Once discharged into Castilian the novels of Le Piacevoli notti of Straparola will present, in the Honesto y agradable entretenimiento de damas y galanes, a different arrangement established by the translator who, through the decomposition and recomposition of the original order of the novelle and attention to the variatio therefore, offers us a text with an order of novels ex novo. Through contrasts, similarities and systematic alternations, balanced according to a preplanned scheme, Truchado gets a personal construction.

AbstractThrough the elimination of whole novels, the hispanisation of episodes and the metamorphosis of the enigmas, we attempt to find out how the translation of Le Piacevoli notti de Straparola was verbal and thematically adjusted to the Spanish anti-reformist austerity period of the time. Through this process of castilianization, it is stated how the translator avoided, on the one hand, possible lascivious images that would provoke scandal in the Honesto y agradable entretenimiento de damas y galanes and, on the other, moved away from the generalizations and faults of the original to update the text to a credible verisimilitude recognizable with the society and the liking of the Spanish reader

    Get PDF

Foreign booksellers and publishers at the end of the sixteenth Century: French trace in the Introduction of the novellieri in Castilla

    Get PDF
At the end of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, Gallic printers and publishers, who already bet in France in the translation/ commercialisation of the novellieri, open a new Spanish literary path, affirming themselves as true “sponsors” of the genre imported from Italy. The paper tries to demonstrate the important role that French booksellers had not only in the introduction of novellieri, but also in the profit and commercial success that these texts brought in the Spanish literary scene, which also enjoyed the possible commercial strategies coming from the French. Particular attention is given to the specific case of the Castilian translation of Straparola’s Le Piacevoli notti

Partiendo de la pasión coleccionista de arte del rey, intentaremos asimismo demostrar la correspondencia de Alejandro con el monarca y de su colección de retratos con las galerías de la época.[Abstract] Through an analysis of the general structure of El curioso y sabio Alejandro, juez y fiscal de vidas ajenas (1634), by Alonso Jerónimo de Salas Barbadillo, we will approach the importance of painting as a pretext of the organizing framework of narrative material and as a sumptuous component of baroque material culture. If, on the one hand, the paintings and their biographical epitomes make up the gallery-framework of the work and visually reinforce the current social situation; on the other, there will be a relation with artistic collecting of the time, a common practice among the rich of Madrid, and which, as will be explained, could also relate directly to King Felipe IV. Starting from the king’s art collector’s passion, we will also try to demonstrate Alejandro’s correspondence with the monarch and his collection of portraits with the galleries of the time

The article enlights a serious public health problem in Brazil, which is barely researched under the legal perspective: the excessive and indiscriminate use of pesticides in agriculture and its impacts. Through the hypothetical-deductive method a general panorama of the problem with supporting technical data is undertaken. The issue is also analysed by the point of view of the brazilian Constitution and the Consumer´s Defense Code. The Law of the European Union in this matter is overviewed. Finally measures aimed at the effectiveness of the Consumer´s Defense Code and the Federal Constitution are proposed.O artigo traz a lume um problema grave de saúde pública brasileiro, ainda pouco pesquisado sob o ponto de vista jurídico: o uso excessivo e indiscriminado de agrotóxicos na agricultura e seus impactos.

Effectiveness of Radiomic ZOT Features in the Automated Discrimination of Oncocytoma from Clear Cell Renal Cancer

Background: Benign renal tumors, such as renal oncocytoma (RO), can be erroneously diagnosed as malignant renal cell carcinomas (RCC), because of their similar imaging features. Computer-aided systems leveraging radiomic features can be used to better discriminate benign renal tumors from the malignant ones. The purpose of this work was to build a machine learning model to distinguish RO from clear cell RCC (ccRCC). Method: We collected CT images of 77 patients, with 30 cases of RO (39%) and 47 cases of ccRCC (61%). Radiomic features were extracted both from the tumor volumes identified by the clinicians and from the tumor’s zone of transition (ZOT). We used a genetic algorithm to perform feature selection, identifying the most descriptive set of features for the tumor classification. We built a decision tree classifier to distinguish between ROs and ccRCCs. We proposed two versions of the pipeline: in the first one, the feature selection was performed before the splitting of the data, while in the second one, the feature selection was performed after, i.e., on the training data only. We evaluated the efficiency of the two pipelines in cancer classification. Results: The ZOT features were found to be the most predictive by the genetic algorithm. The pipeline with the feature selection performed on the whole dataset obtained an average ROC AUC score of 0.87 ± 0.09. The second pipeline, in which the feature selection was performed on the training data only, obtained an average ROC AUC score of 0.62 ± 0.17. Conclusions: The obtained results confirm the efficiency of ZOT radiomic features in capturing the renal tumor characteristics. We showed that there is a significant difference in the performances of the two proposed pipelines, highlighting how some already published radiomic analyses could be too optimistic about the real generalization capabilities of the models

In Vitro Identification and Characterization of CD133pos Cancer Stem-Like Cells in Anaplastic Thyroid Carcinoma Cell Lines

Background: Recent publications suggest that neoplastic initiation and growth are dependent on a small subset of cells, termed cancer stem cells (CSCs). Anaplastic Thyroid Carcinoma (ATC) is a very aggressive solid tumor with poor prognosis, characterized by high dedifferentiation. The existence of CSCs might account for the heterogeneity of ATC lesions. CD133 has been identified as a stem cell marker for normal and cancerous tissues, although its biological function remains unknown. Methodology/Principal Findings: ATC cell lines ARO, KAT-4, KAT-18 and FRO were analyzed for CD133 expression. Flow cytometry showed CD133pos cells only in ARO and KAT-4 (6469% and 57612%, respectively). These data were confirmed by qRT-PCR and immunocytochemistry. ARO and KAT-4 were also positive for fetal marker oncofetal fibronectin and negative for thyrocyte-specific differentiating markers thyroglobulin, thyroperoxidase and sodium/iodide symporter. Sorted ARO/ CD133pos cells exhibited higher proliferation, self-renewal, colony-forming ability in comparison with ARO/CD133neg. Furthermore, ARO/CD133pos showed levels of thyroid transcription factor TTF-1 similar to the fetal thyroid cell line TAD-2, while the expression in ARO/CD133neg was negligible. The expression of the stem cell marker OCT-4 detected by RT-PCR and flow cytometry was markedly higher in ARO/CD133pos in comparison to ARO/CD133neg cells. The stem cell markers c- KIT and THY-1 were negative. Sensitivity to chemotherapy agents was investigated, showing remarkable resistance to chemotherapy-induced apoptosis in ARO/CD133pos when compared with ARO/CD133neg cells. Conclusions/Significance: We describe CD133pos cells in ATC cell lines. ARO/CD133pos cells exhibit stem cell-like features - such as high proliferation, self-renewal ability, expression of OCT-4 - and are characterized by higher resistance to chemotherapy. The simultaneous positivity for thyroid specific factor TTF-1 and onfFN suggest they might represent putative thyroid cancer stem-like cells. Our in vitro findings might provide new insights for novel therapeutic approaches
