Despite the recognized impact of diet on non-communicable diseases, the association between the Mediterranean diet and periodontal diseases is still uncertain. This study aimed to determine the association between adherence to the Mediterranean Diet Index (MDI) and self-reported gingival health status in Chilean adults, exploring the feasibility of using validated web-based survey questionnaires. Methodology: Cross-sectional data were collected from a representative sample of a population of Chilean adults (18-60 years old) using a low-cost and time-saving methodology. By the PsyToolkit platform, anonymous survey data were downloaded and analyzed in bivariate (crude) and backward stepwise selection multivariate logistic regression models adjusted for sociodemographic determinants, smoking, and dental attendance using STATA 17. Odds ratios (OR) [95% confidence intervals] were estimated. Results: In total, 351 complete statistical data were mostly obtained from female university students who had never smoked and reported having visited a dentist in the previous year. Multivariate regression models showed an association between MDI and very good/good gingival health status (OR 1.18 [95% CI 1.04-1.34], p=0.013), absence of bleeding on toothbrushing (OR 1.12 [95% CI 1.01-1.25], p=0.035), and absence of clinical signs of gingival inflammation (OR 1.24 [95% CI 1.10-1.40], p<0.001), after controlling for age, sex, educational level, smoking, and dental attendance. Conclusions: We associated adherence to the Mediterranean diet with better self-reported gingival health status in a population of Chilean adults in an entirely web-based research environment. Longitudinal studies with random sampling are required to establish the effect of diet on gingival and periodontal health. Nevertheless, this evidence could contribute to the design of low-cost surveillance programs to reduce the burden of periodontal disease and related “common risk factors”

Advances of Genomic Medicine in Psoriatic Arthritis.

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a common type of inflammatory arthritis found in up to 40% of patients with psoriasis. Although early diagnosis is important for reducing the risk of irreversible structural damage, there are no adequate screening tools for this purpose, and there are no clear markers of predisposition to the disease. Much evidence indicates that PsA disorder is complex and heterogeneous, where genetic and environmental factors converge to trigger inflammatory events and the development of the disease. Nevertheless, the etiologic events that underlie PsA are complex and not completely understood. In this review, we describe the existing data in PsA in order to highlight the need for further research in this disease to progress in the knowledge of its pathobiology and to obtain early diagnosis tools for these patients.post-print536 K

This article presents the initial results achieved in project SEU, which comprises the study of the design and implementation of digital interfaces adapted to the specific needs of each user, as well as the study of a business model that allows service providers to offer services for an audience with special characteristics. Starting from the survey of the needs of people with disabilities and the study of digital accessibility standards, two models were proposed: an Adaptation Model for designing interfaces according to the characteristics of each type of user; and a Services Model, which extends the base model of platforms facilitating offline services. These two models were instantiated in the initial web prototype presented. Keywords: Web services platform. Digital accessibility. Multimodal user-interfaces. Inclusion. People with disabilities

As the interest on the factors related to the perception of health is growing, the present ex post facto study analyzes the relationship between the self-perception of health and different indicators which can influence it. The relationship between the self-assessment of health of the Spanish population by means of the National Health Survey answered by the sample of 41,923 subjects from the whole country and the indicators of the mortality sorted by causes, hospital morbility, labour accidents and the intake of medicines, was analyzed. The results of the regression analysis show that none of the indicators is significant in prediction of the perception of health of the individuals. Thus, it is possible that this relationship is mediated by different type of variables as personality characteristics or sociodemographic aspects, this means that self-perceived health status is not an approppiate indicator in order to establish health policies.

RESULTS: In the objective evaluation, we observed a statistically significant reduction in the pad test (p=0.003), in the number of stress urinary episodes (p<0.001), and a significant improvement in the quality of life (p<0.001) in subjects who used pelvic floor exercises, electrical stimulation, and vaginal cones compared to the control group. No significant difference was found between groups in the urodynamic parameters. In the subjective evaluation, 58%, 55%, and 54% of women who had used pelvic floor exercises, electrical stimulation, and vaginal cones, respectively, reported being satisfied after treatment. In the control group, only 21% patients were satisfied with the treatment. CONCLUSION: Based on this study, pelvic floor exercises, electrical stimulation, and vaginal cones are equally effective treatments and are far superior to no treatment in women with urodynamic stress urinary incontinence
