Time varying fiscal policy in the U.S.

To investigate the time heterogeneity effects of fiscal policy in the U.S., we use a non-recursive, Blanchard and Perotti-like structural VAR with time-varying parameters, estimated through Bayesian simulation over the 1965:2-2009:2 period. Our evidence suggests that fiscal policy has lost some capacity to stimulate output but that this trend is more pronounced for taxes net of transfers than for government expenditure, whose effectiveness declines only slightly. Fiscal multipliers keep conventional signs throughout. An investigation of changes in fiscal policy conduct indicates an increase in the countercyclical activism of net taxes over time, which appears to have reached a maximum during the 2008-09 recession.Fiscal policy, Bayesian estimation, Structural change, Macroeconomic stabilization

Exploring the relation between consumer motivations & engagement with brands in Facebook

This thesis aims to explore the digital consumer behavior and proposes a conceptual framework that allows to comprehend the consumer’s Motivations and Engagement types to interact with brands in Facebook. Specifically, the research goal is to explore the relationship between the two and point out which Motivations better explain Engagement. Lastly, the analysis consists of segmenting Facebook users based on their Motivations and exploring their Engagement levels. The present research addresses the Portuguese Facebook users’ behavior based on Motivational and Engagement variables. Those were chosen with the intention of recognizing their importance in this context and exploring the connection between both. Scales from previous literatures were adapted and used to explore the Motivations, Enginkaya and Yilmaz (2014), and the Engagement, Malciute (2012). A quantitative and exploratory study was conducted and an online questionnaire was applied to a convenience sample of 350 Facebook users. Results indicated that the main Motivations to interact with brands in Facebook are Opportunity Seeking, Conversation and Entertainment. Moreover, the main Consumer Engagement dimension is Emotional. Further, there is a significant relation between Motivations and Engagement, and the Motivations that better help to predict Engagement are Brand Affiliation, Entertainment and Investigation. Moreover, three segments of Facebook users were identified and the main one presents the highest Engagement levels. The framework might serve as a tool for managers to better understand Facebook users’ behaviors regarding brands, thus enabling them to improve the allocation of digital resources, especially regarding Facebook and their marketing strategies with a suitable segmentation approach.Esta tese tem como objetivo explorar o comportamento do consumidor digital e propõe um quadro conceptual que visa facilitar a compreensão das Motivações que levam o consumidor a interagir com as marcas no “Facebook” e o seu “Engagement”. A intenção fulcral desta pesquisa é investigar a relação entre Motivações e “Engagement” e realçar as Motivações que melhor explicam o “Engagement”. O propósito final é segmentar os usuários de “Facebook” consoante as suas Motivações e explorar o seu nível de “Engagement”. A presente pesquisa relativa aos usuários do “Facebook” portugueses tem como base variáveis de Motivação e “Engagement”, sendo que as mesmas foram retiradas e adaptadas do estudo de Enginkaya e Yilmaz (2014) e do de Malciute (2012), respetivamente. Estas variáveis foram selecionadas com a finalidade de verificar a sua importância neste contexto e explorar a relação entre ambas. Um estudo quantitativo e exploratório foi elaborado. Foi aplicado um questionário “online” a uma amostra de 350 usuários de “Facebook”. Os resultados indicam que as principais Motivações são: Procura de Oportunidades, Conversacional e Entretenimento. Relativamente ao “Engagement” a dimensão com maior relevância é a Emocional. Os resultados comprovam a relação entre Motivações e “Engagement” e destacam a Filiação às Marcas, o Entretenimento e a Investigação como sendo as Motivações, que melhor explicam o “Engagement”. O quadro conceptual poderá assim servir como ferramenta para que as marcas compreendam o comportamento do consumidor “facebookiano”, tornando mais eficientes a alocação de recursos “online” e estratégias de marketing com uma boa abordagem de segmentação

Transcendência na cinantropologia de Manuel Sérgio

This article seeks to analyze the contribution of Portuguese philosopher Manuel Sergio to Religious Studies. The author dedicated his long academic life to the study of sports, but with a peculiar humanistic perspective. Instead of focusing on performance, the author focuses on the Human being who moves. This is what he defines as "Kinanthropology". Transcendence is a major element in this proposal. In this article, after presenting Sergio's fundamental anthropological framework and his understanding of "human kinetics", three of his possible theoretical contributions to Religious Studies are explored: 1. in the way he sees the relation between transcendence and religion; 2. in the way he opens corporeity to transcendence; and 3. in the way he seems to rehabilitate motion as a topic for religious and theological discourse.Este artigo investiga o contributo do filósofo português Manuel Sérgio para as Ciências da Religião. O autor dedicou a sua longa vida académica ao estudo do desporto, mas com uma perspectiva humanística peculiar. Em vez de se focar na performance, foca-se no ser humano que se move. É isto que Manuel Sérgio propõe como cinantropologia. A transcendência é um elemento decisivo desta proposta. Trilho matemático digital com o MathCityMap: um estudo no 6.º ano de escolaridade no domínio da Geometria

Relatório Final de Prática de Ensino Supervisionada do Mestrado em Ensino do 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico e de Matemática e Ciências Naturais no 2º Ciclo do Ensino Básico apresentado na Escola Superior de Educação do Instituto Politécnico de Viana do CasteloEste relatório foi desenvolvido no âmbito da unidade curricular de Prática de Ensino Supervisionada, no curso de Mestrado em Ensino do 1º CEB e de Matemática e Ciências Naturais no 2º CEB. O relatório encontra-se dividido em três partes: a primeira focada nos contextos educativos, onde seriam realizadas as intervenções didáticas, relatando acontecimentos importantes no decorrer deste percurso; a segunda parte, apresenta-se um estudo que seria realizado numa turma do 2º CEB na área disciplinar de Matemática; e na terceira parte, é retratada uma reflexão global sobre as experiências vividas na unidade curricular de Prática de Ensino Supervisionada. O estudo referido anteriormente, seria realizado numa turma do 6º ano de escolaridade, com 18 alunos, no âmbito da disciplina de Matemática. Pretendia-se compreender o modo como alunos do 6º ano de escolaridade mobilizam conhecimentos de Geometria na realização de um trilho matemático com a aplicação MathCityMap. Neste sentido, foram formuladas duas questões orientadoras: (1) Como se caracteriza o desempenho dos alunos na resolução de tarefas da Geometria num trilho matemático com a aplicação MathCityMap?; e (2) Que atitudes evidenciam os alunos na realização de um trilho matemático com a aplicação MathCityMap? Optou-se por uma metodologia de investigação de natureza qualitativa, designado estudo de caso. Tendo em conta a situação pandémica imposta pela COVID- 19, não foi possível realizar a recolha de dados, apesar de todos os procedimentos terem sido planeados. A recolha de dados envolveria toda a turma, mas seria focada em dois grupos de alunos. Os dados seriam recolhidos através de questionários, entrevistas, documentos, observações e registos audiovisuais. Estes métodos de recolha de dados, iriam permitir que o investigador analisasse de forma mais detalhada os aspetos relacionados com o desempenho e as atitudes dos alunos. De um modo geral, tendo em conta que não foi possível implementar este estudo, procurou-se discutir expectativas com base no trabalho que foi planeado, tendo como referência a literatura destacada neste relatório.This report was developed within the scope of the Supervised Teaching Practice curricular unit, in the Masters course in Teaching at the 1st cycle and in Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the 2nd cycle. The report is divided into three parts: the first focused on the educational contexts, where the didactical interventions would be carried out, reporting important events along this path; the second part presents a study that would be carried out in a class from the 2nd cycle in the subject area of Mathematics; and the third part, portrays a global reflection on the experiences in the curricular unit of Supervised Teaching Practice. The above mentioned study, would be carried out in a 6th grade class ling, with 18 students, within the scope of the subject of Mathematics. It was intended to understand the way 6th grade students apply Geometry knowledge in a math trial vising the application MathCityMap. In this sense, two guiding questions were formulated:(1) How is the performance of students characterized when solving Geometry on a math trail using MathCityMap?; and (2) What attitudes do the students show when carrying out a math trail using MathCityMap? We chose a qualitative research methodology, focusing on a case study. Taking into account the pandemic situation imposed by COVID-19, it was not possible to carry out the data collection. This data collection would involve all the students, but it would two groups of students. Data would be collected through questionnaires, interviews, documents, observations and audiovisual records. The data collection methods would allow the researcher to analyze in more detail all the aspects related to the student’s performance and attitudes. In general, taking into account that this study was not possible to implement, we tried to discuss expectations based on the work that was planned, compared with the literature highlighted in this report

Utilização do Podcast num site de apoio ao estudo da Matemática : uma experiência no ensino secundário

Nesta comunicação vamos apresentar uma experiência de utilização do podcast num site de apoio ao estudo da Matemática por duas turmas de 11º ano de escolaridade de uma escola secundária do norte de Portugal. O estudo fundamenta-se numa lógica de extensão comunicativa da sala de aula, disponibilização de sessões explicativas da resolução de exercícios preparatórios para os testes de avaliação da disciplina. Para efeitos da avaliação da experiência os alunos responderam a um questionário. Os resultados mostram diferenças na utilização do site por parte dos alunos das duas turmas derivadas de diferentes condições de acesso à Internet; que os conteúdos disponibilizados foram importantes para a aprendizagem; que o podcast é o recurso mais valorizado e utilizado pelos alunos no apoio ao estudo; por último, que a maioria dos alunos gostaria de utilizar estes recursos na sala de aula

Histology for the visually impaired: A study applying models at Universities in Spain and Brazil

This study aimed to develop models that reproduce histological slide images and evaluate them with blind and sighted students from an inclusion perspective. A questionnaire with questions about the ideal characteristics of a model was answered by visually impaired (VI) students. Based on the responses and optical microscopy images from histological atlases, nine models were constructed with standardized materials. The models were tested at different times with VI students and with students who see. Our results indicate that morphology teaching, according to the students themselves, should make use of extra resources, such as models. The ideal characteristics for model efficiency as a teaching tool were representative textures and reliefs. The models built were evaluated by blind students in Spain and sighted students in Brazil because, from an inclusive perspective, it is ideal that the same material can meet the demands of all types of students. The use of the developed models enhanced learning in both groups, even when combined with microscopes for sighted students. According to student opinions, the use of relief models can represent an important pedagogical strategy used to teach morphological. The importance of developing that materials was also highlighted from an inclusion perspective, as these materials can be used in mixed classes, all students together, in cooperative learning. An efficient adaptive data-link-layer architecture for LoRa networks

LoRa is one of the most popular low-power wireless network technologies for implementation of the Internet of Things, with the advantage of providing long-range communication, but lower data rates, when compared with technologies such as Zigbee or Bluetooth. LoRa is a single-channel physical layer technology on top of which LoRaWAN implements a more complex multi-channel network with enhanced functionalities, such as adaptive data rate. However, LoRaWAN relies on expensive hardware to support these functionalities. This paper proposes a LoRa data-link-layer architecture based on a multi-layer star network topology that adapts relevant LoRa parameters for each end node dynamically taking into account its link distance and quality in order to balance communication range and energy consumption. The developed solution is comprised of multiple components, including a LoRa parameter calculator to help the user to configure the network parameters, a contention-free MAC protocol to avoid collisions, and an adaptive spreading factor and transmission power mechanism. Projeto de uma Casa de Férias em Ofir. Ato Experimental

O termo vilegiatura já é conhecido desde épocas antigas. Se, inicialmente, o ato de ir de férias era praticado por questões terapêuticas, agora, é para criar uma rotura na vida quotidiana. Por isso, a intenção deste ensaio foi estudar como a arquitetura pode proporcionar este hábito. Num primeiro momento do ensaio, procurou-se entender o significado da palavra vilegiatura, estando esta associada a um hábito já praticado há muitos anos. Na sequência, surge um breve entendimento sobre o que é uma casa de férias - segunda habitação. De seguida, ao analisar algumas estâncias, percebem-se os fatores pelos quais estas evoluíram. Após esse entendimento, analisou-se o local, onde mais à frente aparecerá uma proposta de uma casa de férias. Num segundo momento, investigaram-se várias referências arquitetónicas que auxiliaram o desenvolvimento da proposta. Este estudo reflete soluções que vão de encontro ao que se pretende realizar a seguir, nomeadamente, que consigam apoiar o pensamento implícito na proposta. Por último, elaborou-se uma proposta para a zona de Ofir. Tirando partido dos casos de referência acima estudados, foram aplicados os pontos de interesse de cada casa no projeto. Através desse estudo e com a elaboração do projeto, procurou-se responder de modo eficaz e assertivo às necessidades que o tema coloca.The term vilegiatura has been known since old times. If, initially, the act of going on vacation was made for therapeutic reasons, now, is to create a break in everyday life. That is why, the intention of this essay was to study how architecture can provide this habit. In a first moment of this essay, it tried to understand the meaning of the word vilegiatura, as being associated with an old habit. In sequence, a brief understanding of what is a vacation home emerges - second home. Afterwards, by analyzing some resorts, the reasons by which they evolved were understood. After this understanding, the location where later will appear a proposal for vacation home, was analyzed. In a second moment, were studied several architectural references that helped the development of the proposal. That study reflects solutions that go towards what is intended to be done next, namely, that can support the implicit thinking in the proposal. Finally, a proposal for Ofir was made. Taking advantage from the reference cases studied above, some points of interest were applied in the project. Through this study and with the elaboration of the project, it was intended to respond effectively and assertively to the needs that the theme brings
