Performance of a large limited streamer tube cell in drift mode
The performance of a large (3x3 ) streamer tube cell in drift mode is
shown. The detector space resolution has been studied using cosmic muons
crossing an high precision silicon telescope. The experimental results are

Response of Silicon photo-multipliers to a constant light flux
The response of a Silicon Photomultiplier to a constant illumination has been interpreted in term of Geiger- Mueller avalanche frequency, actually correlated to the photon flux via the photon detection efficiency. The hypothesis has been verified in laboratory tests and applied throughout the development of a device for real-time dosimetry in mammography
High resolution pixel detectors for e+e- linear colliders
The physics goals at the future e+e- linear collider require high performance
vertexing and impact parameter resolution. Two possible technologies for the
vertex detector of an experimental apparatus are outlined in the paper: an
evolution of the Hybrid Pixel Sensors already used in high energy physics

High Resolution Hybrid Pixel Sensors for the e+e- TESLA Linear Collider Vertex Tracker
In order to fully exploit the physics potential of a future high energy e+e-
linear collider, a Vertex Tracker, providing high resolution track
reconstruction, is required. Hybrid Silicon pixel sensors are an attractive
option, for the sensor technology, due to their read-out speed and radiation
hardness, favoured in the high rate environment of the TESLA e+e- linear
collider design but have been so far limited by the achievable single point
space resolution. In this paper, a conceptual design of the TESLA Vertex
Tracker, based on a novel layout of hybrid pixel sensors with interleaved cells

FSHD muscular dystrophy Region Gene 1 binds Suv4-20h1 histone methyltransferase and impairs myogenesis
Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD) is an autosomal dominant myopathy
with a strong epigenetic component. It is associated with deletion of a macrosatellite repeat leading
to over-expression of the nearby genes. Among them, we focused on FSHD Region Gene 1 (FRG1)
since its over-expression in mice, X. laevis and C. elegans leads to muscular dystrophy-like defects,
suggesting that FRG1 plays a relevant role in muscle biology. Here we show that, when overexpressed,
FRG1 binds and interferes with the activity of the histone methyltransferase Suv4-20h1
both in mammals and Drosophila. Accordingly, FRG1 over-expression or Suv4-20h1 knockdown
inhibits myogenesis. Moreover, Suv4-20h KO mice develop muscular dystrophy signs. Finally, we
identify the FRG1/Suv4-20h1 target Eid3 as a novel myogenic inhibitor that contributes to the
muscle differentiation defects. Our study suggests a novel role of FRG1 as epigenetic regulator of
muscle differentiation and indicates that Suv4-20h1 has a gene-specific function in myogenesis
AC-coupled GaAs microstrip detectors with a new type of integrated bias resistors
Full size single-sided GaAs microstrip detectors with integrated coupling
capacitors and bias resistors have been fabricated on 3'' substrate wafers.
PECVD deposited SiO_2 and SiO_2/Si_3N_4 layers were used to provide coupling
capacitaces of 32.5 pF/cm and 61.6 pF/cm, respectively. The resistors are made
of sputtered CERMET using simple lift of technique. The sheet resistivity of 78
kOhm/sq. and the thermal coefficient of resistance of less than 4x10^-3 /
degree C satisfy the demands of small area biasing resistors, working on a wide
