting material, sorting, collecting and loading them directly into containers, transport trailers or in their own hoppers with automatic downloading capabilities
Status of maturation of critical technologies and systems design: Breeding blanket
The scope of the EUFOfusion Work Package Breeding Blanket is to develop a blanket concept for the EU DEMO reactor; this includes the blanket segments inside the Vacuum Vessel and the related Tritium Extraction/Removal Systems. In the Pre-Concept Design (PCD) Phase, two concepts have been selected as candidates; a solid and a liquid breeder blanket cooled with helium and water, respectively. The design of these two blanket systems has been adapted to the DEMO plant design developed in the PCD Phase and performances assessed. A large R&D programme has been implemented with the scope to evaluate different technologies for these blankets; including the development of breeders, tritium extraction and cooling technologies, and the manufacturing of the blanket system. A major milestone in the subsequent Concept Design Phase is the final selection of the blanket concept for DEMO
Removing krypton from xenon by cryogenic distillation to the ppq level
The XENON1T experiment aims for the direct detection of dark matter in a
cryostat filled with 3.3 tons of liquid xenon. In order to achieve the desired
sensitivity, the background induced by radioactive decays inside the detector
has to be sufficiently low. One major contributor is the -emitter
Kr which is an intrinsic contamination of the xenon. For the XENON1T
experiment a concentration of natural krypton in xenon Kr/Xe < 200
ppq (parts per quadrillion, 1 ppq = 10 mol/mol) is required. In this
work, the design of a novel cryogenic distillation column using the common
McCabe-Thiele approach is described. The system demonstrated a krypton
reduction factor of 6.410 with thermodynamic stability at process
speeds above 3 kg/h. The resulting concentration of Kr/Xe < 26 ppq
is the lowest ever achieved, almost one order of magnitude below the
requirements for XENON1T and even sufficient for future dark matter experiments
using liquid xenon, such as XENONnT and DARWIN
Information science and cognitive psychology: a theoretical approach
Information, as a human and social phenomenon, is the object of study of an emergent scientific field named Information Science (IS), which we put forward as unitary and transdisciplinary and open to a rich interdisciplinarity with other fields of knowledge. In face of the new reality, baptized the Information Society', and the emergence of a new paradigm, that we name "post-custodial, scientific and informational", as opposed to the previous one, "historicist, custodial and technicist", it is urgent to consolidate the theoretical and methodological foundations of IS in order to develop research, both pure and applied, and to contribute to a definition of its boundaries as a scientific area, in the scope of Social Sciences. Starting from an operative definition of Information, this paper aims to discuss the cognitive and emotional dimension of the info-communicational phenomenon and, for that, it is crucial to start a profound and hard dialogue with Cognitive Sciences. The label of 'cognitivist' given, in IS literature, to some authors like Bertram Brookes, because of the emphasis he put on the passage from a state of knowledge to a new state through an addition of knowledge coming from an increase of information, sounds quite equivocal, because knowledge and cognition are not synonymous and cognitive and emotional activity is not reducible to formalities. It is necessary to compare concepts and to understand the neuropsychological roots of the production, the organization and the info-communicational behaviour, so the contribution of Neurosciences and Cognitive Sciences, namely Cognitive Psychology, is indispensable
