Variations of Vibrio Populations in Pacific White Shrimp, \u3ci\u3eLitopenaeus vannamei\u3c/i\u3e, Aquaculture Raceways

Reducing incidence of vibrioses in intensive aquaculture systems is essential to maintaining yields. This study performed real-time qPCR (quantitative polymerase chain reaction) using primers targeting 16s rDNA sequences for total bacteria, the Vibrio genus, and Vibrio parahaemolyticus in aquaculture tanks over the growing season. Total DNA concentrations in each sample were measured with a NanoDrop 2000 Spectrophotometer (Thermo Scientific, Inc. USA). These data were compared to two levels of bio-floc solids removal in addition to physical and chemical tank parameters such as temperature, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and phosphate. The total bacteria gene copy abundances were higher (p = 0.0081) in the low solids tanks but the quantity of Vibrio genus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus DNA copy numbers did not significantly differ between treatments. Regressions performed between the bacterial populations, shrimp specific growth rate (SGR) and nutrient concentrations were found to support the concept that bio-floc in the high solids tanks processes nutrients and suppresses Vibrio populations. Optimizing the quantity of bio-floc is essential for controlling nutrient concentrations in order to select for beneficial bacteria that can improve shrimp health and growth. High nutrient concentrations can stress livestock and promote the incidence of disease causing bacteria and should therefore continue to be monitored and controlled

Si definimos al meme de internet como una pieza gráfica humorística, estaríamos reduciéndolo a una sola característica de un fenómeno aún más grande. Y es que el meme se ha convertido en la forma de expresión elegida por excelencia en las redes sociales. Es por eso que, en este trabajo, interpretaremos al meme como un discurso creativo, cuyo actor creador será capaz de apropiarse de elementos ya existentes para luego adaptarlos, mezclarlos y formar un nuevo discurso caracterizado por un lenguaje humorístico, con estructura de remix y un gran poder de circulación. La propuesta de esta tesina será comprender el proceso de construcción discursiva en formato meme dentro de la comunidad de fans de Game of Thrones Argentina en el año 2019. A Low-pass sequencing approach to phylogenetic analysis: reconstructing Sardinian and European demographic history with a panel of 1200 Y-chromosome samples

Aim: The origins of contemporary populations can be clarified by studying the genetic variation within the male-specific portion of the Y chromosome (MSY). The phylogenesis over this region has been subject of several studies in the past years. In the present study we took advantage of the large scale whole genome sequencing studies we have been carrying on to build a phylogenetic map of Y chromosome with an unprecedented resolution, over which we calculated the putative age for coalescence for our samples. Methods: The study involves 1,204 male samples from Sardinia. A complete variant call on the samples is performed and a statistical approach at a first stage and a second stage hierarchical approach are applied to respectively discard / correct errors and select informative variants. A phylogenetic tree is built and TMRCA calculations are performed. Results: The following haplogroups have been unambiguously detected (A, E, F, G, I, J, K, P, R) over the 1,204 samples and 11,763 informative markers have been discovered, among which 6,751 have not previously been observed. We calibrated the tree with archaeological data and used it to calculate a putative age for coalescence of (190±10)·10^3 years ago. Conclusion: This study shows that Sardinian population carries most of European variability, doubles the number of previously known human phylogenetically informative markers for Y chromosome and provides an estimate for coalescence which is closer to previous mitochondrial DNA estimates than in previous studies on the MSY.</br
