However, facial stimuli are often only validated by adults, and there are no face databases validated by school-aged children. Validation by children is important because children still develop emotion recognition skills and may have different perceptions than adults. Therefore, in this study, we validated the adult Caucasian faces of the Radboud Faces Database (RaFD) in 8- to 12-year-old children (N = 652). Additionally, children rated valence, clarity, and model attractiveness. Emotion recognition rates were relatively high (72%; compared to 82% in the original validation by adults). Recognition accuracy was highest for happiness, below average for fear and disgust, and lowest for contempt. Children showed roughly the same emotion recognition pattern as adults, but were less accurate in distinguishing similar emotions. As expected, in general, 10- to 12-year-old children had a higher emotion recognition accuracy than 8- and 9-year-olds. Overall, girls slightly outperformed boys. More nuanced differences in these gender and age effects on recognition rates were visible per emotion. The current study provides researchers with recommendation on how to use the RaFD adult pictures in child studies.     Implicit Measures of Teachers' Attitudes and Stereotypes, and their Effects on Teacher Practice and Student Outcomes: A Review

    In this paper, research on implicitly measured teacher associations with social groups of students (attitudes and stereotypes) is reviewed. The aim of this review is to describe the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of the use of implicit measures in educational research, to summarize the research completed so far in which implicit measures have been used, how implicitly measured attitudes and stereotypes are related to different teacher factors and student outcomes, and to discuss challenges and directions for future research on implicit measures and their effects. A total of 49 studies was reviewed. These studies show that the use of implicit measures of teacher attitudes and stereotypes has great potential for the understanding of differential treatment of students by their teachers, but also that this line of research needs further development, with more focus on the validation of implicit measures and study designs in experimental and field settings

    Near-infrared fluorescence-guided metastasectomy for hepatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor metastases using indocyanine green: a case report

    INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are the most prevalent mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. Distant metastases are most often found in the liver or peritoneum with surgery being the preferred treatment option. In our center, fluorescence-guided surgery with indocyanine green is used as standard-of-care for hepatic metastases in colorectal cancer. This case report describes fluorescence-guided metastasectomy for a hepatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor in two patients undergoing open liver resection and radiofrequency ablation.CASE PRESENTATION: A 69-year old women was seen during follow-up after laparoscopic resection of a GIST in the lesser curvature of the stomach. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography imaging showed two suspicious lesions in liver segment VI and VIII. Intraoperative near-infrared fluorescence imaging of the liver clearly revealed the lesion in segment VIII, and an additional lesion in segment V - which was not seen on preoperative CT-imaging, neither on intraoperative ultrasonography. The lesion in segment VI was not seen with NIRF imaging due to its deeper location in the liver parenchyma. The second case is an 82-year old man who was also diagnosed with liver metastases from a GIST in the stomach and was scheduled for near-infrared fluorescence-guided liver resection and radio frequency ablation.CLINICAL DISCUSSION: In this case report we demonstrated the feasibility of fluorescence-guided surgery in detection of liver metastases and treatment planning of two patients with hepatic GIST metastases using indocyanine green.CONCLUSION: NIRF-imaging with ICG is useful for identification of preoperatively discovered lesions, surgical resection planning and margin evaluation, and for detection of additional hepatic GIST metastases.     Intraoperative molecular imaging of colorectal lung metastases with SGM-101:a feasibility study

    Purpose: Metastasectomy is a common treatment option for patients with colorectal lung metastases (CLM). Challenges exist with margin assessment and identification of small nodules, especially during minimally invasive surgery. Intraoperative fluorescence imaging has the potential to overcome these challenges. The aim of this study was to assess feasibility of targeting CLM with the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) specific fluorescent tracer SGM-101. Methods: This was a prospective, open-label feasibility study. The primary outcome was the number of CLM that showed a true positive fluorescence signal with SGM-101. Fluorescence positive signal was defined as a signal-to-background ratio (SBR) ≥ 1.5. A secondary endpoint was the CEA expression in the colorectal lung metastases, assessed with the immunohistochemistry, and scored by the total immunostaining score. Results: Thirteen patients were included in this study. Positive fluorescence signal with in vivo, back table, and closed-field bread loaf imaging was observed in 31%, 45%, and 94% of the tumors respectively. Median SBRs for the three imaging modalities were 1.00 (IQR: 1.00–1.53), 1.45 (IQR: 1.00–1.89), and 4.81 (IQR: 2.70–7.41). All tumor lesions had a maximum total immunostaining score for CEA expression of 12/12. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the potential of fluorescence imaging of CLM with SGM-101. CEA expression was observed in all tumors, and closed-field imaging showed excellent CEA specific targeting of the tracer to the tumor nodules. The full potential of SGM-101 for in vivo detection of the tracer can be achieved with improved minimal invasive imaging systems and optimal patient selection. Trial registration: The study was registered in ClinicalTrial.gov under identifier NCT04737213 at February 2021.</p
