Broadband, Stable, and Non-Iterative Dielectric Constant Measurement of Low-Loss Dielectric Slabs Using a Frequency-Domain Free-Space Method
A broadband, stable, and non-iterative free-space method is proposed for dielectric constant ε′r determination of low-loss dielectric slabs from reflection-only measurements through simple calibration standards (reflect and air). It is applicable for dispersive samples and does not require thickness information. Simulations of non-disperive and dispersive samples are performed to validate our method. Dielectric constant measurements of polyethylene and Polyoxymethylene samples (9–11 GHz) are carried out to examine the accuracy of our method. IEE
Measurement of ϒ production in pp collisions at √s = 2.76 TeV
The production of Ï’(1S), Ï’(2S) and Ï’(3S)
mesons decaying into the dimuon final state is studied with
the LHCb detector using a data sample corresponding to an
integrated luminosity of 3.3 pb−1 collected in proton–proton
collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 2.76 TeV. The
differential production cross-sections times dimuon branching
fractions are measured as functions of the Ï’ transverse
momentum and rapidity, over the ranges pT < 15 GeV/c
and 2.0 < y < 4.5. The total cross-sections in this kinematic
region, assuming unpolarised production, are measured to be
σ (pp → ϒ(1S)X) × B
ϒ(1S)→μ+μ−
= 1.111 ± 0.043 ± 0.044 nb,
σ (pp → ϒ(2S)X) × B
ϒ(2S)→μ+μ−
= 0.264 ± 0.023 ± 0.011 nb,
σ (pp → ϒ(3S)X) × B
ϒ(3S)→μ+μ−
= 0.159 ± 0.020 ± 0.007 nb,
where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic
The evaluation of myomectomies performed during cesarean section in our clinic
Background: We evaluated the data of patients who had applied myomectomy during cesarean section operation in our clinic between April, 2008 and December, 2010. Objective: In this period, 3689 cesarean sections were done in our clinic, we analyzed their data retrospectively and determined 27 myomectomy cases during cesarean section operation. The age of the patients, the numbers of pregnancy, parities, the rates of abortus, indications of cesarean, pregnancy weeks, residential areas of myoms detected during the cesarean and their size, were recorded. Furthermore, pre-operative and post-operative hemoglobin (Hb) values, differences between hemoglobin values, whether there was bleeding or not, the need of blood transfusion if it occurred, the duration of operation and hospitaization and the pathological diagnoses of myomectomy materials, were examined. Materials and Methods: Retrospective study of myomectomies. Results: The mean age of patients was 29.6±5.9 (19-42) and mean gestational age was 39.2±1.0(37-42) weeks. The mean size of the fibroids was 5.94±6.29 cm3 (0.96-26.50 cm3). Subserous myoms were the most frequently seen ones (24 of 27 patients=89%) with fundal, corporal localizations in most of the instances. The pre-operative and post-operative values of Hb were 11.8±1.52 (8.6-10.5) and 10.3±2.6 (6.9-13.3) g/dl respectively and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.001). Blood transfusion was not necessary in any patient. The mean duration of the operation was found to be 40.7±13.9 (13-60) minutes. Conclusion: Myomectomies can be performed safely during cesarean section by experienced obstetricians and gynecologists, and myomectomy performed for fibroids in appropriate localizations does not increase post-operative bleeding or maternal morbidity or mortality.Key words: Cesarean section, myomectomy, pregnanc
The effect of mesh size and cod end material on the mortality and yield of the rose shrimp, Parapenaeus longirostris (Lucas, 1846) (Decapoda, Penaeidae) in the Turkish beam trawl fishery
Mortality and yield parameters of the rose shrimp, Parapenaeus longirostris were compared with length frequency data collected from the beam trawl fishery in the Sea of Marmara. Von Bertalanffy parameters were estimated as L infinity=16.28 cm and K=0.490 year(-1). The rates of total (Z), natural (M), and fishing (F) mortalitiy were calculated as 2.83, 0.97, and 1.86 for a 32 mm PE (polyethylene) cod end. The Z and F rates for two other cod ends, 32 mm PA (polyamide) and 36 mm PA, were, respectively, 2.13 and 1.16, versus 1.57 and 0.60. A study on the relative yield per recruit shows that maximum yield can be obtained at an exploitation rate (E) of 0.53, 0.52, and 0.45, respectively, for 32 PE, 32 PA, and 36 PA cod ends, whereas the current E values are 0.65, 0.54, and 0.38. Consequently, 32 mm PE and PA cod ends cause overfishing pressure on the stock of P. longirostris
Length-based estimates of growth parameters, mortality rates, and recruitment of Astacus leptodactylus (Eschscholtz, 1823) (Decapoda, Astacidae) in unexploited inland waters of the northern Marmara region, European Turkey)
WOS: 000248819500002The growth parameters, mortality rates, and recruitment pattern of Astacus leptodactylus from an unexploited area in inland waters of the northern Marmara region were investigated based on length-frequency data using FISAT software. Specimens were collected during eight scientific samplings carried out between March 2005 and May 2006. The seasonalized Von Bertalanffy growth function was fitted to the length frequency data (n = 2434) with the following parameters: L-infinity = 80.8 mm, K = 0.405 year(-1), C = 1, and WP = 0.90. The study of functional regressions permits us to conclude that the growth of this population is allometric. Natural mortality (M) was estimated at 0.578 year(-1)and total mortality at 0.589 year(-1). The longevity of the crayfish was calculated as t (max) = 7.4 year. The recruitment pattern shows that there is peak recruitment in May and June. We also estimated the potential instantaneous fishing mortality coefficient at F = 1.53-1.63 year(-1), the instantaneous total mortality coefficient at Z = 2.11-2.21 year(-1), and the exploitation rate E = 0.72-0.73, all through the length-converted catch curve procedure using the length-frequency data of the fyke-nets of 32 mm polyamide (PA) mesh size (stretched mesh)
