Qual a imagem queos alunos detêm do profissional professor? What is the image teachers' have of themselves as professionals? Does it resist the time, borders cultures or not? What is the image students have of teachers' as professionals? Does it resist the time, borders cultures or not? Are these images similar or dissimilar? These are the questions that made this study happen. Taking into consideration that teachers' are persons that work with, on and for persons, that they are constituted through past, present and future experiences that they share with others, the concepts of social representation, identity, teaching profession, the way they are professionally socialized, the meaning of work, the professional lifecycle, pedagogical practices, communication, leadership, teachers' cultures, the meaning of to be a good teacher, where some of the tools used to try to understand the way teachers and students see the professional teacher.Quantitative and qualitative analysis of data collected among teachers and pupils from the North to the South of Portugal by the use of three enquires is made.Comparative analysis among teachers and students national and international studies (USA, France, Israel and United Kingdom) conducted between the 40's and the 90's is produced

Teaching Practices and School Climate: The Portuguese Students’ Views

    Get PDF
Considering that organizational climate corresponds to what organizational actors mostly represent and with regard to their organization and taking into account that the most intense student experiences occur within the classroom, we wanted to know whether student views on teachers’ leadership and practices are related to what they perceive as school climate. The students came from schools all over Portugal, including Madeira. Regarding teaching practices, we focused our attention on the following dimensions: teaching; support to learning control; lack of support for individual work; use of methods that engage students differently in their work. As regards school climate, we considered the following dimensions: colleagues, teachers and class director relations; equity; safety; working conditions. Teachers’ leadership and educational practices have highly significant statistical relations with the different dimensions of school climate. Students stress that teachers who are democratic leaders use educational practices viewed as democratic classroom strategies. Moreover, the quality of the relationships they develop with their colleagues, teachers and class directors are pertinent to the consideration of a positive school climate. Equity, safety and working conditions also significantly contribute to the consideration of a positive school climate. The results show that teachers and school leaders need to continue to reflect upon classroom working practices

rebuilding the separation between the State and the Church

UID/HIS/04209/2019What were the means of religious regulation, and more specifically, what were the terms for the institutionalisation of the Catholic Church that the Portuguese authoritarian state adopted? This article adopts a new historiographic interpretation on these questions in order to emphasise both the experience of restructuring the separation and defending the persistence of secularism in the political and cultural debate over the course of the 20th century in Portugal. This argument moves away from the until recently dominant perspective that there was prevailing in Portugal that phenomenon termed “clerical fascism” that some of the literature deems to have been generalised across the dictatorial regimes of Europe between the World Wars.publishersversionpublishe

Community philanthropy: the missing link between local communities and international development

    Get PDF
This paper is based on the premise that local populations? engagement in development processes is a key factor to increase chances of sustainable economic and social development. In this context, we present collaboration with community philanthropy organizations as a viable strategy for international development organizations to engage civil society in the advancement and sustainability of development goals. This is done by presenting an overview of the development sector, as well as the added-value of community philanthropy. Then practical lessons and challenges are drawn from stories of different community philanthropy and international development organizations that have experience working together

    Get PDF

Effect of different conditions of growth and storage on the cell counts of two lactic acid bacteria after spray drying in orange juice

    Get PDF
Consumers increasingly require innovative food products with health benefits. Thus, a dried orange juice incorporating probiotics could be a novel challenge. In this context, we investigated whether different sugars added to the culture media used for growth of two lactic acid bacteria contributed to their protection during spray drying in orange juice and subsequent storage under different conditions of temperature, light exposure and water activity. Cell viability during passage through simulated gastro-intestinal conditions was also investigated. Cells grown in culture medium containing fructose resulted in the worst survival rates during storage. High survival was observed for cells grown in the presence of lactose, followed by glucose. The survival of dried bacteria was enhanced at 4 C, water activity of 0.03 and absence of daylight. For cells grown in standard culture medium and after 12 months of storage at 4 C in orange juice powder (about 109 cfu/mL), there was a reduction of approximately 2 log-units for both lactic acid bacteria after gastro-intestinal tract passage simulation. Using the conditions of growth and storage investigated, it is possible to improve the survival rate of lactic acid bacteria and produce an orange juice powder with probiotic characteristics with shelf life of at least 12 months.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

POLÍTICA PÚBLICA DE ENSINO A DISTÂNCIA NO BRASIL E SUA EXPANSÃO PARA MOÇAMBIQUE DENTRO DAS EXPERIÊNCIAS E POLÍTICAS INTERNACIONAIS

    Get PDF

The work here presented concerns the preliminary result of Project AGRO 689 “Agronomic, economic and environmental interest of macrofungi associated with pinus (Pinus pinaster), chestnut (Castanea sativa) and oak (Quercus pyrenaica), in the Northeast of Portugal: Production of mycorrhizal, pinus, chestnut and oak plants”. We intend to evaluate the diversity of macrofungi associated with each habitat and to get insight into the differences between mycorrhizal and nonmycorrhizal species as well as of edible and non-edible ones. Edible mycorrhizal and nonedible mycorrhizal ratios will also be calculated in order to know the impact of their collection in either ecological or economical aspects. During the two seasons of collection (Autumn 2004 and Spring 2005), oak habitat showed the highest number of species and carpophores while pinus was the poorest habitat either in terms of number of species and of carpophores. We discuss the results obtained, comparing the three habitats in terms of biodiversity and potential economical interest of edible macrofungi collection and of ratio of the different trophic levels. We intend to contribute for the evaluation of risk assessment of overcollection of edible species and to a sustainable macrofungi management. The work here presented concerns the preliminary results of Project AGRO 689 "Agronomic, economic and environmental interest of macrofungi associated with pinus (Pinus pinaster), chestnut (Castanea sativa) and oak (Quercus pyrenaica), in the Northeast of Portugal: Production of mycorrhizal pinus, chestnut and oak plants" We intend to evaluate the biodiversity ot"macrofungi associated with each habitat and to get insight into the differences between mycorrhizal and nonmycorrhizal species as well as of edible and non edible ones.
