    The canonical 8-form on manifolds with holonomy group Spin(9)

    An explicit expression of the canonical 8-form on a Riemannian manifold with a Spin(9)-structure, in terms of the nine local symmetric involutions involved, is given. The list of explicit expressions of all the canonical forms related to Berger's list of holonomy groups is thus completed. Moreover, some results on Spin(9)-structures as G-structures defined by a tensor and on the curvature tensor of the Cayley planes, are obtained

    The population of deformed bands in 48^{48}Cr by emission of 8^{8}Be from the 32^{32}S + 24^{24}Mg reaction

    Using particle-γ\gamma coincidences we have studied the population of final states after the emission of 2 α\alpha-particles and of 8^{8}Be in nuclei formed in 32^{32}S+24^{24}Mg reactions at an energy of EL(32S)=130MeV\textrm{E}_{\rm L}(^{32}\textrm{S}) = 130 {\rm MeV}. The data were obtained in a setup consisting of the GASP γ\gamma-ray detection array and the multidetector array ISIS. Particle identification is obtained from the Δ\DeltaE and E signals of the ISIS silicon detector telescopes, the 8^{8}Be being identified by the instantaneous pile up of the Δ\DeltaE and E pulses. γ\gamma-ray decays of the 48^{48}Cr nucleus are identified with coincidences set on 2 α\alpha-particles and on 8^{8}Be. Some transitions of the side-band with Kπ=4K^\pi=4^{-} show stronger population for 8^{8}Be emission relative to that of 2 α\alpha-particles (by a factor 1.51.81.5-1.8). This observation is interpreted as due to an enhanced emission of 8^{8}Be into a more deformed nucleus. Calculations based on the extended Hauser-Feshbach compound decay formalism confirm this observation quantitatively.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures accepted for publication in J. Phys.

    πNN\pi NN coupling determined beyond the chiral limit

    Within the conventional QCD sum rules, we calculate the πNN\pi NN coupling constant, gπNg_{\pi N}, beyond the chiral limit using two-point correlation function with a pion. We consider the Dirac structure, iγ5i\gamma_5, at mπ2m_\pi^2 order, which has clear dependence on the PS and PV coupling schemes for the pion-nucleon interactions. For a consistent treatment of the sum rule, we include the linear terms in quark mass as they constitute the same chiral order as mπ2m_\pi^2. Using the PS coupling scheme for the pion-nucleon interaction, we obtain gπN=13.3±1.2g_{\pi N}=13.3\pm 1.2, which is very close to the empirical πNN\pi NN coupling. This demonstrates that going beyond the chiral limit is crucial in determining the coupling and the pseudoscalar coupling scheme is preferable from the QCD point of view.Comment: 8 pages, revtex, some errors are corrected, substantially revise

    Different Responses in Mandarin Cultivars Uncover a Role of Cuticular Waxes in the Resistance to Citrus Canker

    [EN] 'Okitsu' is a mandarin cultivar showing substantial resistance to X. citri subsp. citri (X. citri). We have previously shown that this cultivar has significantly lower canker incidence and severity than 'Clemenules', particularly during early stages of leaf development in the field. This differential response is only seen when the leaves are inoculated by spraying, suggesting that leaf surface contributes to resistance. In this work, we have studied structural and chemical properties of leaf surface barriers of both cultivars. Ultrastructural analysis showed a thicker cuticle covering epidermal surface and guard cells in young 'Okitsu' leaves than in 'Clemenules'. This thicker cuticle was associated with a smaller stomatal aperture and reduced cuticle permeability. These findings correlated with an accumulation of cuticular wax components, including primary alcohols, alkanes, and fatty acids. None of these differences were observed in mature leaves, where both cultivars are equally resistant to the bacterium. Remarkably, mechanical alteration of cuticular thickness of young 'Okitsu' leaves allows canker development. Furthermore, cuticular waxes extracted from young 'Okitsu' leaves have higher antibacterial activity against X. citri than 'Clemenules'. Taken together, these data suggest that a faster development of epicuticular waxes in 'Okitsu' leaves play a central role in its resistance to X. citri.This work was mainly supported by the Agencia Nacional de Promoción Cientifica y Tecnologica (PICT-2016-1222) to M.     Performance of the Fully Digital FPGA-based Front-End Electronics for the GALILEO Array

    In this work we present the architecture and results of a fully digital Front End Electronics (FEE) read out system developed for the GALILEO array. The FEE system, developed in collaboration with the Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) collaboration, is composed of three main blocks: preamplifiers, digitizers and preprocessing electronics. The slow control system contains a custom Linux driver, a dynamic library and a server implementing network services. The digital processing of the data from the GALILEO germanium detectors has demonstrated the capability to achieve an energy resolution of 1.53 per mil at an energy of 1.33 MeV.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, preprint version of IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science paper submitted for the 19th IEEE Real Time Conferenc

    Transition probabilities in the X(5) candidate 122^{122}Ba

    To investigate the possible X(5) character of 122Ba, suggested by the ground state band energy pattern, the lifetimes of the lowest yrast states of 122Ba have been measured, via the Recoil Distance Doppler-Shift method. The relevant levels have been populated by using the 108Cd(16O,2n)122Ba and the 112Sn(13C,3n)122Ba reactions. The B(E2) values deduced in the present work are compared to the predictions of the X(5) model and to calculations performed in the framework of the IBA-1 and IBA-2 models

    Band termination in the N=Z Odd-Odd Nucleus 46V

    High spin states in the odd-odd N=Z nucleus 46V have been identified. At low spin, the T=1 isobaric analogue states of 46Ti are established up to I = 6+. Other high spin states, including the band terminating state, are tentatively assigned to the same T=1 band. The T=0 band built on the low-lying 3+ isomer is observed up to the 1f7/2-shell termination at I=15. Both signatures of a negative parity T=0 band are observed up to the terminating states at I = 16- and I = 17-, respectively. The structure of this band is interpreted as a particle-hole excitation from the 1d3/2 shell. Spherical shell model calculations are found to be in excellent agreement with the experimental results.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

    Binary reaction decays from 24Mg+12C

    Charged particle and gamma decays in 24Mg* are investigated for excitation energies where quasimolecular resonances appear in 12C+12C collisions. Various theoretical predictions for the occurence of superdeformed and hyperdeformed bands associated with resonance structures with low spin are discussed within the measured 24Mg* excitation energy region. The inverse kinematics reaction 24Mg+12C is studied at E_lab(24Mg) = 130 MeV, an energy which enables the population of 24Mg states decaying into 12C+12C resonant break-up states. Exclusive data were collected with the Binary Reaction Spectrometer in coincidence with EUROBALL IV installed at the VIVITRON Tandem facility at Strasbourg. Specific structures with large deformation were selectively populated in binary reactions and their associated gamma decays studied. Coincident events associated with inelastic and alpha-transfer channels have been selected by choosing the excitation energy or the entry point via the two-body Q-values. The analysis of the binary reaction channels is presented with a particular emphasis on 24Mg-gamma, 20Ne-gamma and 16O-gamma coincidences. New information (spin and branching ratios) is deduced on high-energy states in 24Mg and 16O, respectively.Comment: 27 pages, 8 figures, 1 tabl
