A Ubiquitous Business Community (UBC) Model for Clusters

    Get PDF
Nowadays a growing convergence of computing platforms, mobile telephony, broadband and wireless networks allow small firms to implement strategies and business transactions that once were only affordable to medium and large size companies. In this context, a Ubiquitous Business Community (UBC) can be defined as a computer application designed to promote the interaction between members of a business community despite their location or computing platforms, anytime (allowing synchronous or asynchronous interactions), anywhere, sensitive to the context of users (location, information needs, time demands, user profiles), as well as to business transactions opportunities. This work presents an UBC model that has the potential to leverage interactions and to promote business transactions and collaboration inside a cluster. This model can underpin the creation of prototypes or systems to implement an UBC in a real cluster

Our purpose was to compare the genetic polymorphism of six samples of P. brasiliensis (113, 339, BAT, T1F1, T3B6, T5LN1), with four samples of P. cerebriformis (735, 741, 750, 361) from the Mycological Laboratory of the Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo, using Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA Analysis (RAPD). RAPD profiles clearly segregated P. brasiliensis and P. cerebriformis isolates. However, the variation on band patterns among P. cerebriformis isolates was high. Sequencing of the 28S rDNA gene showed nucleotide conservancy among P. cerebriformis isolates, providing basis for taxonomical grouping, and disclosing high divergence to P. brasiliensis supporting that they are in fact two distinct species. Moreover, DNA sequence suggests that P. cerebriformis belongs in fact to the Aspergillus genus.

Evaluation of a distributed numerical simulation optimization approach applied to aquifer remediation

    Get PDF
AbstractIn this paper we evaluate a distributed approach which uses numerical simulation and optimization techniques to automatically find remediation solutions to a hypothetical contaminated aquifer. The repeated execution of the numerical simulation model of the aquifer through the optimization cycles tends to be computationally expensive. To overcome this drawback, the numerical simulations are executed in parallel using a network of heterogeneous workstations. Performance metrics for heterogeneous environments are not trivial; a new way of calculating speedup and efficiency for Bag-of-Tasks (BoT) applications is proposed. The performance of the parallel approach is evaluated

Seasonal variation in blood pressure: what is still missing?

    Get PDF
Seasonal variation of blood pressure (BP) is a topic in cardiology that has gained more attention throughout the years. Although it is extensively documented that BP increases in seasons coupled with lower temperatures, there are still many gaps in this knowledge field that need to be explored. Notably, seasonal variation of BP phenotypes, such as masked and white coat hypertension, and the impact of air pollution, latitude, and altitude on seasonal variation of BP are still poorly described in the literature, and the levels of the existing evidence are low. Therefore, further investigations on these topics are needed to provide robust evidence that can be used in clinical practice

Developed the study objective of was to evaluate nutrient cycling and accumulation in pearl millet and Paiaguas palisadegrass biomass under different forage systems and sowing periods in integrated crop-livestock. The experiment followed a randomized block design with a 5 × 2 factorial arrangement and three replications, under five forage systems (monocropped pearl millet, monocropped Paiaguas palisadegrass, pearl millet intercropped in rows with Paiaguas palisadegrass, pearl millet intercropped between rows of Paiaguas palisadegrass and pearl millet oversown and intercropped with Paiaguas palisadegrass) and in two sowing periods (February and March). The results showed that Paiaguas palisadegrass monocropped or intercropped in rows or between rows, exhibited the highest nutrient cycling and accumulation in the remaining biomass. Nutrient accumulation the under all of the examined forage systems showed the following decreasing order: K > N > Mg > Ca > P > S. Potassium was the nutrient exhibiting the greatest accumulation in the biomass and it exhibited a higher percent decrease with decomposition time. The first sowing period for the forage systems led to higher nutrient cycling and accumulation in the biomass. Intercropped systems through in integrated crop-livestock showed a promising technique to maintain the nutrient cycling and accumulation with sustainability

Chorea as the first manifestation of systemic Lupus erythematosus: a case report

    Get PDF
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a disorder of the immune system with a wide range of symptoms. The involvement of kidneys, lungs and central nervous system (CNS) denotes a more severe character and worse prognosis. Several neurological and psychiatric manifestations may be present, the most common being convulsion, neuropathies and acute confusional state, but chorea is seen in less than 2% of patients. Recent studies show that antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) correlate with the appearance of chorea in SLE

Violent deaths and the path to judicialization of LGBTphobia in Brazil: The (non) guarantee of protection of rights

    Get PDF
This exploratory research was based on bibliographic and documentary sources and aimed to address the performance of the three branches regarding the criminalization of LGBTphobia. These people are stigmatized because of their sexual orientation and gender identity, since they differ from the heteronormativity still prevailing in society, which has led them to suffer more and more different types of violence, including physical, sexual, emotional, and psychological aggressions, to which they are constantly subjected. The lack of official data, beforehand, shows the real neglect of the public authority towards the rights and guarantees of this minority, in addition to the lack of effective public policies and non-investigation and non-judgment of crimes commonly poignant, which reveal true state violence. It was found that few actions by the executive branch go beyond the planning stage and that the endless discussions by the legislative can be described as true inertia, resulting in numerous quarrels in the judiciary branch, in which the LGBT community has achieved progress in denouncing human rights violations and in the relentless search for overcoming discrimination
