Entre "uxor", "mater" y "concubina". Semblanza e identidad del emperador Constantino en la legislación tardoimperial

We aspire to shape the Constantine’s personality in particular by analyzing his loving relationship, first with Minervina and then with Fausta, and not forgetting the bond with his mother Helena, hence the reference to uxor, mater and concubina in our title. We will analyze if these women exercised any influence on the composition of his production rules and, if so, to what extent they were able to determine the historical development of the following decades. From this point of view we must consider in general the emperor had to combine their political claims and government with these relationships, showing great skill in handling times and ways, always putting the first to the second.Pretendemos perfilar la personalidad del emperador Constantino en especial mediante el análisis de su relación amorosa primero con Minervina y luego con Fausta y sin olvidar el vínculo afectivo con su madre Helena, de ahí la referencia a uxor, mater y concubina de nuestro título. Para ello analizaremos si ejercieron algún tipo de influencia en la composición de su producción normativa y si fue así en qué medida pudieron determinar el devenir histórico de las siguientes décadas. Considérese al respecto que en general Constantino tuvo que conjugar sus pretensiones políticas y de gobierno con estas relaciones, mostrando gran destreza en el manejo de los tiempos y las formas, eso sí, anteponiendo siempre lo primero a lo segundo

Como sucede con otros componentes de la Hispania tardoantigua, también en el caso de los navicularii Hispaniarum se hace obligado recurrir, ante la escasez de información, a datos de carácter genérico para reconstruir sus características principales. IV d.C. como son la Tabula Peutingeriana y el Codex Theodosianus, habida cuenta de que existe una falta de correspondencia entre la representación gráfica de dichos centros en el primero y su protagonismo como lugares de emisión de constituciones imperiales en el segundo.In this work we try to compare the information alluding to specific towns in the Tabula Peutingeriana and the Codex Theodosianus, two important documentary sources for the historical context of mid-fourth century A.D. Princeps salutaris and saluberrima lex : The language of the health and the defence of legitimacy in the political discourse of the Late Roman power

Nuestra propuesta analiza la longevidad de prácticas relacionadas con el empleo de metáforas y alegorías vinculadas al adecuado ejercicio del poder, focalizando el interés las asociadas con el empleo de un léxico relacionado con el ámbito de la salud. En ese sentido ha de contarse entre las técnicas usadas para enfatizar la defensa de legitimidad en las tareas de gobierno. Se trata de una cuestión que puede observarse en particular en dos de los vehículos de expresión oficial empleados a tal fin en tiempos tardoimperiales: la literatura de corte epidíctico y las constituciones imperiales. Pero además el lenguaje de la salud será de utilidad para desprestigiar y descalificar a quienes por el contrario sean representados como alteradores del orden.Our proposal analyzes the longevity of practices related to the use of metaphors and allegories linked to the proper exercise of power, focusing interest on those associated with the use of a lexicon connected to the field of health. In this sense, it must be counted among the techniques used to emphasize the defense of legitimacy in government tasks. This is an issue that can be observed particularly in two of the vehicles of official expression employed for this purpose in the Later Roman Empire: literature of an epidictic nature and imperial constitutions. In addition, the language of health will be useful to discredit and disqualify those who, on the contrary, are represented as public nuisances.

Reflections about perception and idea of the border in the Hispania of Fifth Century A.D.

Although the news about the Hispania of the Fifth century  a.D. are scarce, we can consider that during that century it would be progressively lost by the roman authority, generating inside a border space that, although initially not recognized by the imperial power, would be undeniable from an administrative and legal point of view. in any case, the definition, evolution and concretion of this border is a complex task, being a difficult question to determine.Aunque las noticias sobre la Hispania del s. V d. c. son escasas puede afirmarse que durante esa centuria progresivamente se asistirá a su pérdida por la autoridad romana, generándose en su seno un espacio fronterizo que, aunque inicialmente no sea reconocido por el poder imperial, resultaría innegable desde un punto de vista administrativo y jurídico.
