Intermixing at the InxSy/Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 Heterojunction and Its Impact on the Chemical and Electronic Interface Structure
We report on the chemical and electronic structure of the interface between a thermally co-evaporated InxSy buffer and a Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (CZTSSe) absorber for thin-film solar cells. To date, such cells have achieved energy conversion efficiencies up to 8.6%. Using surface-sensitive X-ray and UV photoelectron spectroscopy, combined with inverse photoemission and bulk-sensitive soft X-ray emission spectroscopy, we find a complex character of the buffer layer. It includes oxygen, as well as selenium and copper that diffused from the absorber into the InxSy buffer, exhibits an electronic band gap of 2.50 ± 0.18 eV at the surface, and leads to a small cliff in the conduction band alignment at the InxSy/CZTSSe interface. After an efficiency-increasing annealing step at 180 °C in nitrogen atmosphere, additional selenium diffusion leads to a reduced band gap at the buffer layer surface (2.28 ± 0.18 eV)
Sex differences in the functional connectivity of the amygdalae in association with cortisol
Human amygdalae are involved in various behavioral functions such as affective and stress processing. For these behavioral functions, as well as for psychophysiological arousal including cortisol release, sex differences are reported. Here, we assessed cortisol levels and resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) of left and right amygdalae in 81 healthy participants (42 women) to investigate potential modulation of amygdala rsFC by sex and cortisol concentration. Our analyses revealed that rsFC of the left amygdala significantly differed between women and men: Women showed stronger rsFC than men between the left amygdala and left middle temporal gyrus, inferior frontal gyrus, postcentral gyrus and hippocampus, regions involved in face processing, inner-speech, fear and pain processing. No stronger connections were detected for men and no sex difference emerged for right amygdala rsFC. Also, an interaction of sex and cortisol appeared: In women, cortisol was negatively associated with rsFC of the amygdalae with striatal regions, mid-orbital frontal gyrus, anterior cingulate gyrus, middle and superior frontal gyri, supplementary motor area and the parietalâoccipital sulcus. Contrarily in men, positive associations of cortisol with rsFC of the left amygdala and these structures were observed. Functional decoding analyses revealed an association of the amygdalae and these regions with emotion, reward and memory processing, as well as action execution. Our results suggest that functional connectivity of the amygdalae as well as the regulatory effect of cortisol on brain networks differs between women and men. These sex-differences and the mediating and sex-dependent effect of cortisol on brain communication systems should be taken into account in affective and stress-related neuroimaging research. Thus, more studies including both sexes are required
Double-beta decay of Te to the first 0 excited state of Xe with CUORICINO
The CUORICINO experiment was an array of 62 TeO single-crystal
bolometers with a total Te mass of kg. The experiment finished
in 2008 after more than 3 years of active operating time. Searches for both
and double-beta decay to the first excited state in
Xe were performed by studying different coincidence scenarios. The
analysis was based on data representing a total exposure of
N(Te)t=y. No evidence for a signal was
found. The resulting lower limits on the half lives are y (90% C.L.), and
y (90%
C.L.).Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure
Graph-Controlled Insertion-Deletion Systems
In this article, we consider the operations of insertion and deletion working
in a graph-controlled manner. We show that like in the case of context-free
productions, the computational power is strictly increased when using a control
graph: computational completeness can be obtained by systems with insertion or
deletion rules involving at most two symbols in a contextual or in a
context-free manner and with the control graph having only four nodes.Comment: In Proceedings DCFS 2010, arXiv:1008.127
Drip and Mate Operations Acting in Test Tube Systems and Tissue-like P systems
The operations drip and mate considered in (mem)brane computing resemble the
operations cut and recombination well known from DNA computing. We here
consider sets of vesicles with multisets of objects on their outside membrane
interacting by drip and mate in two different setups: in test tube systems, the
vesicles may pass from one tube to another one provided they fulfill specific
constraints; in tissue-like P systems, the vesicles are immediately passed to
specified cells after having undergone a drip or mate operation. In both
variants, computational completeness can be obtained, yet with different
constraints for the drip and mate operations
Transdiagnostic commonalities and differences in resting state functional connectivity of the default mode network in schizophrenia and major depression
Schizophrenia and depression are prevalent psychiatric disorders, but their underlying neural bases remains poorly understood. Neuroimaging evidence has pointed towards the relevance of functional connectivity aberrations in defaultmode network (DMN) hubs, dorso-medial prefrontal cortex and precuneus, in both disorders, but commonalities and differences in resting state functional connectivity of those two regions across disorders has not been formally assessed. Here, we took a transdiagnostic approach to investigate resting state functional connectivity of those two regions in 75 patients with schizophrenia and 82 controls from 4 scanning sites and 102 patients with depression and 106 controls from 3 sites. Our results demonstrate common dysconnectivity patterns as indexed by a significant reduction of functional connectivity between precuneus and bilateral superior parietal lobe in schizophrenia and depression. Furthermore, our findings highlight diagnosis-specific connectivity reductions of the parietal operculum in schizophrenia relative to depression. In light of evidence that points towards the importance of the DMN for social cognitive abilities and well documented impairments of social interaction in both patient groups, it is conceivable that the observed transdiagnostic connectivity alterations may contribute to interpersonal difficulties, but this could not be assessed directly in our study as measures of social behavior were not available. Given the operculum's role in somatosensory integration, diagnosis-specific connectivity reductions may indicate a pathophysiological mechanism for basic self-disturbances that is characteristic of schizophrenia, but not depression. Validation of techniques to mitigate copper surface contamination in CUORE
In this article we describe the background challenges for the CUORE
experiment posed by surface contamination of inert detector materials such as
copper, and present three techniques explored to mitigate these backgrounds.
Using data from a dedicated test apparatus constructed to validate and compare
these techniques we demonstrate that copper surface contamination levels better
than 10E-07 - 10E-08 Bq/cm2 are achieved for 238U and 232Th. If these levels
are reproduced in the final CUORE apparatus the projected 90% C.L. upper limit
on the number of background counts in the region of interest is 0.02-0.03
counts/keV/kg/y depending on the adopted mitigation technique.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, 6 table
Search for 14.4 keV solar axions from M1 transition of Fe-57 with CUORE crystals
We report the results of a search for axions from the 14.4 keV M1 transition
from Fe-57 in the core of the sun using the axio-electric effect in TeO2
bolometers. The detectors are 5x5x5 cm3 crystals operated at about 10 mK in a
facility used to test bolometers for the CUORE experiment at the Laboratori
Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy. An analysis of 43.65 kg d of data was made
using a newly developed low energy trigger which was optimized to reduce the
detectors energy threshold. An upper limit of 0.63 c kg-1 d-1 was established
at 95% C.L.. From this value, a lower bound at 95% C.L. was placed on the
Peccei-Quinn energy scale of fa >= 0.76 10**6 GeV for a value of S=0.55 for the
flavor-singlet axial vector matrix element. Bounds are given for the interval
0.15 < S < 0.55.Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures, submitted to JCA
The low energy spectrum of TeO2 bolometers: results and dark matter perspectives for the CUORE-0 and CUORE experiments
We collected 19.4 days of data from four 750 g TeO2 bolometers, and in three
of them we were able to set the energy threshold around 3 keV using a new
analysis technique. We found a background rate ranging from 25 cpd/keV/kg at 3
keV to 2 cpd/keV/kg at 25 keV, and a peak at 4.7 keV. The origin of this peak
is presently unknown, but its presence is confirmed by a reanalysis of 62.7
kg.days of data from the finished CUORICINO experiment. Finally, we report the
expected sensitivities of the CUORE0 (52 bolometers) and CUORE (988 bolometers)
experiments to a WIMP annual modulation signal.Comment: 9 pages, 10 figure
