DNA methylation is a signaling marker used by the cell to control gene expression, to keep genes silenced or active. It is an important part of what is called epigenetic controlling mechanisms (epi- Greek: επί- over, above, outer). We are just beginning to understand the intricate processes involving this type of epigenetic regulation and its role in normal development and carcinogenesis. In most types of cancers, a combination of environmental, genetic and epigenetic factors is implicated in initiating and maintaining the disease. Non-small cell lung carcinoma is a complex malignancy, posing challenges to accurate diagnosis and prognosis, which are essential for the correct choice of treatment. Formação e docência: uma abordagem às necessidades formativas e atuação de professores bacharéis no ensino médio integrado à educação profissional

Trata-se de uma pesquisa que propõe explorar o objeto concernente às necessidades formativas para o exercício da docência, tendo como objetivo principal analisar as percepções de professores bacharéis sobre a dimensão profissional do magistério e as interfaces entre a sua formação profissional inicial e a atuação docente no Ensino Médio Integrado à Educação Profissional. Com este intuito, emerge em defesa da implementação de uma política interna de formação continuada permanente, visando a formação e atualização pedagógica no IFRN (Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Rio Grande do Norte). A problemática em foco explicita que no contexto da Educação Profissional e Tecnológica, os demais Institutos Federais brasileiros, necessitam contratar duas categorias de professores: professores licenciados habilitados para ministrar as disciplinas de formação geral relativas à Educação Básica e professores bacharéis para lecionar disciplinas técnicas. A maioria desses professores bacharéis assume a docência sem nunca ter lecionado e sem ter a formação pedagógica para o ensino. Educação musical no Instituto Reciclando Sons

O presente trabalho se constitui de relatos de experiência que apresentam os dados de estruturação e organização de uma Organização da Sociedade civil, a partir do ponto de vista da gestão instituição. O trabalho busca demonstrar a importância da educação musical inclusiva na contemporaneidade para a formação da pessoa e a construção da cidadania, tendo como referência o Programa Educacional do INSTITUTO RECICLANDO SONS. A metodologia qualitativa dialoga com os pressupostos teóricos apresentados por meio de uma escrita autobiográfica partindo do ponto de vista da administração da instituição. O IFRN é uma instituição centenária, com uma histórica experiência no ensino técnico e tecnológico. Formação docente e desenvolvimento profissional de professores bacharéis na educação profissional e tecnológica

O estudo aborda a formação e atuação de professores bacharéis do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do RN/Brasil. Parte-se da premissa de que a formação docente pressupõe conhecimentos e saberes inerentes à docência, conhecimentos esses essenciais para a reconfiguração de uma nova identidade: o professor atuando como um profissional do processo de ensino e aprendizagem (RAMALHO, NUÑEZ, GAUTHIER, 2003; NÓVOA, 2009; FLORES, VIANA, 2007). A pesquisa, de natureza quali e quantitativa, fez uso de questionário, entrevista e grupo focal, envolvendo 199 docentes e 10 gestores do Instituto. Evidenciou um conjunto de necessidades formativas identificadas pelos docentes como essenciais para a redefinição de suas atividades. Propõe a criação de um Programa de Formação e Atualização Pedagógica de Docentes da Instituição que, em dez anos expandiu-se fortemente, implementou novos cursos, mudou sua identidade e função social com o desafio de torna-se, também, formadora de professores.The study deals with the training and performance of bachelors teachers of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of RN / Brazil. It is based on the premise that teacher training presupposes knowledge and knowledge inherent in teaching, which are essential for the reconfiguration of a new identity: the teacher acting as a professional in the teaching and learning process (RAMALHO, NUÑEZ, GAUTHIER, 2003; GAUTHIER, 2003; NÓVOA, 2009; FLORES, VIANA, 2007). The qualitative and quantitative research used a questionnaire, interview and focus group, involving 199 teachers and 10 managers of the Institute. It evidenced a set of training needs identified by teachers as essential for the redefinition of their activities. Microstructure and mechanical properties of gypsum composites reinforced with recycled cellulose pulp

The use of waste fibers for the reinforcement of brittle matrices is considered opportune for the sustainable management of urban solid residues. This paper examines the microstructure and mechanical properties of a composite material made of gypsum reinforced with cellulose fibers from discarded Kraft cement bag. Two different kinds of gypsum were used, natural gypsum (NG) and recycled gypsum (RG), both with an addition of 10% by mass of limestone. For the production of samples, slurry vacuum de-watering technique followed by pressing was evaluated revealing to be an efficient and innovative solution for the composites under evaluation. The composite was analyzed based on flexural strength tests, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging, secondary electron (SE) detection, and pseudo-adiabatic calorimetry. The morphology of the fractured surfaces of flexural test samples revealed large gypsum crystals double the original size surrounding the fibers, but with the same overall aspect ratio. Natural fibers absorb large amounts of water, causing the water/gypsum ratio of the paste to increase. The predominance of fiber pullout, damaged or removed secondary layers and incrusted crystals are indicative of the good bonding of the fiber to the gypsum matrix and of the high mechanical resistance of composites. This material is a technically better substitute for the brittle gypsum board, and it stands out particularly for its characteristics of high impact strength and high modulus of rupture

Reciclando Sons : a construção de um programa musical socioeducativo inclusivo

O objetivo foi analisar o impacto social do programa social de educação musical inclusiva na Cidade Estrutural-DF realizado pelo IRS ao longo dos seus 18 anos de trabalho e existência, na perspectiva do diálogo com os outros sociais e com a organização como um fenômeno socioeducacional. A metodologia qualitativa tratou-se de um delineamento do estudo de caso de uma organização, e a etnometodologia trouxe à tona os diversos atores do processo. As fontes documentais são colhidas a partir de relatórios, matérias jornalísticas, autorrelato da pesquisadora, entrevistas narrativas, sendo que a transcrição das narrativas ocorre em nível explanatório. Os resultados correspondem a uma descrição dos fatores humanos, fatores sociais e dos fatores de formação educacional na estruturação de um programa de educação musical. A pesquisa apresenta relatos e reflexões das narrativas. A narrativa da gestora/pesquisadora, a partir da escuta de si traz a percepção prazerosa do saber que se tinha muita a dizer, num diálogo em coerência com a bibliografia sobre o Terceiro Setor. A centralidade do olhar inclusivo apresentado na pesquisa oferece através da música uma oportunidade para a construção da autonomia, da identidade e da aprendizagem de forma prazerosa, que se aceleram e abrem múltiplas perspectivas e descobertas para o desenvolvimento humano.The purpose of the research is to show the importance of socioinclusive music education in Tertiary Sector from the points of view of the Public Interest Civil Society Organization called Instituto Reciclando Sons, of its manager and founder and of the members of its history. For this reason, the social impact of the music education program which has been developed by Instituto Reciclando Sons for 18 years in Cidade Estrutural-DF was analyzed from the perspective of coexistence with other social works and of the organization as a social phenomenon. The chosen methodology was a case study, and the ethnomethodology allows the process agents to be identified. The resources are institutional reports, journalistic reports, the self-report of the researcher, and interviews transcribed in an explanatory level, in other words, narratives and reflections about them. The narrative of the manager and researcher brings a selfreflection in harmony with bibliographies about the Tertiary Sector. The result is a description of the human, social and educational factors which constitute the music education program. From the presented point of view, music offers the opportunity for the development of autonomy, identity and learning, which bring up perspectives and discoveries in the human progress

Placental transfer of Haemophilus influenzae type b antibodies in malnourished pregnant women

This study evaluated the vaccination response to Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) in malnourished pregnant women (MN), cord blood (CB) and in infants at two and six months of age for comparison with a control group (C). Twenty-eight malnourished pregnant women and 29 pregnant controls were immunized with conjugated Act-HIB® in the third trimester of pregnancy. Blood samples were collected from all before the immunization, during labor (post immunization), and from CB. All infants were immunized with Hib vaccine according to normal vaccine schedule and sera were collected at two and six months of age. Antibody levels to polyribosylribitol phosphate (PRP) were similar for both groups. Preimmunization: MN 1.94 µg/mL, C 1.68 µg/mL; post-vaccination: MN 18.53 µg/mL and C 17.55 µg/mL; in CB from MN 14.46 µg/mL and from C 17.04 µg/mL. Infants from MN and C mothers presented respectively at two months: 5.18 µg/mL and 8.60 µg/mL and at six months: MN 3.42 µg/mL and C 2.18 µg/mL. Antibody levels were similar in both groups studied (p = 0.485), however the vertical transmission rate was 14% lower in the MN pregnant group. Levels of antibodies > 0.15 µg/mL were found in all newborns from the MN pregnant group. A MÁQUINA FABULATÓRIA DA MÍDIA E O RE-ENCANTAMENTO DA POLÍTICA: A ESTRUTURA MÍTICA DAS CAMPANHAS ELEITORAIS MAJORITÁRIAS

O objetivo central do texto é abordar as conexões entre política e estrutura das narrativas míticas nas condições de vigência de uma cultura e sociabilidade vigorosamente mediatizadas. A hipótese central é que a máquina enunciativa da mídia opera cada vez mais pelo aciconamento da dimensão fabulosa e fabulatória do imaginário popular e não por um ideal de objetividade de reportar-se apenas a fatos e acontecimentos que lhe são exteriores. A tendência de re-encantamento do mundo pela exarcebação do nosso tráfico com as imagens contraria, assim, a famosa tese de Weber do desencantamento do mundo moderno pela técnica. As campanhas políticas majoritárias são tomadas como momentos privilegiados de investimento simbólico forte e portanto mítico, na construção das imagens públicas dos protagonistas que se colocam no centro da disputa pelo voto. The Fabulatory Machine of the Media and the Re-enchantment of politics: The Mythical Structure of Electoral Campaigns Rejane Vasconcelos Accioly Carvalho The central aim of the text is to tackle the connections between politics and the structure of mythical narratives in which a vigorously mediatized culture and sociability are in force. The central hypothesis is that the enunciative machine of the media operates more and more through the activation of the fabulous and fabulatory dimension of the popular consciousness and not through an ideal of objectivity in which only the facts and events which are exterior to it are reported. The tendency towards a re-enchantment of the world through the amplification of our exchange of images would oppose in this way Weber's famous thesis of the disenchantment of the modern world by technicism. Political campaigns are taken as moments privileged by strong symbolic investment and therefore mythical, in the construction of the public images of the protagonists that place themselves in the centre of the dispute for votes. Comparison of Endodontic Retreatment in Teeth Obturated With Resilon or Gutta-Percha: A Review of Literature

Introduction: Retreatment of endodontically treated teeth is a challenge that requires complete removal of the previous filling material. Several techniques are indicated for this procedure. The present review tries to identify the most efficient method for extirpation of Resilon (RS) root fillings and to compare the speed and efficacy of RS and gutta-percha (GP) root filling removal. Methods and Materials: Three trained evaluators conducted a search through three major databases (PubMed, Cochrane Library and Lilacs) over the articles published in the period from 2001 to 2014. The search keywords were Epiphany Sealer, Resilon, Retreatment and Removal Procedure. Results: Twelve articles were included in the final sample (three in vitro studies and nine randomized trials). Conclusion: The ProTaper (manual or rotatory) system in combination with chemical solvents is the most efficient method for removing Resilon root filling. Retreatment of Resilon is more rapid and associated with less remnants of debris.Keywords: Endodontic Retreatment; Gutta-Percha; Resilon
