IMBIBITION CURVE OF OIL RADISH SEEDS

Tried to establish the duration of phases in the imbibition process of oil radish seeds. Seeds of cultivar CATI AL-1000 lot of 2004, and the cultivars IPR 116 lot of 2004 and 2005 were soaked in "gerbox" box, under moistened paper in B.O.D. adjusted in temperature 25°C, with four replications of 50 seeds. Was calculated the percentual increment of mass over the time, in function of initial mass in the intervals of time of 15 minutes, 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours and 12 hours. The research was conducted in two experiments, the first with the same sample of seeds in the weighings and the second with different samples. In 1° experiment, the cultivar CATI AL-1000, ended the phase I with 28,55 hours and the phase II with 35,87 hours. Cultivar IPR 116 ended the phase I with approximately 18,05 hours for the lot of 2004 and 21,32 for the lot of 2005, beginning from this point, the phase III. In the 2nd experiment, seeds of cultivar CATI AL-1000 concluded the phase I with 49,07 hours and the phase II with 116,93 hours. For seeds of cultivar IPR 116, lots of 2004 and 2005, was not verified the phase II of imbibition, being the phase I finalized with 52,55 hours for the lot of 2004 and 152,78 hours for the lot of 2005 with the germination of seeds started after this period

Effects of acetylcholine and SpermineNONOate on erythrocyte hemorheologic and oxygen carrying properties

© 2001 – IOS Press. All rights reservedPurpose of the study: To determine the effects of acetylcholine and SpermineNONOate – a NO donor – on RBC membrane and oxygen carrying properties. Material and methods: Aliquots of venous blood from eleven heathy subjects were incubated with ACh 10−3 M, ACh 10−5 M, SpermineNONOate 10−5 M and SpermineNONOate 10−4 M. The following parameters were determined: erythrocyte aggregation and deformability, hematocrit, plasma pH, osmolality, K+, Na+, Ca2+ concentrations, hemoglobin, oxyhemoglobin, carboxihemoglobin and methemoglobin concentrations, oxygen saturation of hemoglobin, oxygen and carbon dioxide parcial pressures and p50. Results: In presence of ACh there is an increase of erythrocyte deformability, decrease of erythrocyte aggregation, plasma pH, K+ and Na+ concentration, increase of Ca2+ concentration and p50. In presence of SpermineNONOate there an increase of erythrocyte deformability, plasma pH, decrease of Na+ and Ca2+ concentration, increase of metHb concentration and decrease of p50. Conclusion: Acetylcholine and SpermineNONOate are able to induce changes on RBC membrane and oxygen carrying properties

Induced pluripotent stem cells derived from Alzheimer's disease patients:the promise, the hope and the path ahead

The future hope of generated induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells) from Alzheimer’s disease patients is multifold. Firstly, they may help to uncover novel mechanisms of the disease, which could lead to the development of new and unprecedented drugs for patients and secondly, they could also be directly used for screening and testing of potential new compounds for drug discovery. In addition, in the case of familial known mutations, these cells could be targeted by use of advanced gene-editing techniques to correct the mutation and be used for future cell transplantation therapies. This review summarizes the work so far in regards to production and characterization of iPS cell lines from both sporadic and familial Alzheimer’s patients and from other iPS cell lines that may help to model the disease. It provides a detailed comparison between published reports and states the present hurdles we face with this new technology. The promise of new gene-editing techniques and accelerated aging models also aim to move this field further by providing better control cell lines for comparisons and potentially better phenotypes, respectively

CAPITALISMO E ESQUIZOFRENIA: A SUBJETIVIDADE BLOQUEADA NA DUPLA ESCRITURA DE TEATRO DE BERNARDO CARVALHO

Neste artigo, procuramos analisar a experiência paranóica em Teatro (1998), de Bernardo Carvalho, como sintoma de um mal-estar, em fins do século XX, em que novos paradigmas do capitalismo promovem o aprisionamento das subjetividades, que denominamos subjetividades bloqueadas. Tal bloqueio ocorre em razão de diversos fatores, a exemplo do consumo de produtos industrializados, do consumo de drogas, ou ainda do consumo das novas formas simbólicas da mídia, implicadas no tecido sociocultural. Essas subjetividades ocupam, nas narrativas contemporâneas, espaços abertos ou fechados: tais como o espaço das ruas ou dos shoppings, e tornam-se cada vez mais “bloqueadas”, seja no nível mental, seja no social, e se enredam na antilógica cultural do capitalismo tardio

O impacto da internet no jornalismo de moda português : reestruturação e mudança

O aparecimento da Internet mudou profundamente o jornalismo de Moda, alterando o modus operandi do jornalista, o funcionamento das redações, e a produção e apresentação de conteúdos noticiosos. A presente dissertação incide sobre a compreensão das mudanças que o jornalismo de Moda sofreu em Portugal após o aparecimento da Internet, focando-se essencialmente na imprensa feminina com conteúdos de Moda e na imprensa feminina da Moda. A investigação constrói-se em duas partes principais, sendo que a primeira corresponde ao enquadramento teórico, sustentado na revisão da literatura e a segunda ao trabalho empírico realizado através de catorze entrevistas semidiretivas a profissionais da Indústria da Moda com experiência relevante na área em estudo. As principais conclusões mostram que, numa fase inicial, as revistas de Moda portuguesas resistiram à aceitação da Internet mas, lentamente, começaram a adotar os meios digitais nas suas redações. A Internet aumentou a produtividade do jornalista, criou um novo tipo de jornalismo, com um formato diferente e regras próprias – o jornalismo online, e criou novos desafios às publicações impressas, principalmente ao nível da seleção de conteúdos. Além das alterações provocadas no jornalismo de Moda, a Internet levou à criação de uma nova classe profissional que também se dedica à criação de conteúdos online – os bloguers.The emergence of Internet has truly altered fashion journalism, changing the modus operandi of the journalist, the forms of operation of the newsroom, the production and the presentation of news content. This dissertation pretends to understand and interpret the changes that fashion journalism suffered in Portugal after the emergence of Internet, focusing mainly on women’s press with fashion contents and fashion magazines. This research comprises two main parts: the first corresponds to the theoretical framework which is supported by relevant literature; the second part includes the presentation of the empirical work and the interpretation of the fourteen semi-directive interviews with professionals that have shown relevant experience in the area of fashion and fashion journalism. The main findings prove that Portuguese fashion magazines showed resistance to the Internet at the time of its emergence. However, recently, newsrooms have slowly been adopting digital media which has increased fashion journalists’ productivity and created a new kind of journalism – the online journalism. This change has also led to new challenges for print publications, especially in terms of editorial selection. Moreover, the Internet has led to the formation of a new professional class that is also committed to the production of online fashion content – the bloggers

Portuguese Emigration Factbook 2016

It is confirmed that Portuguese emigration ceased to grow. However, it maintains values that are clearly higher than 100 thousand exits per year. The 2016 edition of the Factbook includes data updated to 2015 (or last year available) on total Portuguese emigration and for the main countries of destination, as well as on emigrants' remittances

In 2017, Portuguese emigration continued its sustained downward trend, with around 85 thousand individuals leaving the country. Overall, the decrease is strongly correlated with the recovery of the Portuguese economy, especially in terms of job creation, as well as the reduction in attraction of destination countries such as the United Kingdom and Angola. The 2018 edition of the Factbook includes data updated to 2017 (or last year available) on total Portuguese emigration and to the main destination countries, as well as on emigrants' remittances

Ensino de simetrias através da arte, da cultura e do patrimônio: uma formação de professores do 1º ciclo

O ensino de Simetrias no ensino básico pode ser viabilizado por uma grande quantidade de meios associados a uma diversidade de recursos ligados à arte, à cultura e ao patrimonial. Desta forma, favorece o desenvolvimento do espírito de observação e de percepção de regularidades por parte do educando, possibilitando que este exerça livremente sua criatividade. Contudo, este conteúdo foi excluso das formações inicias de professores. Um ensino de qualidade depende, para além das competências e do conhecimento científico dos professores, do entendimento docente sobre ensino e aprendizagem, reforçando a importância da formação de professores como via fulcral de melhoria de qualidade das aprendizagens. Neste artigo apresentaremos o plano de uma Oficina de Formação de Professores implementada em 2017 em Portugal com o objetivo de planificar, implementar e avaliar estratégias de ensino de Simetrias no 1º Ciclo da Educação Básica através de recursos artísticos, culturais e patrimoniais. Será ainda verificado se, através das metodologias utilizadas, alcança-se satisfação e percepção de aprendizagem profissional dos professores e a aquisição dos conceitos de Simetrias ao longo da formação. Esta Oficina de Formação e seus objetivos compõem partes de um projeto de pesquisa de doutoramento, ainda em andamento, sobre esta temática
