The Use of Electrochemical Noise in the Study of Nanometric Coatings
This chapter presents the study and analysis of the application of nanometric films of SS 304 and nanometric Al/Cr
and Cr/Al bilayers deposited on different aluminum and steel
alloys by magnetron sputtering and DC sputtering. The materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy
(SEM) and electrochemical noise in order to consider their application as high corrosion resistance coatings.
The corrosion behavior of the films was studied using a NaCl aqueous solution (3.5 wt%)

A innovative model of collaboration between a wine company and a university research
group is presented. A protocol was established as a response to the perceived need to, on the part of the university, (i) focus research on specific scientific bottlenecks which would have a real impact in the producing industry and, on the part of the company, (ii) to have access to
the scientific capacity to conduct in-depth studies to approach specific technical challenges. A closely managed programme was jointly established and the major characteristics are presented here together with the main results obtained during the first 2 and a half years of operation
The JCMT Legacy Survey of the Gould Belt: a first look at Orion B with HARP

Copyright Royal Astronomical Society.The Gould Belt Legacy Survey will survey nearby star-forming regions (within 500 pc), using Heterodyne Array Receiver Programme (HARP), Submillimetre Common-User Bolometer Array 2 and Polarimeter 2 on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope. This paper describes the initial data obtained using HARP to observe 12CO, 13CO and C18O J= 3 → 2 towards two regions in Orion B, NGC 2024 and NGC 2071. We describe the physical characteristics of the two clouds, calculating temperatures and opacities utilizing all the three isotopologues. We find good agreement between temperatures calculated from CO and from dust emission in the dense, energetic regions. We determine the mass and energetics of the clouds, and of the high-velocity material seen in 12CO emission, and compare the relative energetics of the high- and low-velocity material in the two clouds. We present a clumpfind analysis of the 13CO condensations. The slope of the condensation mass functions, at the high-mass ends, is similar to the slope of the initial mass function.Peer reviewe
Dynamical properties of liquid Al near melting. An orbital-free molecular dynamics study
The static and dynamic structure of liquid Al is studied using the orbital
free ab-initio molecular dynamics method. Two thermodynamic states along the
coexistence line are considered, namely T = 943 K and 1323 K for which X-ray
and neutron scattering data are available. A new kinetic energy functional,
which fulfills a number of physically relevant conditions is employed, along
with a local first principles pseudopotential. In addition to a comparison with
experiment, we also compare our ab-initio results with those obtained from
conventional molecular dynamics simulations using effective interionic pair
potentials derived from second order pseudopotential perturbation theory.Comment: 15 pages, 12 figures, 2 tables, submitted to PR
Universally Coupled Massive Gravity, II: Densitized Tetrad and Cotetrad Theories
Einstein's equations in a tetrad formulation are derived from a linear theory
in flat spacetime with an asymmetric potential using free field gauge
invariance, local Lorentz invariance and universal coupling. The gravitational
potential can be either covariant or contravariant and of almost any density
weight. These results are adapted to produce universally coupled massive
variants of Einstein's equations, yielding two one-parameter families of
distinct theories with spin 2 and spin 0. The theories derived, upon fixing the
local Lorentz gauge freedom, are seen to be a subset of those found by
Ogievetsky and Polubarinov some time ago using a spin limitation principle. In
view of the stability question for massive gravities, the proven non-necessity
of positive energy for stability in applied mathematics in some contexts is
recalled. Massive tetrad gravities permit the mass of the spin 0 to be heavier
than that of the spin 2, as well as lighter than or equal to it, and so provide
phenomenological flexibility that might be of astrophysical or cosmological

Compilation of parameterized seismogenic sources in Iberia for the SHARE European-scale seismic source model.
Abstract: SHARE (Seismic Hazard Harmonization in Europe) is an EC-funded project (FP7) that aims to evaluate European seismic hazards using an integrated, standardized approach. In the context of SHARE, we are compiling a fully-parameterized active fault database for Iberia and the nearby offshore region. The principal goal of this initiative is for fault sources in the Iberian region to be represented in SHARE and incorporated into the source model that will be used to produce seismic hazard maps at the European scale. The SHARE project relies heavily on input from many regional experts throughout the Euro-Mediterranean region. At the SHARE regional meeting for Iberia, the 2010 Working Group on Iberian Seismogenic Sources (WGISS) was established; these researchers are contributing to this large effort by providing their data to the Iberian regional integrators in a standardized format. The development of the SHARE Iberian active fault database is occurring in parallel with IBERFAULT, another ongoing effort to compile a database of active faults in the Iberian region.
The SHARE Iberian active fault database synthesizes a wide range of geological and geophysical observations on active seismogenic sources, and incorporates existing compilations (e.g., Cabral, 1995; Silva et al., 2008), original data contributed directly from researchers, data compiled from the literature, parameters estimated using empirical and analytical relationships, and, where necessary, parameters derived using expert judgment. The Iberian seismogenic source model derived for SHARE will be the first regional-scale source model for Iberia that includes fault data and follows an internationally standardized approach (Basili et al., 2008; 2009). This model can be used in both seismic hazard and risk analyses and will be appropriate for use in Iberian- and European-scale assessments

Rice plants, varieties IAC 25 and IAC 47, were grown in nutrient solution till the end of the life cycle when they were analysed both for macro and micronutrients.
