A festival in the Rio suburbs: persons and things surrounding Cosmas and Damian

This essay provides a photo-ethnographic description of the Cosmas and Damian festivities in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, focusing on the processes involved in producing the offerings and mobilizing families and neighbourhoods, as well as the characteristic spatial dynamics of the gift exchanges that unfold in this context.Este ensaio visa uma descrição fotoetnográfica dos festejos de Cosme e Damião nos subúrbios do Rio de Janeiro, enfocando os processos de produção das ofertas, mobilização de famílias e vizinhanças, bem como as dinâmicas espaciais características das trocas-dádivas ocorridas neste contexto. Estes festejos misturam tradições religiosas católicas e de origem africana (umbanda e candomblé) – o que se nota nas práticas, discursos e nos materiais (doces, roupas, imagens) enfocados no ensaio, bem como em uma certa noção de infância que se desdobra a partir das ofertas de doces características da data. Por meio de uma apresentação reflexiva da captura de fotografias realizada em torno do dia 27 de setembro de 2015, este trabalho visa mostrar, em textos e imagens, como se “faz uma festa”, e quais as operações espaciais e interativas confluem neste evento religioso

Uma interpretação do poema de Parmênides a partir da filosofia itálica e da tradição mítica arcaica

Dissertação (mestrado)—Universidade de Brasília, Instituto de Ciências Humanas, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Filosofia, 2013.O coração desta dissertação consiste na defesa de que o discurso sobre o eón de Parmênides (sua ontologia) fora construído a partir das reflexões anteriores (i) sobre o theós (a teologia de Homero, de Hesíodo, de Pitágoras e de Xenófanes) e (ii) sobre a natureza (a física dos primeiros filósofos). Defendemos que Parmênides dividiu a sua reflexão sobre a realidade em dois domínios discursivos: o domínio lógico, abstrato e dedutivo do lógos; e o domínio especulativo, empírico e indutivo da dóxa. E defendemos que estes domínios coincidem com os domínios cosmológicos da sua theá que buscaremos mostrar ser Theía, a Visão, quais sejam: o domínio da contemplação e o domínio da observação. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThe core of this dissertation consists on the defense that the discourse on the Eon of Parmenides (its ontology) was built from the foregoing reflections (i) on theos (the theology of Homer, Hesiod, Pythagoras and Xenophanes) and (ii) on the nature (physics of the early philosophers). We argue that Parmenides split his reflections on the reality in two discursive domains: the logic, deductive and abstract domain of the logos, and the speculative, empirical and inductive domain of the doxa. And we argue that these domains coincide with the areas of its cosmological thea, which we'll endevour to show it to be theia, the Vision, which are: the domain of contemplation and the domain of observation

Interfaces Híbridas: armas e armadilhas de caça e pesca no alto Rio Negro

O presente trabalho enfoca as relações entre humanos, artefatos, animais e o território no alto rio Negro, noroeste da Amazônia brasileira. Partindo de uma etnografia feita junto aos Baniwa-Hohodeni, o texto articula dados advindos de outros povos e analisa as tecnologias de caça e pesca na região. No contexto destas atividades, armas e armadilhas envolvidas nestas técnicas serão tomados como objetos privilegiados de análise. De um lado, estes artefatos e conhecimentos técnicos serão descritos como objetificações do conhecimento territorial e etológico dos Baniwa; de outro, eles serão analisados a partir da noção de "comunicação não-verbal" e das interações entre humanos e não-humanos características da região.Palavras-chave: Cultura Material e Tecnologia, Caça e Pesca, Territorialidade, Baniwa, alto rio Negro.Hybrid Interfaces: guns and traps for hunting and fishing on the upper Rio NegroAbstractThe present work focuses on the relationships between humans, artifacts, animals and territory in the upper Rio Negro, in northwestern Brazilian Amazonia. Based on an ethnography of the Baniwa-Hohodeni, the text musters comparative data from other  peoples of the upper Rio Negro in an analysis of hunting and fishing technologies in the region. In the context of these activities, my analysis will privilege the weapons and traps entangled in these techniques. On the one hand, these artifacts and technical knowledge will be described as objectifications of the territorial and ethological knowledge of the Baniwa. On the other, they will be analyzed through the notion of "non-verbal communication" and the interactions between humans and nonhumans that are characteristic of the region.Keywords: Material Culture and Technology. Distribution, Emphasis and Possible Interactions among Tourism Research Centres in Mercosul

The aim of this paper is to presente an overview about the existence and the likely interactions of Tourism Research Centres (TRC) among the Mercosul countries, as a prerequisite of innovations in tourism field. It was used a quantitative and qualitative method of analysis. As a result it was found an asymmetrical distribution of TRC between the countries, with nonspecific emphasis and no relation to each other. In this regard the institutionalization stage of knowledge production in tourism, as a precondition of its development, is still incipient

ULTRASOUND AND WATER IMMERSION TO PROMOTING VIGOR IN SEEDS AND SEEDLINGS OF Cnidoscolus quercifolius

Cnidoscolus quercifolius is a common plant species with multiple uses from Brazilian semiarid area (BSA). Their seeds have dormancy. Fact that needs to be resolved in favor of the growing demand to produce seedlings of this species, mainly for the recovery of degraded areas in BSA. Non-acidic technologies such as water immersion and ultrasound are testing to promote uniform emergence and vigor for seeds and seedlings for many species. The objective of this paper was to test ultrasound and immersion in water as technique to promoter vigor and emergence in seeds and seedlings of C. quercifolius. Seeds of C. quercifolius were submitted to treatments using a 2 x 4 factorial scheme [F1 - Immersion in water for 24 h (without and with immersion) and F2 - time of exposure to ultrasound (0, 90, 180 and 270 s)], after they were sown in a bed and analyzed for 21 days with emergence and vigor measurements. Immersion in water for 24 hours is an efficient treatment to improve the vigor and emergence of C. quercifolius seeds and seedlings

ULTRASOUND FOR OVERCOMING DORMANCY OF FABACEAE SEEDS FROM BRAZILIAN DRY SEASONAL FOREST

The overcoming dormancy of Fabaceae seeds from the Brazilian Dry Seasonal Forest were realized with non-sustainable technologies (acid or physical treatments). Ultrasound waves can be a sustainable alternative and innovation to these technologies cited. Then, this research aims at the evaluation of ultrasound waves overcoming dormancy in seeds from Brazilian Dry Seasonal Forest. For this purpose, the following species were tested: Mimosa tenuiflora, Pityrocarpa moniliformis, Sesbania virgata, and Vachellia farnesiana. The seeds were previously immersed in distilled water for 24 hours before treatment, then divided into five treatments and submitted to 0, 90, 180, 270, or 360 seconds [25.0 ± 2.0ºC and 42 kHz frequency] and sown in the nursery. Variables of emergence and vigor in seeds and seedlings and descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation were analyzed to analyze the data obtained. The use of ultrasound (frequency of 42 kHz) in different periods of exposition (0, 90, 180, 270, or 360 s) did not promote uniformity of emergence and vigor in seeds and seedlings of M. tenuiflora, P. moniliformis, S. virgata, and V. farnesiana. Other protocols based on this research can be carried out to improve the forest management of species

OPERATIONAL CYCLE OF FIRE SAFETY IN THE GOIÁS MILITARY FIRE DEPARTMENT

A realização de atividades de investigação e perícia de incêndio está presente em vinte das vinte e sete unidades da federação e vêm mostrando resultados positivos em alguns Corpos de Bombeiros, como nos de Santa Catarina, Espírito Santo e Distrito Federal. Nesta senda, o objetivo deste trabalho é compreender de que forma a gestão dos dados, coletados na realização de perícias de incêndio realizadas pelos bombeiros militares goianos, pode resultar na produção de conhecimentos científicos que possam subsidiar os gestores institucionais nos processos e tomadas de decisões aplicadas à efetivação do Ciclo Operacional de Segurança Contra Incêndio em Goiás. Para tanto, foram desenvolvidos estudos bibliográficos em artigos científicos, legislações, manuais e documentações institucionais voltadas às temáticas aqui tratadas, associada à pesquisa de campo, por meio do encaminhamento de questionários aos Corpos de Bombeiros de todas as unidades da Federação a fim de obter informações afetas à atividade de investigação e perícia de incêndio, assim como ao ciclo completo de segurança contra incêndio em suas respectivas instituições. Também foram analisados os dados e informações já constantes no modelo de formulário pericial de incêndio utilizado pelos bombeiros goianos, com vistas a corroborar e estruturar este estudo. Inferiu-se a importância do serviço de perícia de incêndio na obtenção de informações científicas sobre os sinistros e, a partir dos resultados encontrados, foram propostas ações para o aperfeiçoamento desta atividade institucional, fato que possui potencial de contribuir significativamente para a melhoria dos serviços que a Corporação presta.La realización de actividades de investigación e investigación de incendios está presente en 20 de 27 estados de la federación y ha mostrado resultados positivos en algunos Cuerpos de Bomberos, como los de Santa Catarina, Espírito Santo y Distrito Federal. De esta forma, el objetivo de este trabajo es comprender cómo la gestión de los datos, recolectados en la actuación de las investigaciones de incendios realizadas por los bomberos militares de Goiás, puede resultar en la producción de conocimiento científico que pueda subsidiar a los gestores institucionales en los procesos y la toma de decisiones aplicó la eficacia del Ciclo Operativo de Seguridad contra Incendios en Goiás. Realizaron estudios bibliográficos en artículos científicos, legislación, manuales y documentación institucional, asociados a la investigación de campo, mediante el envío de cuestionarios a los Cuerpos de Bomberos de todas las unidades de la Federación con el fin de obtener información relacionada con la lucha contra incendios. investigación y pericia, así como el ciclo completo de seguridad contra incendios en sus instituciones. También se analizaron datos e informaciones ya contenidas en el modelo de peritaje de incendios utilizado por los bomberos de Goiás, con el fin de corroborar y estructurar este estudio. Se infirió la importancia del servicio de investigación de incendios en la obtención de información científica sobre los siniestros y, con base en los resultados encontrados, se propusieron acciones para mejorar esta actividad institucional, hecho que tiene el potencial de contribuir significativamente a la mejora de los servicios que el Corporación proporciona.Twenty of the twenty-seven units of the federation carry out investigation and fire expertise activities and have been showing positive results in some Fire Departments, such as those in Santa Catarina, Espírito Santo and Distrito Federal. In this way, the objective of this work is to understand how the management of data, collected in the execution of fire expertise carried out by the military firefighters of Goiás, can result in the production of scientific knowledge that can support institutional managers in the processes and decision-making applied implementation of the Fire Safety Operational Cycle in Goiás. Then was made bibliographic about the themes discussed here, associated with field research through the submission of questionnaires to the Fire Departments of all country related to the activity of fire investigation. The content of the fire expert form model used by firefighters in Goiás was also analyzed. It was concluded that the fire expertise service is important in obtaining scientific information about accidents and, based on the results found, actions were proposed to improve this institutional activity, a fact that has the potential to significantly contribute to the improvement of services that the Corporation provides

Prolegomena to Plato’s critique of poetry in the Republic

O objetivo deste ensaio é situar a crítica de Platão à poesia na República nas suas bases conceituais implícitas, dando visibilidade para importantes aspectos postulados ab anteriori à crítica. A motivação teológica da defesa e da apreensão de Díke na sua manifestação formal, nos níveis individual e político, conduz ao exame de um morfismo entre as partes da psyché e da pólis. O princípio da insuficiência dos elementos da pólis aplicado à psyché conduz a uma apreciação mais positiva da parte concupiscente da alma. Todavia, essa mesma parte da alma é responsável pela introdução do luxo. E é o luxo na alma do indivíduo, ou na pólis, o responsável pela necessidade da defesa e de um governo para a gestão de um agregado de dimensão ampla. Em uma psyché de dimensão ampla, ou em uma pólis inchada para a satisfação de necessidades supérfluas, a necessária gestão dos recursos introduz um princípio de cálculo, o qual é responsável pelo aparecimento da razão. Mas, a atuação da razão é de contenção da parte concupiscente da qual se originou, donde seu aspecto paradoxal. Entretanto, são o cálculo e a medida da razão dos governantes os que impõem como condição para a sua realização uma formação que é muito restritiva para com a parte concupiscente da alma e que é incompatível com a forma mimética da poíesis. É como se a razão fosse um produto do desejo destinado a suprimi-lo, e a poíesis um meio de resistência do desejo à razão.The objective of this essay is to situate Plato’s critique of poetry in the Republic on its implicit conceptual base, giving visibility to important aspects postulated ab anteriori to the critique. The theological motivation for the defense and apprehension of Díke in its formal manifestation, on both political and individual levels, leads us to examine a morphism between the parts of the psyche and the polis. The principle of the insufficiency of the polis elements applied to the psyche leads to a more positive appreciation of the concupiscent part of the soul. However, that same portion of the soul is responsible for introducing luxury. And luxury in the individual’s soul, or in the polis, is responsible for the need for defense and for a government to manage an aggregate of wide dimension. In a wide dimension psychism, or in an inflated polis for the satisfaction of superfluous needs, the need for resource management introduces a calculation principle which results in the rise of reason. However, the role of reason is to confine the concupiscent part of the soul, from where it comes, thus its paradoxical aspect. However, it is the calculation and the measure of the reason of rulers that impose, as a condition to come true, a formation which is very restrictive to the concupiscent part of the soul and is incompatible with the mimetic form of the poiesis. It is as if reason were a product of the desire aimed at suppressing it and as if poiesis were a means to resist desire from reason
