    Get PDF
The Fashion of Politics. Argentina from the 1940s to the 2000s

Deeply marked by Peronism’s emergence, all along the second half of the twentieth century, in Argentina external appearance functioned not merely as a powerful symbol of politics but also and, particularly, as the precise way in which politics and society related to each other. Since the descamisados (shirtless: name that desig- nated General Perón’s supporters) and Eva Perón’s clothing in the 1940’s until the mini-skirts and beards in the 1970’s (which were used as clues by the last Argentine military dictatorship to identify political adversaries), ways of dressing up expressed the very character of Argentine politics and the nature of the relationship between political and social issues in this country. The purpose of this article is, on the one hand, to revisit Argentine history during the second half of the twentieth century by examining the main images that politics conferred to and received from society; and, on the other, to employ the conclusions that can be drawn from this revision to analyse Argentine present crisis in historical perspective.Deeply marked by Peronism’s emergence, all along the second half of the twentieth century, in Argentina external appearance functioned not merely as a powerful symbol of politics but also and, particularly, as the precise way in which politics and society related to each other. MORE THAN ATHLETES: DO STUDENT ATHLETES PERFORM BETTER ACADEMICALLY IN THEIR RESPECTIVE COMPETITIVE SEASON?

The purpose of this research study was to analyze the grade point averages of student athletes in their competitive season versus their “off” season. This study also provides suggestions to Rowan University on how they can better support their student athlete’s academic success. This research study used surveys and a quantitative data analysis to analyze the grade point averages of the student athletes. The participants in this research study were student athletes that attended Rowan University in the 2021-2022 academic school year and had completed one full academic year. The most significant data collected was that student athletes do not perform better academically in their competitive season. The findings also revealed that female student athletes who participated in a spring sport had the overall better GPA range compared to male student athletes. Recommendations include the suggestion to create mandated study hall hours for all student athletes and the suggestion for individualized tutoring just for student athletes

Business in practice: reflective journal & the transition toward electric mobility

    Get PDF
The Business in Practice was an immersive simulation where I got to learn more about myself and a company’s operations. As a result, this paper serves as both a reflective journal, in which I will reflect on my behavior during two critical incidents, and a business analysis of three departments, Marketing, Human Resources, and Operations, of my team’s virtual car manufacturing company, Mercury. Due to the current environmental crisis, the firm had six years to move on from combustion vehicles to all-electric and automated cars. All departments were committed to working together and noticed how interdependent they all were

The capability of GRMs to reach the brain has mainly been investigated in vivo and has highlighted some controversy. Herein, we employed two in vitro BBB models of increasing complexity to investigate the bionano interactions with graphene oxide (GO) and few-layer graphene (FLG): a 2D murine Transwell model, followed by a 3D human multicellular assembloid, to mimic the complexity of the in vivo architecture and intercellular crosstalk. We developed specific methodologies to assess the translocation of GO and FLG in a label-free fashion and a platform applicable to any nanomaterial. Overall, our results show good biocompatibility of the two GRMs, which did not impact the integrity and functionality of the barrier. Sufficiently dispersed subpopulations of GO and FLG were actively uptaken by endothelial cells; however, the translocation was identified as a rare event.European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme 881603Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Italy) MAE00694702021-05-20IRCCS Ospedale Policlinico San Martino, Genova, Ital

Cell wall composition and biofilm formation of azoles-susceptible and -resistant Candida glabrata strains

In the present study, three strains of Candida glabrata have been investigated to shed light on the mechanisms involved in azole resistance during adherence and biofilm formation. In particular, a clinical isolate, susceptible to azole-based drugs, DSY562 and two different resistant mutagenic strains deriving from DSY562, SFY114 and SFY115, have been analysed with different approaches for their cell wall composition and properties. A proteomic analysis revealed that the expression of six cell wall-related proteins and biofilm formation varied between the strains. The SFY114 and SFY115 strains resulted to be less hydrophobic than the susceptible parental counterpart DSY562, on the other hand they showed a higher amount in total cell wall polysaccharides fraction in the total cell wall. Accordingly to the results obtained from the hydrophobicity and adherence assays, in the resistant strain SFY115 the biofilm formation decreased compared to the parental strain DSY562. Finally, the total glucose amount in resistant SFY115 was about halved in comparison to other strains. Taken together all these data suggest that azole drugs may affect the cell wall composition of C. glabrata, in relation to the different pathogenic behaviours
