Among the countless innovations media strategies are forever offering us, the multiscreen device deserves to be rescued from the process of trivialization that its indiscriminated use is promoting. The cinematographic application of this system, whose history is long but not very vigorous, allows for this rescue operation, since in the movies the simple aesthetics of impact that proliferate in other media acquire the dramaturgic and narrative density needed to fill the device with meaning. The cinematic multiscreen recovers ancient painting techniques filtered through a variety of avantgarde procedures in order to construct a new and complex system of representing time and space relationships in the present, thus allowing us to foresee the potential of a postcinema increasingly immersed in digital culture

The film-essay is a cinematographic mode put together by Orson Welles as a continuation of his radio experiments. It constitutes the perfect demonstration that movies, far from being the instrument of a mimetic function, both proverbial and reductionist, are on the contrary a complex activity in which images can reach the same expressive quality as literature. Narración y cognición

Al margen del proceso de industrialización de la conciencia en el que se insertan las transformaciones experimentadas por la narrativa durante el siglo xix y el xx, hay otras trasformaciones que experimenta la misma y que son igualmente transcendentales aunque quizá no se les haya dedicado tanta atención. Entre ellas, la más importante puede que sea el paulatino trasvase de los ejes principales del fenómeno narrativo desde los procesos textuales a los relativos a la representación audiovisual, aunque no debe dejarse de lado la importancia que adquiere el factor del modo de exposición en este fenómeno. A finales del siglo xx y principios del xxi, estas tendencias experimentan un salto cualitativo que implica una nueva concepción de las coordenadas espacio-temporales en las que se había movido la narrativa clásica durante milenios.Al marge del procés d'industrialització de la consciència en el qual s'insereixen les transformacions experimentades per la narrativa durant el segle XIX i el XX, hi ha altres transformacions que experimenta la mateixa i que són igualment transcendentals encara que no se les hagi dedicat tanta atenció. Entre elles, la més important pot ser el gradual transvasament dels eixos principals del fenomen narratiu des dels processos textuals als relatius a la representació audiovisual, encara que no ha de deixar-se de banda la importància que adquireix el factor del mode d'exposició en aquest fenomen. A la fi del segle XX i principis del XXI, aquestes tendències experimenten un salt qualitatiu que implica una nova concepció de les coordenades espai-temporals en les quals s'havia mogut la narrativa clàssica durant mil·lennis.Besides the consciousness industrialization process in which the narrative transformations were inserted during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, there were other changes that were equally momentous, even though they may have not called so much attention. Among them, perhaps the most important is the gradual transfer of the main narrative axis from the text related processes to the audiovisual representation ones. But should not be overlooked either the importance acquired by the exposition mode concept in the narrative phenomenon. At the late twentieth and early twenty-first, these trends have experienced a qualitative leap that implies a new conception of space and time completely different from the one the classic narrative have use for millennia

En el camino que lleva al necesario esclarecimiento de las posibilidades expresivas de la imagen se interpone el monumento impresionante de la estética literaria que, desde el propio campo de la cultura visual, se acostumbra a contemplar menos como un acicate que como una insuperable contrapartida a las supuestas limitaciones de ésta. A ello contribuye el hecho de que, en la imaginación modernista, la estética de la imagen haya estado tradicionalmente atascada entre el callejón sin salida de la pintura y la salida en falso que la cinematografía efectuó en su momento hacia una imitación superficial de los modos literarios. El autor propone experimentar con un acercamiento visual al imaginario novelístico a fin de establecer un puente entre cine y literatura que fertilice verdaderamente los estudios de la imagen.The impressive monument of literary aesthetics is in the way that leads to the necessary enlightenment of the expressive capabilities of images. Even in the field of visual culture it is common to view literature less as a motivation than as the unavoidable counterpart of its so-called limitations. The fact that the aesthetics of images have been traditionally stuck between the dead end of painting and the deception created by movies' surface imitation of the literary mode in the modernist imagination undoubtedly contributes to this. The author proposes to experiment with the literary narrative imagination through a visual approach, in order to reunite film and literature in a way that is truly helpful to the study of images
