Aprendizaje cooperativo en cursos multidisciplinares

La enseñanza de contenidos técnicos en grupos multidisciplinares es una tarea compleja debido a la diversidad de los conocimientos iniciales de los alumnos implicados. Sin embargo esta dificultad puede llegar a convertirse en una poderosa herramienta. En este artículo se presenta la experiencia obtenida durante una asignatura de software libre impartida a un grupo multidisciplinar formado por alumnos de distintas carreras técnicas. La base de nuestra propuesta es obligar a los estudiantes a cooperar forzando grupos compuestos por alumnos de diferentes carreras. Este tipo de agrupación obliga a los alumnos a realizar trabajo cooperativo y aprendizaje entre iguales, lo que les permite desarrollar habilidades tanto técnicas como profesionales. Nuestros resultados muestran que con este enfoque se consiguen buenos resultados tanto en el aprendizaje como en la aceptación por parte de los alumnos de la asignatura y del método de enseñanza.Peer Reviewe

Cuerpo carotídeo y fisiopatología del SAOS: hipertensión

El cuerpo carotídeo (CC) es un pequeño órgano quimiorreceptor que se activa en situaciones de hipoxia, hipercapnia y acidosis plasmática, originando reflejos ventilatorios y cardiocirculatorios. La apnea obstructiva del sueño es un trastorno frecuente en el que los pacientes padecen de manera crónica interrupciones del flujo aéreo que conducen a modificaciones de los parámetros que activan el CC. Cuando estas modificaciones se prolongan en el tiempo suceden una serie de trastornos cardiocirculatorios, metabólicos y neurocognitivos. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo estudiar la participación del CC en la génesis de la hipertensión que constituye uno de los trastornos fundamentales en el síndrome de apnea obstructiva del sueño. Se ha revisado bibliografía sobre dicha participación y los mecanismos fisiopatológicos que desencadenan la hipertensión y que incluyen la activación del simpático y otras alteraciones vasculares como la disfunción endotelial.Grado en Medicin

On the minimum value of the condition number of polynomials

The condition number of a polynomial is a natural measure of the sensitivity of the roots under small perturbations of the polynomial coefficients. In 1993 Shub and Smale posed the problem of finding a sequence of univariate polynomials of degree N with condition number bounded above by N⁠. In Beltrán et al. (2021, A sequence of polynomials with optimal condition number. J. Amer. Math. Soc., 34, 219–244) it was proved that the optimal value of the condition number is of the form O(N−−√)⁠, and the sequence demanded by Shub and Smale was described by a closed formula for large enough N⩾N0 with N0 unknown, and by a search algorithm for the rest of the cases. In this paper we find concrete estimates for the constant hidden in the O(N−−√) term and we describe a simple formula for a sequence of polynomials whose condition number is at most N⁠, valid for all N=4M2⁠, with M a positive integer

Criteria for assessing dairy farm types

In Galicia and in the rest of Spain, dairy barns are going through a transition to implement the latest technologies, improve labour efficiency, and increase size. Barns with capacity for more cows are required due to the new market demands. Such barns must be perfectly defined, so that the construction of new buildings may entail reduced investment and operating costs. A wrong decision in the design phase can lead to serious financial trouble, even to the extent of making the farm economically non-viable. This study focuses in determining the factors that most strongly affect the construction costs of dairy housing, based on the most common barn designs in Galicia. Such factors are determined by implementing different indices that analyse the shape of the building. The implemented indices concern the design of the building –mainly its shape– and consider in all cases the relation of the design to the total cost and cost per item of the different constructions. Among these indices, the ‘ratio of area to perimeter squared’ or shape index (dimensionless), and elongation (ratio between the length and the width of the building), enable the determination of the shapes that are more convenient from the economic perspective. The cost of the building envelope per square meter varies as the barn area increases. The relation between the variation in the cost of the building envelope and both indices is studied for the different design options considered. With the data obtained, some guidelines are suggested in order to help project designers find the most appropriate result for their design work
