El ejemplo histórico en los discursos de Elio Aristides: el episodio de los heraldos de Darío en las Guerras Médicas (Panatenaico 97-100 Lenz-Behr)

In this paper, we study the use of the historical example in the Elio Aristides’oratory from a rhetoric perspective. Studies in this regard have been focused so far on historical matters and Quellenforschung. On the contrary, we start determining the persuasive speech components in general and the example (παράδειγμα) in particular, through the Rhetoric. Then, we analyze how certain topics and historical motifs (constituted as παραδείγματα, that is, models and precedents of the past with rhetoric value) integrate both the argumentative and the stylistic facets of the discourse. The historical example discussed here is the one that arose in the Panathenaic out of the episodes in Athens in 491 BC concerning the heralds sent to Greece by Darius at the beginning of the First Persian War.En este artículo estudiamos el uso del ejemplo histórico desde la perspectiva retórica en la oratoria de Elio Aristides. Los estudios al respecto se han dirigido hasta ahora a cuestiones propiamente históricas y de Quellenforschung. Nosotros partimos, sin embargo, de la determinación de los componentes persuasivos del discurso, en general, y del ejemplo (παράδειγμα), en particular, por el sistema de la Retórica. Analizamos, luego, cómo determinados temas y motivos históricos constituidos en παραδείγματα, esto es, en modelos y precedentes del pasado con valor retórico, se integran tanto en el tejido argumentativo como estilístico del discurso. El ejemplo histórico que analizamos aquí es el conformado en el Panatenaico con lo que sucedió en Atenas en el año 491 a. C. con los heraldos enviados a Grecia por Darío en los comienzos de la Primera Guerra Médica

La antigüedad como modelo: tradición clásica en <i>Generaciones y semblanzas</i> del humanista Fernán Pérez de Guzmán

La historiografía grecolatina había hecho de la biografía un género cuya materia, la vida y los hechos de un personaje ejemplar, se presentaba inseparable de la forma y las prescripciones de la retórica. En los siglos del Renacimiento, avalada por el prestigio de la antigüedad clásica y de su tradición, la biografía experimenta un gran impulso por su doble carácter moralizante y propagandístico en un contexto histórico en el que aristócratas y monarcas luchan con las armas y con las letras por la preeminencia. En este trabajo estudiaremos tanto las influencias de la biografía antigua, como el uso y la función de los motivos procedentes del mundo clásico en Generaciones y semblanzas de Fernán Pérez de Guzmán, uno de los escritores más importantes del primer humanismo español, autor al que se ha considerado un modelo de espontaneidad y originalidad.The Greco-Roman historiography converts biography into a genre whose subject, the life and deeds of an exemplary personage, was inseparable from the form and the requirements of rhetoric. Biography, while being backed by the prestige of classical antiquity and its tradition, experienced in Renaissance a major boost due to its double moralizing and propagandistic character in a historical context in which aristocrats and monarchs fought for preeminence with weapons and letters. In this paper we study the influences of ancient biography as well as the use and function of the motifs from the classical world in Fernán Pérez de Guzman’s Generaciones y semblanzas, one of the most important writers in the first Spanish humanism, author who has been considered a model of spontaneity and originality.Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educació

Apology for Dionysus: Dionysus in '69 (Brian De Palma / Richard Schechner, 1970),TheBacchae (BradMays, 2002) andV forVendetta (James McTeigue, 2005)

Dioniso es una divinidad singularmente extraña y enigmática. Los mitos que relatan su nacimiento del muslo de Zeus, su crianza entre las ninfas Híades, sus victoriosas campañas, sus amores con Ariadna, su séquito de panteras, sátiros y bacantes… han conformado una compleja saga que han hecho de él el dios del «entusiasmo», de la transgresión, de la transformación, …una especie de metasímbolo de la parte más obscura e irracional de la naturaleza humana. La presencia de Dioniso se comprueba a lo largo de nuestra historia cultural. En nuestro artículo estudiamos tres películas que basan su relato en los mitos y mitemas del dios del vino: Dionysus in '69 (Brian De Palma / Richard Schechner, 1970), The Bacchae (Brad Mays, 2002) y V for Vendetta (James McTeigue, 2005).Dionysus is a singularly strange and enigmatic divinity. The myths that relate his birth from the thigh of Zeus, his upbringing among the Hyades nymphs, his victorious campaigns, his love affairs with Ariadne, his entourage of panthers, satyrs and bacchantes… have formed a complex saga that has made him the god of "enthusiasm", of transgression, of transformation, …a kind of meta-symbol of the darkest and most irrational part of human nature. The presence of Dionysus is verified throughout our cultural history. In our paper we study three films basing their story on the myths and mythemes of the god of wine: Dionysus in '69 (Brian De Palma / Richard Schechner, 1970), The Bacchae (Brad Mays, 2002) and V for Vendetta (James McTeigue, 2005)

Annio de Viterbo y la Historiografía española del siglo XVI

Annio de Viterbo tuvo gran influencia en la historiografía española, tanto en los contenidos como en los métodos. Sus testimonios y comentarios dan a los orígenes de España y de su dinastía una perspectiva jamás soñada de antigüedad. Ciertamente la verdad y la historia no siempre han sido buenas compañeras. Y los Commentaria del viterbense vinieron muy bien en una época en que el concepto de monarquía nacional que, lentamente, surgía en ámbitos como España, Francia, o Inglaterra durante los siglos XV y XVI requería de la difusión de una imagen que cumpliera funciones representativas, conmemorativas y propagandística

Deciphering Genomic Heterogeneity and the Internal Composition of Tumour Activities through a Hierarchical Factorisation Model

Genomic heterogeneity constitutes one of the most distinctive features of cancer diseases, limiting the efficacy and availability of medical treatments. Tumorigenesis emerges as a strongly stochastic process, producing a variable landscape of genomic configurations. In this context, matrix factorisation techniques represent a suitable approach for modelling such complex patterns of variability. In this work, we present a hierarchical factorisation model conceived from a systems biology point of view. The model integrates the topology of molecular pathways, allowing to simultaneously factorise genes and pathways activity matrices. The protocol was evaluated by using simulations, showing a high degree of accuracy. Furthermore, the analysis with a real cohort of breast cancer patients depicted the internal composition of some of the most relevant altered biological processes in the disease, describing gene and pathway level strategies and their observed combinations in the population of patients. We envision that this kind of approaches will be essential to better understand the hallmarks of cancer.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Análisis de los factores determinantes del nivel de innovación en el sector hotelero español. Estudio según variable de segmentación

La investigación que se presenta en este trabajo estudia las relaciones que se producen entre ciertos factores determinantes del Proceso de Dirección Estratégica y la innovación en las organizaciones hoteleras con actividad en nuestro país, así como analiza la influencia del nivel de innovación sobre la ventaja competitiva y los resultados organizativos. El trabajo pretende aportar una serie de contribuciones tanto en el ámbito teórico como en el práctico. En el ámbito teórico, la novedad estriba en presentar las conexiones entre los factores que determinan el Proceso de Dirección Estratégica y su impacto en el nivel de innovación, que aunque presentan puntos de contacto evidentes, hasta el momento no han sido sometidos a un tratamiento integrador por parte de la literatura especializada. Para ello, el enfoque teórico basado en los Recursos y Capacidades constituye un marco teórico influyente y adecuado para entender esta conexión. Empíricamente, el análisis de las interrelaciones estratégicas entre ciertos factores del Modelo de Dirección Estratégica y el grado de innovación, así como su impacto en los resultados empresariales, ayudará a destacar la importancia de tratar la gestión de la innovación como una estrategia en sí misma, y a introducirlas en el modelo de pensamiento estratégico de las cadenas hoteleras con actividad en nuestro país.The research presented in this work in this work bases on the study of the relations which the determining factors of the Process of Strategic Management and Innovation in the hotel organizations in our country, as well as to analyze the influence of the innovation level on the competitive advantage and on the organizational results. Overall, this study aims to provide a range of contributions in both theoretical and practical. In the theoretical, the novelty lies in presenting the connections among the factors that determine the strategic direction process and its impact on the level of innovation, but have obvious points of contact, so far have not been subjected to integrative by the literature. For this, the theoretical approach based on the Resources and Capabilities is an influential and adequate theoretical framework for understanding this connection. Empirically, the analysis of the strategic interrelations between certain factors of the Model of Strategic Management and the degree of innovation, as well as its impact in the enterprise results, will help to emphasize the importance of dealing with the management the innovation like a strategy in itself, and to introduce them in the model of strategic thought of the hotel chains with activity in our country

Stress monitoring in conflict resolution situations

Online Dispute Resolution is steadily growing to become the major alternative to litigation in court. In fact, given the characteristics of current disputes, technology-based conflict resolution may be a quite efficient approach. However, in this shift of paradigm, there are also threats that should be considered. Specifically, in this paper we deal with the problem of the lack of important context information when parties communicate in a virtual setting. In that sense, we propose the addition of a monitoring framework capable of measuring the level of stress of the parties in a non-invasive way.
