Very Low-Mass Stellar and Substellar Companions to Solar-Like Stars from MARVELS I: A Low Mass Ratio Stellar Companion to TYC 4110-01037-1 in a 79-day Orbit
TYC 4110-01037-1 has a low-mass stellar companion, whose small mass ratio and
short orbital period are atypical amongst solar-like (Teff ~< 6000 K) binary
systems. Our analysis of TYC 4110-01037-1 reveals it to be a moderately aged
(~<5 Gyr) solar-like star having a mass of 1.07 +/- 0.08 MSun and radius of
0.99 +/- 0.18 RSun. We analyze 32 radial velocity measurements from the
SDSS-III MARVELS survey as well as 6 supporting radial velocity measurements
from the SARG spectrograph on the 3.6m TNG telescope obtained over a period of
~2 years. The best Keplerian orbital fit parameters were found to have a period
of 78.994 +/- 0.012 days, an eccentricity of 0.1095 +/- 0.0023, and a
semi-amplitude of 4199 +/- 11 m/s. We determine the minimum companion mass (if
sin i = 1) to be 97.7 +/- 5.8 MJup. The system's companion to host star mass
ratio, >0.087 +/- 0.003, places it at the lowest end of observed values for
short period stellar companions to solar-like (Teff ~< 6000 K) stars. One
possible way to create such a system would be if a triple-component stellar
multiple broke up into a short period, low q binary during the cluster
dispersal phase of its lifetime. A candidate tertiary body has been identified
in the system via single-epoch, high contrast imagery. If this object is
confirmed to be co-moving, we estimate it would be a dM4 star. We present these
results in the context of our larger-scale effort to constrain the statistics
of low mass stellar and brown dwarf companions to FGK-type stars via the

The Swift Ultra-Violet/Optical Telescope
The UV/Optical Telescope (UVOT) is one of three instruments flying aboard the
Swift Gamma-ray Observatory. It is designed to capture the early (approximately
1 minute) UV and optical photons from the afterglow of gamma-ray bursts in the
170-600 nm band as well as long term observations of these afterglows. This is
accomplished through the use of UV and optical broadband filters and grisms.
The UVOT has a modified Ritchey-Chretien design with micro-channel plate
intensified charged-coupled device detectors that record the arrival time of
individual photons and provide sub-arcsecond positioning of sources. We discuss
some of the science to be pursued by the UVOT and the overall design of the

Topology of random 2-complexes
We study the Linial–Meshulam model of random two-dimensional simplicial complexes. One of our main results states that for p≪n −1 a random 2-complex Y collapses simplicially to a graph and, in particular, the fundamental group π 1(Y) is free and H 2(Y)=0, asymptotically almost surely. Our other main result gives a precise threshold for collapsibility of a random 2-complex to a graph in a prescribed number of steps. We also prove that, if the probability parameter p satisfies p≫n −1/2+ϵ , where ϵ>0, then an arbitrary finite two-dimensional simplicial complex admits a topological embedding into a random 2-complex, with probability tending to one as n→∞. We also establish several related results; for example, we show that for p<c/n with c<3 the fundamental group of a random 2-complex contains a non-abelian free subgroup. Our method is based on exploiting explicit thresholds (established in the paper) for the existence of simplicial embeddings and immersions of 2-complexes into a random 2-complex
O docente de enfermagem e sua representação sobre a formação profissional La representación del docente de enfermería sobre su formación profesional The nursing professor and their representation about the professional formation
Trata-se de uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, cujo objetivo foi identificar a representação do docente sobre a formação do enfermeiro. Foram entrevistados 22 enfermeiros docentes do curso de graduação em Enfermagem de duas instituições de ensino superior da cidade de Curitiba. Os preceitos éticos foram respeitados, e o projeto foi aprovado pelo Comitê do Setor de Ciências de Saúde da Universidade Federal do Paraná. As entrevistas foram gravadas e transcritas, e os relatos, analisados por meio técnica da Análise de Conteúdo. O tema que emergiu dos discursos foi: A representação do perfil do enfermeiro formado pela instituição. Este tema possibilitou a composição de três categorias: enfermeiro crítico-reflexivo, humanista e autônomo. Consideramos que a representação dos docentes sobre a formação do enfermeiro afasta-os cada vez mais do paradigma tradicional, aproximando-os do paradigma emergente que propõe a metodologia do aprender a aprender, e que suas representações estão ancoradas na legislação vigente e na missão da universidade: ensino, pesquisa e extensão.<br>Tratase de una investigación de naturaleza cualitativa, cuyo objetivo fue identificar la representación del docente en la formación del enfermero. Fueron entrevistados 22 enfermeros docentes del curso de graduación en Enfermería de dos instituciones de educación superior de la ciudad de Curitiba (Brasil). Were interviewed 22 teaching nurses of the course of graduation in Nursing of two institutions of superior education of the city of Curitiba (Brazil). The ethics precepts were respected, and the project was approved by the Committee of the Sector of Sciences of Health of the Federal University of the Paraná (Brazil). The interviews were recorded and transcribing, and the reports, analyzed by the technique of the Analysis of Content. The theme that emerged of the speeches was: The representation of the profile of the nurse formed by the institution. This theme made possible the composition of three categories: critical-reflexive nurse, humanistic and autonomous worker. We consider that the representation of the professors about the formation of the nurse more moves them away from the traditional paradigm, approaching them of the emergent paradigm that considers the methodology of learning to learn, and that their representations are anchored in the current law and in the mission of the university: education, research and extension
O tema violência intrafamiliar na concepção dos formadores dos profissionais de saúde Domestic violence in the conception of health professionals trainers
Este artigo tem o objetivo de identificar as concepções e sugestões dos docentes de graduação de medicina e enfermagem sobre a inserção do tema violência intrafamiliar na formação dos alunos. Realizou-se uma pesquisa exploratória aplicando-se questionário a coordenadores de disciplinas de universidades públicas e particulares desses cursos nas cidades do Rio de Janeiro e de Cuiabá. A maioria dos professores reconhece a violência como problema de saúde, embora 40,7% da medicina e 71,1% da enfermagem nas duas cidades a abordem em suas aulas. Docentes de medicina sugerem a inserção transversal do tema na formação dos alunos por meio de visitas a instituições, grupos de encontro com pessoas em situação de violência e entrevista com profissionais experientes no tema. Os de enfermagem apostam em recursos como filmes e vídeos, seminários e conferências. Identificaram-se lacunas na formação dos alunos e dos professores que não se sentem capacitados para discutir a temática da violência. Indica-se necessidade de mudanças urgentes nos currículos desses cursos.<br>This article identifies the conceptions and suggestions of professors of medicine and nursing courses about the insertion of this subject in the formation of their students. An exploratory research was carried out using a questionnaire applied to coordinators of disciplines in such courses at public and private universities in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Cuiabá. Many of them recognizes violence as a health problem, although 40.7% of medicine professors and 71.1% of nursing professors of the two cities discusses this subject in their classes. The medicine professors suggests the insertion of the violence subject in their students formation with visits to institutions, meeting groups with people in violence situations and interviews with experienced professionals of the area. The nursing professors prefer resources such as films and videos, seminaries and conferences. Gaps were also identified in the students and professors formation, which do not feel able to discuss this thematic. It is indicated that a renovation in the curriculum is urgently necessary
