Assessing phosphorus extractability by Olsen P and AL-P tests in acid soils after P fertilization with compost versus mineral fertilizer
Sustainability of phosphorus fertilisation: sources and forms of phosphate Sustentabilidade da fertilização fosfatada: origens e formas do fósforo
A B S T R A C T Phosphorus (P), which originates from a non-renewable natural resource, is essential for crop productivity, food security and human health. Despite being a finite resource its use has been increasing consistently over the last few decades. The major use of the phosphate rock is the manufacture of P fertiliser, agriculture also being the main source for nonpoint source P pollution, which causes the eutrophication of water bodies. Thus, there is great need for a sustainable use of P with special attention to agricultural use, namely P fertilisation. This paper explores P sources and forms that could be phytoavailable and hence used as fertilisers. Current trends in phosphorus fertilisation are also discussed with a focus on approaches to net decrease in phosphate rock exploitation and closure of phosphorous cycle use. P enters in the food chain taken up by plant roots from soil solution. P is a component of key molecules such as nucleic acids, phospholipids, and ATP. Therefore is a component of many cell constituents and plays a major role in several key processes, including photosynthesis, respiration, and energy storage and transfer, cell division, and cell enlargemen
Phosphorus recovery from municipal solid waste digestate aiming at its valorization as a fertilizer
humanidade, no futuro.
Phosphorus (P) is a vital nutrient for plant development and food production. It is a key fertilizer constituent and no feasible
substitute has been found yet. P is mainly obtained from phosphate rock, which is a non-renewable resource. This raises the
critical issue of ensuring a continuous supply of P-fertilizers to feed mankind in the future. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to
promote the circularity of P by recycling and recovering P from waste streams.
The presente research was developed during a PhD thesis, in which the extraction of P from MSW digestate using the
electrodialytic (ED) process combined with struvite formation was explored for the first time. This work was carried out in three
stages: i) extraction of P from the digestate using the electrodialytic process; ii) synthesis of a biofertilizer – secondary struvite,
using chemical precipitation process and, iii) agronomic evaluation of the produced secondary struvite.
The research findings show that up to 90% of P present in MSW digestate could be extracted using ED and converted to secondary
struvite. This secondary struvite produced in this work using P recovered from MSW digestate proved to be of high quality, even
when alternative materials were used instead of synthetic ones during its precipitation. Also, it was verified that Its action as an
effective P biofertilizer is similar to that of a commercial synthetic fertilizer. This contaminant-free biofertilizer, produced at lab
scale, widens the possibilities for the large scale recycling of P and for the implementation of efficient strategies to close P-nutrient
cycling, thus contributing to a more sustainable resource management.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Fertiliser Effect of Ammonia Recovered from Anaerobically Digested Orange Peel Using Gas-Permeable Membranes
Themanufacture ofmineralNfertilisers by theHaber–Bosch process is highly energy-consuming.
The nutrient recovery technologies from wastes through low-cost processes will improve the sustainability
of the agricultural systems. This work aimed to assess the suitability of the gas-permeable
membrane (GPM) technology to recover N from an anaerobic digestate and test the agronomic behaviour
of the ammonium sulphate solution (ASS) obtained. About 62% of the total ammonia nitrogen
removed from digestate using GPM was recovered, producing an ASS with 14,889 2324 mg N L1,
which was more than six-fold higher than in digestate. The ASS agronomic behaviour was evaluated
by a pot experiment with triticale as a plant test for 34 days in a growth chamber. Compared with
the triticale fertilised with the Hoagland solution (Hoag), the ASS provided significantly higher
biomass production (+29% dry matter), N uptake (+22%), and higher N agronomic efficiency 3.80
compared with 1.81 mg DM mg1N in Hoag, and a nitrogen fertiliser replacement value of 133%.
These increases can be due to a biostimulant effect provided by the organic compounds of the ASS as
assessed by the FT-Raman spectroscopy. The ASS can be considered a bio-based mineral N fertiliser
with a biostimulant effectinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
incorporar o acervo dos estudos gramaticais da LGPIn this Master thesis, our goal was to create the first systematized corpus of
Portuguese Sign Language. Classifiers are morphemic structures that can be
sometimes confounded with signs, although they are not lexicalized signs.
After the creation of the corpus with classifiers produced by deaf people
proficient in Portuguese Sign Language and with a precocious sign language
acquisition we analyzed through the classifiers.
For our methodology we used the ASLAI test (Hoffmeister, 1990) which was
adaptated by us and with a designed story telling created by us to produce
classifiers in the deaf people spontaneous discourse.
Until now, this study was not done in Portugal, and we think it might be
usefull to incorporate the few studies that already exist on Portuguese Sign
Language grammar
The present study intended to evaluate the perceived usefulness and effectiveness of the
“MoodMission” app with a sample of adults from the Portuguese population. MoodMission
is an educational app that offers strategies based on evidences of Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy, its aim is to help manage stress and anxiety and depressive symptoms. On the one
hand, the goals of this study are to explore the impact of usage of this app, on a clinical group
and on a community group, also evaluating its differences between pre e post utilization. On
the other hand, explore the perceptions of the individuals regarding the use of the app. It is
a longitudinal with a mixed and methodology, participation in this study encompassed two
moments of assessment and delivered the respective instruments. In the first moment, the
socio-demographic questionnaire was applied and in the second the “Questionnaire of
information about the MoodMission app”, in both times it was also applied the “Escala de
Ansiedade e Depressão Hospitalar”. Between these two moments, the participants were
asked to use the app for 30 days. The sample has 26 adults, having been later divided into
two groups, clinical (with a diagnosis of anxiety and/or depression) and community (no
diagnosis). After collecting the data from the two evaluation moments, we investigated the
differences in symptoms between T1 and T2, but also between groups, we also tried to
understand the changes in well-being levels and whether the groups had any impact in those
changes regarding their experience using the app. No differences statistically significant
were found in terms of symptoms of anxiety and depression in both evaluation moments.
Furthermore, no differences were found between the groups in terms of symptoms of
anxiety. However, there were found statistically significant differences in terms of
depressive symptoms, stressing the importance of the relevance of the belonging group in
depressive symptomatology, in the first evaluation moment. In terms of the perceptions of
the app MoodMission, benefits were found regarding the missions suggested by the app, but
also its accessibility, simplicity and originality. Despite its limitations, this study contributed
to a better understanding of the psychological benefits of using the MoodMission app
Além disso, o maior índice de CPOD também levou ao maior uso.OBJECTIVE: Measure the prevalence of use of dental services in the previous year and associated factors among 31-year-old adults from a birth cohort of 1982. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study that analyzed a birth cohort of 1982 from the city of Pelotas. In 1997, a systematic sample of 27% of the city’s census sectors was defined and all households in these sectors were visited, where 1,076 15-year-old adolescents were interviewed. For the oral health studies, 900 of these individuals were randomly selected and followed up at 24 and 31 years of age. The study used data collected from 523 individuals in 2013 (at 31 years old). The outcome was visit to the dentist (use of dental services) in the previous year. Demographic factors (sex), socioeconomic factors (income, education), and oral health factors (reason and type of service, self-perception of oral health, dental pain and caries experience - DMFT) were used as independent variables. Prevalence ratios were estimated using Poisson regression. RESULTS: The prevalence of use of dental services in the previous year was 55.3% (95%CI: 51.0–59.5%). In the adjusted analysis, the reason and type of service, self-perception of oral health, and DMFT were associated with the outcome. A stronger association was found with use of dental services in individuals who visited for prevention and used the private service, who were satisfied with their oral health, and who had more caries experiences. CONCLUSION: 55.3% of the cohort sample used dental services in the previous year. Individuals who visited the dentist of private service for preventive reasons, who were very satisfied with their oral health, used these services in a higher proportion. In addition, a higher DMFT index also led to higher use of services

The combination of Dabrafenib plus Trametinib (DT) had a significant impact in survival of BRAF p.V600E patients. However, durable responses may be compromised by resistance. We aim to present our experience with DT in BRAF positive ATC patients and compare the outcomes with usual therapy, and to study tumor molecular alterations in the DT group. METHODS: Patients treated between May 2018 and April 2022 in a tertiary referral center, assessed for BRAF status were included. Patients were divided in three groups: BRAF p.V600E treated with DT, BRAF wild type (WT) under multimodal therapy (MT), and BRAF WT under compassionate care (CC). Response was assessed monthly in the first 6 months and every 3 months afterwards, by RECIST 1.1. Overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were estimated with the Kaplan-Meier method and compared with the log-rank test. RESULTS: Twenty-seven ATC patients were included (DT = 9, MT = 8, and CC = 10). Median OS was 475 days for DT, 156 days for MT, and 39 days for CC (P < .001). At 12 months, only patients in the DT group were alive (71%). Median PFS was 270 days, in the DT group, compared with less than 32 days in BRAF WT (P < .001). No severe adverse events were reported. Molecular profiling showed that in one of the four clinical progressions, a pathogenic NRAS mutation was found. CONCLUSIONS: Our results show a significant real-world efficacy of Dabrafenib plus Trametinib in both survival and recurrence compared with standard treatment, with a good safety profile.publishersversionpublishe
Epidemiological surveillance of land borders in North and South America: a case study
This study aims to analyze the different binational/multinational activities, programs, and structures taking place on the borders of Brazil and the U.S. between 2013 and 2015. A descriptive exploratory study of two border epidemiological surveillance (BES) systems has been performed. Two approaches were used to collect data: i) technical visits to the facilities involved with border surveillance and application of a questionnaire survey; ii) application of an online questionnaire survey. It was identified that, for both surveillance systems, more than 55% of the technicians had realized that the BES and its activities have high priority. Eighty percent of North American and 71% of Brazilian border jurisdictions reported an exchange of information between countries. Less than half of the jurisdictions reported that the necessary tools to carry out information exchange were available. Operational attributes of completeness, feedback, reciprocity, and quality of information were identified as weak or of low quality in both systems. Statements, guidelines, and protocols to develop surveillance activities are available at the U.S.-Mexico border area. The continuous systematic development of surveillance systems at these borders will create more effective actions and responses
