The purpose of this investigation was to determine the body composition and body type of 132 NCAA Division II baseball players. In addition, physical characteristics and body composition of subgroups were determined to see if the subgroups had distinct profiles. Body composition was assessed from measures of three skinfolds (chest, abdomen, and thigh) and age, by using the body density equation of Jackson and Pollock and Siri\u27 s percent body fat equation (McArdle, Katch & Katch. Exercise Physiology: Energy, Nutrition, and Human Performance 1981, 373). Somatotyping was assessed by use of the Heath-Carter Anthropometric Method. Descriptive statistics were applied to the data and one-way analyses of variance were conducted on selected variables to test the differences among subgroups. Tukey\u27 s test was conducted to test a posteriori comparison. Pitchers were found to be taller (M=183. 48) than in fielders (M=180.14) and outfielders (M=178.69). First basemen (M=185.19), third basemen (M=177.79) and shortstops (M=181.91) were found to be taller than second basemen (M=17 5. 30) . Second basemen (M=70. 96) were found to possess less weight than first basemen (M=84.42) and catchers (M=80.73) and to possess less lean body weight (M=61.71) than first basemen (M=73.61), third basemen (M=6·3.07), catchers (M=69.58) and short stops (M=68. 03). It was concluded that pitchers and first basemen were taller and weighed more than players of the other positions, and second basemen were shorter, weighed less and possessed less lean body weight than players of the other positions. There were no differences in percent body fat among the players of the various positions F(2,129)=3.35, p\u3e.05; F(4,55)=8.82, p\u3e.05; and, as a group, the players of the NCAA Division II had similar profiles in body composition when compared to major league baseball players. Pitchers\u27 mean somatoplot differed significantly from the mean somatoplot of outfielders as the pitchers displayed more endomorphy and less mesomorphy than did the outfielders

Codi: MI1040. Curs acadèmic: 2016-2017.The use of English as a lingua franca in Europe has increased the importance of language learning processes in modern education. Since an early age, English is introduced in the educational programmes. This research is focused in Betxí, a town from the Valencian Community, and a bilingual area where Valencian and Spanish are used daily. Since pre-school, children from this place have a plurilingual education, because they learn Valencian and Spanish as their mother tongues, plus English as a Third Language (L3). Some European research has demonstrated that being bilingual has some benefits over being monolingual when acquiring English as a L3. Thus, the main point of this research is to establish the benefits bilingual children from Betxí should have when acquiring English as a L3. However, this research deals with the following hypothesis: Did previous research really prove the benefits bilinguals should have when learning a L3? In this particular bilingual area, Valencian should be promoted, as well as every minority language in Europe. This study wants to show the benefits bilinguals have for promoting the use of minority languages in those bilingual places where other languages, such as Spanish in this case, play a primary role in society

Wiccan Marriage and American Marriage Law: Interactions

    Get PDF
This project considers the ways in which Wiccan marriage and American marriage law interact with each other. The thesis examines certain aspects of the history of 20th-century American marriage law, the concurrent development of contemporary marriage ritual in Wicca, developing problems in this area, and possible solutions. In particular, the project focuses on the recognition of religious groups and their officials as they are authorized by state and federal law to perform marriages and how this process has affected Wiccan ritual

The Needs of Patients in a Rural/Frontier Setting with Renal Insufficiency

The purpose of this study was to identify any needs patients with renal insufficiency living in a rural/frontier setting may have. A chart review was conducted in a rural health care facility of all patients with diagnostic code 593.9. The following questions were asked: What are the characteristics of the patients in this rural/frontier setting? What is the difference in their levels of renal insufficiency? What risk factors are related to the level of renal insufficiency? In what ways do their risk factors compare with those identified in literature? The results of this study were compared to what is stated in literature about the cause of renal insufficiency. After reviewing the data collected it was found that females were older, more likely to have congestive heart failure, and had higher glomelular filtration rates (GFR) than males at all four time periods. There was a significant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure and GFR over time. The significant predictors of GFR at Time 1 were younger age, higher systolic blood pressure, lower diastolic blood pressure, and more miles from the clinic. The results demonstrate the need for more aggressive management of hypertension by providers

    OnabotulinumtoxinA and multiple sclerosis.

Lower urinary tract dysfunction is present in two of three patients with multiple sclerosis five years after the diagnosis. Most frequent symptoms are related to neurogenic detrusor overactivity, often associated with detrusor-sphincter dyssynergia. From the end of the 1990s, there is growing evidence that neurogenic detrusor overactivity can be effectively managed by intradetrusorial injections of botulinum toxin type A. This treatment has shown, in different randomised placebo-controlled trials, to be safe and effective on clinical and urodynamic parameters with significant improvement in quality of life. The median duration of effect is in mean nine months. The vast majority of studies have been conducted with onabotulinumtoxinA. The dose of onabotulinumtoxinA commonly used to treat neurogenic detrusor overactivity in patients with multiple sclerosis is 200 UI, even if in selected patients lower doses can be preferred. To be considered eligible for treatment, all patients should accept and be instructed to perform clean intermittent self-catheterisation, since the risk of increased post-void residual volume and/or urinary retention after injection is high, especially with 200 UI of onabotulinumtoxinA. However, quality of life and patient satisfaction seem not to be affected by the need of intermittent catheterisation. The risk of urinary infection after the procedure is to be kept in mind, mainly in patients with multiple sclerosis, so that adequate antibiotic prophylaxis is highly recommended

How to Organize DevOps’ Teams in Customer Firms? A Comparative Case Analysis

    Get PDF
The issue of DevOps’ team structures has been seldom addressed in prior literature. Some scholars underlined certain teams' characteristics and proposed structure taxonomies. However, they hardly considered the effect of the firm's context on a structure choice, by only focusing on project-level influences in few studies. To cover this gap, we propose an organizational model for DevOps’ implementation within a consulting configuration. This setting is frequent in the current digital era and is particular as the partners differ in terms of digital maturity, cognition, and goals. We explored three cases in the public administration, telecommunications, and banking sectors. Data was collected through participant observation and semi-structured interviews and thematically analyzed with Nvivo. As results, we identify the key components of DevOps’ teams and highlight their synergies. We also contribute to academic literature and managerial practice by raising customer firms’ awareness on the contextual factors inducing variability on DevOps’ team structure
