¿Cómo medir la felicidad?

El interés en medir la felicidad es compartido por muchas autoridades, académicos y profesionales comprometidos con mejorar el bienestar no monetario de las personas. Organismos internacionales como la OCDE y la ONU apoyan oficialmente la implementación de mediciones de felicidad y bienestar subjetivo. Chile y otros países como Bután, Francia e Inglaterra han seguido estas recomendaciones e incorporado mediciones de la felicidad en sus censos y encuestas de hogares. La medición de la felicidad es claramente un tema en boga a nivel internacional. En esta Clave para Políticas Públicas queremos apoyar las iniciativas de medición de la felicidad en Chile y otros países entregando recomendaciones basadas en la evidencia acerca de cómo medir la felicidad de forma válida, confiable, eficiente y concordante con los estándares internacionales. Numerous policymakers and scholars share a common interest in measuring happiness. International organizations such as the OECD and the UN officially support the implementation of measures of happiness and subjective well-being. Chile and other countries like Bhutan, France and England have followed these recommendations and incorporated measurements of happiness in their censuses and household surveys. In this policy brief, we provide evidence-based recommendations on how to measure happiness in a way that is valid, reliable, efficient, and consistent with international standards

Rol del odontólogo en el fomento de la lactancia materna. Un Scoping Review

Objective: To determine the importance of the role played by the dentist in the multidisciplinary health team that supports pregnant women, while the specific objective is to systematically review the published evidence related to the influence of breastfeeding on the development of early childhood caries (ECC), alterations in the stomatognathic system and dietary habits of the infant. Material and Methods: A Scoping Review following the international PRISMA protocol based on a PICOT format research question was conducted. The search was carried out in MEDLINE / PubMed, Web of Science, and Ebsco databases. Results: Fourteen studies were included: 3 narrative reviews and 11 systematic reviews (5 included meta-analyses). Conclusion: The first 12 months of breastfeeding would play a fundamental role in preventing ECC and is considered a protective factor until this period. Minors with little or no breastfeeding are associated with a higher risk of suffering from gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases. The decrease or absence of breastfeeding could induce abnormal development of the orofacial cavity in susceptible patients. Given this, the dentist's participation in the multidisciplinary team in charge of education and promotion of breastfeeding is essential.Objetivo: El objetivo general de esta investigación es Determinar la importancia del rol que cumple el odontólogo en el equipo multidisciplinario de salud que apoya a la mujer gestante, mientras que el objetivo específico es revisar sistemáticamente la evidencia publicada relacionada con la influencia de la lactancia materna en cuanto al desarrollo de caries temprana de la infancia (CTI), alteraciones en el sistema estomatognático y hábitos dietéticos del lactante. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un Scoping Review siguiendo el protocolo internacional PRISMA en base a una pregunta de investigación en formato PICOT. La búsqueda se llevó a cabo en las bases de datos de MEDLINE/PubMed, Web of Science y Ebsco.Resultados: Se incluyeron 14 estudios: 3 revisiones narrativas y 11 revisiones sistemáticas (5 incluían metaanálisis). Conclusión: Los primeros 12 meses de lactancia materna jugarían un rol fundamental en la prevención de CTI, considerándose un factor protector hasta este período. Los menores con escasa o nula lactancia materna están asociados a un mayor riesgo de padecer enfermedades gastrointestinales y respiratorias. La disminución o ausencia de la lactancia materna pudiese inducir en un desarrollo anormal de la cavidad orofacial en pacientes susceptibles. Ante esto, resulta fundamental la participación del odontólogo en el equipo multidisciplinario encargado de la educación y fomento de la lactancia materna

Passivity Based Control of a Class of Nonlinear Systems and its Application to the Level Regulation of a Conical Tank

[ES] En este artículo científico se proponen dos estrategias de control basado en pasividad, una adaptable y la otra no adaptable para cierta clase de sistemas no lineales. A diferencia de la estrategia de control no adaptable, la adaptable no hace uso del conocimiento de los valores de los parámetros de la planta. Ambas estrategias son luego diseñadas y aplicadas para la regulación de nivel de un estanque cónico discutiéndose los resultados experimentalmente obtenidos luego de realizar un estudio comparativo experimental para verificar el comportamiento del sistema bajo control y evidenciar las ventajas y desventajas de los controladores. Los resultados muestran que el diseño del APBC es más simple que el diseño de los controladores PBC al no requerir el conocimiento de los parámetros de la planta controlada, también es más robusto frente a variaciones de un parámetro de la planta.[EN] An adaptive  passivity-based  controller  (APBC)  and a non-adaptive  passivity-based  controller  (PBC)  are  proposed  in  this paper. In contrast to PBC, the APBC strategy does not make use of the knowledge of the values of the plant parameters. Both strategies are also designed and applied to the level regulation of a conical tank, discussing the experimental results obtained after performing an experimental comparative study to verify the behavior of the system under control and to demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages of the controllers. ¿Cómo explicar la prosperidad de los países? Tres teorías en disputa y un esbozo de convergencia.

En este artículo se revisan y comparan entre sí tres enfoques teóricos que pretenden explicar la prosperidad de los países. Cada uno de ellos destaca el impacto de una dimensión particular de factores influyentes: geografía, cultura o institucionalidad. Luego de mostrar las compatibilidades e incompatibilidades entre estos enfoques, se propone que ellos son complementarios entre sí, por lo cual debiera avanzarse hacia el desarrollo de una teoría multifactorial de la prosperidad. Dicha teoría, tendría que considerar la influencia de factores contextuales (como la geografía, la cultura o las instituciones) y económicos, además de entender que las distintas dimensiones de factores a) se influencian mutuamente, b) muestran su impacto a escalas temporales diversas y c) tienen efectos en el desarrollo económico a niveles que varían históricament

El panóptico de Bentham y la instrumentalización de los derechos humanos

This paper reviews the foundations of Jeremy Bentham’s utilitarianism and the main criticisms to this doctrine, especially those which deem it incompatible with unconditional respect of human rights. Bentham’s Panopticon, his proposal on prison reform published in the late eighteenth century, is discussed. Based on the analysis of the Panopticon –which is a consistent application of Bentham utilitarianism–, the author concludes that a) this doctrine promotes a humanitarian approach, although b) human rights are not guaranteed, but conditioned to the provided level of collective benefit; and c) Bentham’s utilitarianism questions the universality and irrevocability of human rights.Este artículo revisa los fundamentos del utilitarismo de Jeremy Bentham y las principales críticas a esta doctrina, profundizando en aquella que sostiene su incompatibilidad con el respeto irrestricto de los derechos humanos. Insertándose en esta problemática, analiza una paradigmática propuesta política del filósofo inglés: el panóptico, proyecto arquitectónico formulado por Bentham a finales del siglo XVIII con el fin de reformar el sistema penitenciario europeo. A partir del análisis del Panóptico –que se descubre como una aplicación coherente del utilitarismo benthamiano–, se postula que: a) esta doctrina fomenta un trato humanitario; b) los derechos humanos no quedan garantizados, sino condicionados al grado de beneficio colectivo que generen; c) este utilitarismo supone un cuestionamiento por la universalidad e irrevocabilidad de dichos preceptos

Digital Pathways, Pandemic Trajectories. Using Google Trends to Track Social Responses to COVID-19

We already know which countries have controlled the spread of COVID-19 better and what “good practices” have enabled them to do so. Eventually, some of these policies could be replicated in other countries. But it is not enough to make a well-informed public intervention. We also need quickly available indicators of how actively populations are responding to the virus threat because current changes in social behaviour could mean significant differences in the spread of the COVID-19 in two weeks (after the incubation period). In this article, Pablo Beytía Reyes and Carlos Cruz Infante explore the potential of Google Trends to quickly track social responses to the pandemic. In all the countries that have reached a downward changepoint in the COVID-19 contagion, an “information saturation peak” preceded it: people were massively searching for information on the subject over 2 to 5 days, and about a week after the peak of searches was reached, a decline in the growth trend of coronavirus confirmed cases could be observed. Does it make sense to associate a Google search boom with a decrease in transmission trends? The authors propose that the frequency of searches is a quick indicator of: 1) people’ concerns on the virus, 2) the development of a more informed citizenry on how to avoid transmission and, 3) active social response to the virus spread, which generally lead to a downward change in the contagion trend

Interacciones efectivas : desarrollo del pensamiento en el contexto virtual y presencial

Busca ejemplificar cómo favorecer el desarrollo del pensamiento en el contexto de la educación remota y presencial. Refiere que es necesario incluir la interacción como parte del desempeño docente y porque son efectivas al aportar de manera positiva al aprendizaje y desarrollo.
