As a result, a model that presents the key factors to promote a more efficient knowledge transfer in HHU is developed. These factors are: (1) technology infrastructures; (2) people who take part and carry out the processes; (3) system that supports and rewards knowledge sharing and (4) the unit leade

Online Store Locator: An Essential Resource for Retailers in the 21st Century

    Get PDF
Most retailers use their websites and social media to increase their visibility, while potential customers get information about these retailers using the Internet on electronic devices. Many papers have previously studied online marketing strategies used by retailers, but little attention has been paid to determine how these companies provide information through the Internet about the location and characteristics of their stores. This paper aims to obtain evidence about the inclusion of interactive web maps on retailers’ websites to provide information about the location of their stores. With this purpose, the store locator interactive tools of specialty retailers’ websites included in the report “Global Powers of Retailing 2015” are studied in detail using different procedures, such as frequency analysis and word clouds. From the results obtained, it was concluded that most of these firms use interactive maps to provide information about their offline stores, but today some of them still use non-interactive (static) maps or text format to present this information. Moreover, some differences were observed among the search filters used in the store locator services, according to the retailer’s specialty. These results provided insight into the important role of online store locator tools on retailers’ websites

Measuring the impact of e-learning on increasing organization quality of services: Case study of medical university in Ilam

    Get PDF
Information technology has made tremendous changes on ways people learn and communicate. People could go through internet to have an access to many knowledge based websites such as Wikipedia to learn or they may participate in e-learning programs offered by different well known universities in the world without bothering about the borders between countries. E-learning has proven as a cost efficient method especially for courses where there is no need to offer physical lab courses. It can literally eliminate different cost items involved with traditional learning such as transportation or the cost of leaving a job to learn more. The proposed study of this paper attempts to understand whether e-learning has any positive impact on quality improvement in an organization. The proposed study of this paper performs a survey on 525 people who work in medical school of Ilam. We have chosen a sample of 223 people and designed a questionnaire based on Likert scale. The results indicate that e-learning has positive relationship with quality improvement in an organization

An unusual presentation of a Gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST)

Abstract

Background

Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) are rare tumours, now more frequently identified with the new imaging modalities like computerised tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We report a rare presentation of a GIST with an unusual diagnostic workup in a multidisciplinary setting leading to a definitive diagnosis and treatment.

Case presentation

A 55-year-old lady was admitted under the general surgeons, with 3-day history of abdominal pain, three-week history of loss of appetite and weight. The patient was sequentially investigated with ultrasonography, computerised tomography and finally selective angiogram in a multidisciplinary setting. The selective angiogram showed a GIST with intratumour bleed, leading to successful surgical excision and being recurrence free at 22 month follow up.

Conclusion

Clinical presentation of these tumours can be varied and gastrointestinal bleeding is the commonest mode described in the literature. The clinician needs to be aware of much more rare presentations of the GIST including an intra tumour bleed. A structured multidisciplinary approach would lead to successful diagnosis and treatment.</p

Ecotourism Capital as an Enabler of Positive Change in Tourism Sustainability

Despite a global commitment to minimise the impact of tourism on the environment and maximise its benefits for local communities, the pressure of tourism on natural resources is still increasing. In this context, ecotourism becomes key to safeguarding the integrity of the ecosystem while producing economic benefits that can ultimately encourage the conservation of the environment. However, despite its benefits, there is still a need to develop the market presence of ecotourism strategies and initiatives. Thus, tourists' positive intention toward ecotourism and organisations that seek to meet the demand of the increasingly environmentally conscious market are key to the success of ecotourism initiatives. In the context of the information era, organisations may create a trustworthy relationship with ecotourists by providing them with accurate and engaging information on their environmental policies and actions. This relationship may result in the emergence of a critical intangible asset such as eco-tourism capital as tourists' decisions are based on image, perception and recommendations from social groups. For organisations to benefit from eco-tourism capital, they should use social media to generate opportunities for eco-tourists to experience and appreciate nature, respect local cultures, support local communities and minimise and mitigate their negative impact on the environment. Based on the above, the aim of this study is to explore, via a descriptive analysis of data collected from international ecotourists, how social media can be used to create eco-tourism capital. To that aim, we explore factors relating to ecotourism knowledge, green trust, and exposure to information on social media provided by ecotourism service providers

Are There Typological Characteristics of Individual Unlearning?

    Get PDF
Organizations have sought solutions to produce consistent, competent practices while updating organizational processes. A traditional method of learning used strategies of identifying gaps in knowledge, and teaching lacking information to close gaps. Faulty learning completion processes often yield decreased work product quality, and productivity, or increased product costs. Knowledge base change creates ongoing difficulties for individuals who must unlearn, store, and use new knowledge processes to update the old. Knowledge change, or unlearning, speculated to involve a replacement of prior knowledge remains unconceptualized due to limited, anecdotally based research. This qualitative study aims to further characterize unlearning initiation processes, and clarify knowledge replacement factors: 1) How does individual unlearning initiate? and, 2) What factors contribute to the unlearning process? Three weekly-spaced interviews with 31 participants categorized unlearning using Rushmer and Davies’ (2004) typological unlearning model. Predominately two knowledge change typologies were demonstrated and a new unlearning model developed
