Interoperability framework for supporting information-based assistance in the factory
The aim of this paper is to propose new interoperability solution, based on Info-Engine framework and web services technology to support data exchange and extraction from PLM system, specially the Windchill tool. This solution will be implemented as a connector module of more generic framework, named Digital Factory Assistant (DFA). The DFA framework aims to provide factory workers by a set of knowledge and information based decision support to improve their activity performance
Hopping Conduction in Disordered Carbon Nanotubes
We report electrical transport measurements on individual disordered carbon
nanotubes, grown catalytically in a nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide template.
In both as-grown and annealed types of nanotubes, the low-field conductance
shows as exp[-(T_{0}/T)^{1/2}] dependence on temperature T, suggesting that
hopping conduction is the dominant transport mechanism, albeit with different
disorder-related coefficients T_{0}. The field dependence of low-temperature
conductance behaves an exp[-(xi_{0}/xi)^{1/2}] with high electric field xi at
sufficiently low T. Finally, both annealed and unannealed nanotubes exhibit
weak positive magnetoresistance at low T = 1.7 K. Comparison with theory
indicates that our data are best explained by Coulomb-gap variable range
hopping conduction and permits the extraction of disorder-dependent
localization length and dielectric constant.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figure
Bonus incentives and losses from early debt extinguishment
An increasing number of firms repurchase debt and recognize associated accounting losses (rather than gains). However, few studies to date have examined the effect of reporting incentives on debt repurchase decisions. We examine the relation between managers' bonus incentives and the recognition of gains or losses from early debt extinguishment (EDE). Our findings indicate that managers tend to recognize disproportionately more losses from EDE when earnings before gains or losses from EDE (i.e., as-if earnings) exceed the maximum performance level set in annual bonus contracts. These results are consistent with the notion that managers' income-decreasing reporting incentives affect debt repurchases. Further analyses indicate that bonus-driven debt repurchases are associated with increases in future bonus awards, but do not significantly affect shareholder value. Overall, our results suggest that managers' bonus incentives are an important determinant of debt repurchases and the recognition of losses
Quantum phase transition of condensed bosons in optical lattices
In this paper we study the superfluid-Mott-insulator phase transition of
ultracold dilute gas of bosonic atoms in an optical lattice by means of Green
function method and Bogliubov transformation as well. The superfluid-
Mott-insulator phase transition condition is determined by the energy-band
structure with an obvious interpretation of the transition mechanism. Moreover
the superfluid phase is explained explicitly from the energy spectrum derived
in terms of Bogliubov approach.Comment: 13 pages, 1 figure
Notes on entropic characteristics of quantum channels
One of most important issues in quantum information theory concerns
transmission of information through noisy quantum channels. We discuss few
channel characteristics expressed by means of generalized entropies. Such
characteristics can often be dealt in line with more usual treatment based on
the von Neumann entropies. For any channel, we show that the -average output
entropy of degree is bounded from above by the -entropy of the
input density matrix. Concavity properties of the -entropy exchange are
considered. Fano type quantum bounds on the -entropy exchange are
derived. We also give upper bounds on the map -entropies in terms of the

Relations for certain symmetric norms and anti-norms before and after partial trace
Changes of some unitarily invariant norms and anti-norms under the operation
of partial trace are examined. The norms considered form a two-parametric
family, including both the Ky Fan and Schatten norms as particular cases. The
obtained results concern operators acting on the tensor product of two
finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces. For any such operator, we obtain upper
bounds on norms of its partial trace in terms of the corresponding
dimensionality and norms of this operator. Similar inequalities, but in the
opposite direction, are obtained for certain anti-norms of positive matrices.
Through the Stinespring representation, the results are put in the context of
trace-preserving completely positive maps. We also derive inequalities between
the unified entropies of a composite quantum system and one of its subsystems,

Studying Gaugino Mass Unification at the LHC
We begin a systematic study of how gaugino mass unification can be probed at
the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in a quasi-model independent manner. As a
first step in that direction we focus our attention on the theoretically
well-motivated mirage pattern of gaugino masses, a one-parameter family of
models of which universal (high scale) gaugino masses are a limiting case. We
improve on previous methods to define an analytic expression for the metric on
signature space and use it to study one-parameter deviations from universality
in the gaugino sector, randomizing over other soft supersymmetry-breaking
parameters. We put forward three ensembles of observables targeted at the
physics of the gaugino sector, allowing for a determination of this
non-universality parameter without reconstructing individual mass eigenvalues
or the soft supersymmetry-breaking gaugino masses themselves. In this
controlled environment we find that approximately 80% of the supersymmetric
parameter space would give rise to a model for which our method will detect
non-universality in the gaugino mass sector at the 10% level with an integrated
luminosity of order 10 inverse femptobarns. We discuss strategies for improving
the method and for adding more realism in dealing with the actual experimental
circumstances of the LHC
Revisiting the design intent concept in the context of mechanical CAD education
[EN] Design intent is generally understood simply as a CAD model¿s anticipated behavior when altered.
However, this representation provides a simplified view of the model¿s construction and purpose,
which may hinder its general understanding and future reusability. Our vision is that design intent
communication may be improved by recognizing the multifaceted nature of design intent, and by
instructing users to convey each facet of design intent through the better-fitted CAD resource. This
paper reviews the current understanding of design intent and its relationship to design rationale and
builds on the idea that communication of design intent conveyed via CAD models can be satisfied
at three levels provided that specialized instruction is used to instruct users in selection of the most
