Juan de Grial's edition (1599) of Isidore of Seville's Etymologiae, an achievement of the joint efforts of great Latinists of his age, is well known among all scholars. An interesting report on this edition by Juan de Mariana can be found in the codex Egerton 1874 of the British Library. The transcription and study of this report (as confronted with the Ajuda codex of the Etymologiae) allows to conclude that Mariana was aware of the contributions made by Alvar Gómez to Grial's edition

The epigrams currently known as pseudo-senecans have undergone multiple studies and editions. In the group of epigrams considered related to the exile there are several doublets, namely poems that repeat the same motif in different forms, to the point of having raised questions about their status as unique poem or not. With their analysis and a few more – excluding the epigrams dedicated to highlight historical figures, topical in some way – I intend to approach the intention behind this kind of compositions

The Corpus of Leo’s novels. Some suggestions concerning their date and promulgation

    Get PDF
Producción CientíficaThe new edition of the Novels of Leo VI the Wise by Spyros Troianos is perhaps a good occasion to review several arguments concerning the dating and constitution of this collection of 113 Novels which has long attracted the interest of scholars but of which no systematic study has been undertaken since those of Monnier and Spulber at the beginning of the 20th century. It is the purpose of this article to encourage such a study by proposing new arguments. In particular, we shall question the prevailing communis opinio, according to which Novels were published in 888, simultaneously with the Basilica. This dating of the Novels was first proposed by Andreas Schminck and supported by the analysis by the late Marie Theres Fögen of its connection with the Basilica. Both articles were published in the same number of Subseciva Groningana some twenty years ago. Why Should We Care About Molecular Coevolution?

    Get PDF
Non-independent evolution of amino acid sites has become a noticeable limitation of most methods aimed at identifying selective constraints at functionally important amino acid sites or protein regions. The need for a generalised framework to account for non-independence of amino acid sites has fuelled the design and development of new mathematical models and computational tools centred on resolving this problem. Molecular coevolution is one of the most active areas of research, with an increasing rate of new models and methods being developed everyday. Both parametric and non-parametric methods have been developed to account for correlated variability of amino acid sites. These methods have been utilised for detecting phylogenetic, functional and structural coevolution as well as to identify surfaces of amino acid sites involved in protein-protein interactions. Here we discuss and briefly describe these methods, and identify their advantages and limitations

Color composition in postmodern western architecture

This is the pre-peer reviewed version of the following article: Serra, J. and Codoñer, Á. G. (2014), Color composition in postmodern western architecture. Color Res. Appl., 39: 399–412. doi: 10.1002/col.21814, which has been published in final form at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/col.21814/abstractThis research aims to know some of the most innovative aspects of color in composition of postmodern architecture in Europe, approximately between 1960 and 2000. We describe the main chromatic trends in this period following historian JA. Ramírez's formal classification: the new utopias (‘60s), neo-illuminist rationalism (‘70s), figurative postmodernity (‘80s), and deconstructivism (‘90s). For each trend, we point out some color composition features; analyze a case study building; and reflect on later influence on contemporary colored architecture. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Serra Lluch, J.; García Codoñer, Á. This article provides the edition and the study of a group of texts which are inserted at the end of book de medicina, after the chapter entitled de initio medicinae, in manuscripts written between the XIth and XIVth centuries. This study proves the interest of recentiores copies of the Étymologies ; it also shows how this work, because of its encyclopaedic character, was continually open to supplement.
