Rigidly Rotating Strings in Stationary Spacetimes
In this paper we study the motion of a rigidly rotating Nambu-Goto test
string in a stationary axisymmetric background spacetime. As special examples
we consider the rigid rotation of strings in flat spacetime, where explicit
analytic solutions can be obtained, and in the Kerr spacetime where we find an
interesting new family of test string solutions. We present a detailed

Propagation of perturbations along strings
A covariant formalism for physical perturbations propagating along a string
in an arbitrary curved spacetime is developed. In the case of a stationary
string in a static background the propagation of the perturbations is described
by a wave-equation with a potential consisting of 2 terms: The first term
describing the time-dilation and the second is connected with the curvature of
space. As applications of the developed approach the propagation of
perturbations along a stationary string in Rindler, de Sitter, Schwarzschild

Functional expression of TcoAT1 reveals it to be a P1-type nucleoside transporter with no capacity for diminazene uptake
It has long been established that the Trypanosoma brucei TbAT1/P2 aminopurine transporter is involved in the uptake of diamidine and arsenical drugs including pentamidine, diminazene aceturate and melarsoprol. Accordingly, it was proposed that the closest Trypanosoma congolense paralogue, TcoAT1, might perform the same function in this parasite, and an apparent correlation between a Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) in that gene and diminazene tolerance was reported for the strains examined. Here, we report the functional cloning and expression of TcoAT1 and show that in fact it is the syntenic homologue of another T. brucei gene of the same Equilibrative Nucleoside Transporter (ENT) family: TbNT10. The T. congolense genome does not seem to contain a syntenic equivalent to TbAT1. Two TcoAT1 alleles, differentiated by three independent SNPs, were expressed in the T. brucei clone B48, a TbAT1-null strain that further lacks the High Affinity Pentamidine Transporter (HAPT1); TbAT1 was also expressed as a control. The TbAT1 and TcoAT1 transporters were functional and increased sensitivity to cytotoxic nucleoside analogues. However, only TbAT1 increased sensitivity to diamidines and to cymelarsan. Uptake of [3H]-diminazene was detectable only in the B48 cells expressing TbAT1 but not TcoAT1, whereas uptake of [3H]-inosine was increased by both TcoAT1 alleles but not by TbAT1. Uptake of [3H]-adenosine was increased by all three ENT genes. We conclude that TcoAT1 is a P1-type purine nucleoside transporter and the syntenic equivalent to the previously characterised TbNT10; it does not mediate diminazene uptake and is therefore unlikely to play a role in diminazene resistance in T. congolense
Quantum integrability of quadratic Killing tensors

that, using a "minimal" quantization scheme, quantum integrability is insured

Bogomol'nyi Limit For Magnetic Vortices In Rotating Superconductor
This work is the sequel of a previous investigation of stationary and
cylindrically symmetric vortex configurations for simple models representing an
incompressible non-relativistic superconductor in a rigidly rotating
background. In the present paper, we carry out our analysis with a generalized
Ginzburg-Landau description of the superconductor, which provides a
prescription for the radial profile of the normal density within the vortex.
Within this framework, it is shown that the Bogomol'nyi limit condition marking
the boundary between type I and type II behavior is unaffected by the rotation

Search Tracker: Human-derived object tracking in-the-wild through large-scale search and retrieval
Humans use context and scene knowledge to easily localize moving objects in
conditions of complex illumination changes, scene clutter and occlusions. In
this paper, we present a method to leverage human knowledge in the form of
annotated video libraries in a novel search and retrieval based setting to
track objects in unseen video sequences. For every video sequence, a document
that represents motion information is generated. Documents of the unseen video
are queried against the library at multiple scales to find videos with similar
motion characteristics. This provides us with coarse localization of objects in
the unseen video. We further adapt these retrieved object locations to the new
video using an efficient warping scheme. The proposed method is validated on
in-the-wild video surveillance datasets where we outperform state-of-the-art
appearance-based trackers. We also introduce a new challenging dataset with

Critical Points in the QCD Phase Diagram with Two Flavors of Quarks
We employ the linear sigma model to study the chiral dynamics of two flavors
of quarks at finite temperature and density. Our calculations include thermal
fluctuations of both the bosonic and fermionic fields. In particular, we
determine the phase diagram in the plane of temperature and baryon chemical
potential as a function of the pion mass. An interesting phase structure occurs
that results in zero, one, or two critical points depending on the value of the

Killing tensors and a new geometric duality
We present a theorem describing a dual relation between the local geometry of
a space admitting a symmetric second-rank Killing tensor, and the local
geometry of a space with a metric specified by this Killing tensor. The
relation can be generalized to spinning spaces, but only at the expense of
introducing torsion. This introduces new supersymmetries in their geometry.
Interesting examples in four dimensions include the Kerr-Newman metric of

The impact of hybridization on morphological variation on Xiphophorus fishes
Hybridization can produce novel phenotypic variation which may allow hybrid populations to evolve in novel directions relative to parentals. Hybridization can produce intermediate as well as extreme phenotypes with respect to the parent species. Furthermore, separate hybridization events may create phenotypically divergent populations compared to the parentals but also to other hybrid zones. The hybrid system of Xiphophorus birchmanni and X. malinche has been shown to be replicated independently in seven streams along an elevation gradient. The sword sexual ornament is an extension of the ventral portion of the caudal fin that has been secondarily lost in X. birchmanni but persists in X. malinche and is polymorphic in hybrids. Female X. birchmanni have lost a preference for the sword and female X. malinche and hybrids are indifferent to males with swords. To determine if these replicated hybrid zones have unique introgression of the sword, morphometric data of the parental species and hybrids were collected across the hybrid zones. Though there was a general trend for the increase of the sword as one moved towards a more X. malinche-like population, the hybrid zones displayed variation for the introgression of the sword
